jumper
Apologies for not posting these 6-day-old results sooner.... I downloaded Opera_1210_en_Setup.exe and followed these steps:Used 7-zip to extract all files into E:\Opera_1210_en_SetupSet KernelEx mode on opera.exe to Win2KAdded GetAdaptersAddresses definition to kstub822.ini: [iphlpapi.dll]GetAdaptersAddresses=t5 [*]Confirmed registry had been backed-up that day.[*]Ran opera.exeWhat happened: Opera 12.10 loaded successfully and began to self-install A new profile was created in E:\Opera\Opera_1210_en_Setup:12 folders, 21 empty or stub files, 45KB total (82KB used) After about 30 seconds, Opera hung without displaying a window No error dialog or log file, even after forced terminationSide effects: Opera 10.63 would not work until saved registry was restored System now back to normal After researching GetAdaptersAddresses, I'm not convinced it is really needed for Internet browsing; P2P and VOIP, probably (I don't know what all features/protocols Opera 12 has tried to build-in support for). But I do have a ReactOS-based solution in the works for this function. NOTE: Do not try to use iphlpapi.dll from 2K or XP--that doesn't work!Uxtheme support might have been the real show-stopper for me, but we may already have a solution for it that jds discovered: win2000-uxthemedllConclusions:Use Kexstubs definition for GetAdaptersAddresses instead of replacing iphlpapi.dllUse uxtheme.dll from win2000-uxthemedll.zip instead of KernelEx version@Giant2011: please edit your long posts with tags arounds the debugging text. FF2 has major rendering issues on super-sized pages; plus it makes the thread more browsable! TIA
Windashnet
Hello joe there is a lot of Dutch in the text I am sorry. Maybe you can use this translator: http://www.bing.com/translatorHey I noticed you said Dutch in your post, and I was noticing CRYPT32.DLL errors in that mess you posted, anyway you didn't get a USA version of Opera by any chance? In the old days USA versions would not work in other countries as they had 256 bit DES encryption, which wasn't exportable.Anyway I mention this just to make sure your not trying to fix something that's not broken. Also may I make a suggestion, in the future it would be better for everyone, if you could put that debug mess in an attachment rather than inline. jds
Hello Joe to be certain I downloaded the usb version of oper1 12.10 build 1652 and loaded opera.exe in dependency walker. I got that certcli.dll was missing. I downloaded certcli.dll and copied it in the opera directory and then I started profiling and I got this:......OK, the missing functions I can see from the log are :KERNEL32 : RegisterWaitForSingleObjectEx -> new to 12.10 but provided by kexbasenKERNEL32 : SetProcessDEPolicy -> new to 12.10KERNEL32 : IsTNT -> same for 12.02 (OK, see here)NTDLL : NtSetInformationProcess -> same for 12.02OLE32 : DcomChannelSetHResult -> same for 12.02Hello joe there is a lot of Dutch in the text I am sorry. However, if we suppose that were a problem, that would imply some system DLL's would need upgrading from their 56/64-bit ROW versions to their 128-bit US/Canada versions.Joe.BTW, information on the OLE32 function DcomChannelSetHResult is hard to find, this is the most useful that I did find : http://kdlib.googlecode.com/svn-history/r5/trunk/imports/c/windows/objbase.d Edited November 28, 2012 by jds
schwups
Conclusions:Use Kexstubs definition for GetAdaptersAddresses instead of replacing iphlpapi.dllUse uxtheme.dll from win2000-uxthemedll.zip instead of KernelEx versionHello jumper,if I paste this uxtheme.dll in opera directory ( Opera 12.10 build 1652 portable or USB version ) then it starts without error message and the firewall asks for permission, but Opera doesn't open. It only runs in the background. Replacing uxtheme.dll in the KernelEX folder doesn't effect. There is an improvement for Opera 12.5 builds 1577 and 1581 (GetAdaptersAddresses=t5). These versions now open, but the internal communication error remains. Also see the Kext-topic.
Giant2011
Hello joe. I probably can get a english version off the portable version off opera 12.10 I will download it now and I will do the same again. Most problems have to do with opera.dll and the message: (Failed to load Opera.dll because: a device attached to the system is not working) has to do with it. And with the file iphlpapi.dll !! Probably nothing can be done about it but we can try to do something. Well it does not matter you will see a lot of dutch because I use a dutch version of Windows 98 SE. jds
Giant2011, Please stop posting those huge Dependency Walker logs!!!As jumper has suggested, just enclose the logs in a "spoiler" section (similar to a "quote" section, only the key word is different), see here for an example.Joe. Giant2011
Well it seems I still have a lot to learn. How do put it in a text file here, so one can download it. I will try to figure it out. I have only good intentions I want to help, but t seems I need to know how to post such a file. Yes I have seen links to text files and other files. loblo
Anyone trying to run Opera 12.10 on their 9x systems through Dependency Walker will get exactly the same logs so there is no point posting them at all.

toughcustomer
HELP! Is my lost Opera data really lost?1. Windows 98 Second Edition2. KernelEx 4.523. Opera 10.634. After downloading & installing KernelEx, I clicked on Opera desktop icon on screen. Opera opens, but where is everything?! Lost my tabs, sessions, theme, toolbar settings and buttons. Then I discovered that History (about six months worth) and NOTES(!!!) were gone, Are you an Opera user, btw? Had to reconfigure toolbars & buttons. Had about 25 tabs open, some of which I valued the history of, such as wikipedia, allmusic and amazon. Lost. Bookmarks seem to be ok. But Notes!! I had hundreds of valued quotes, snippets etc.... all gone! Also, all saved passwords were lost. It's the Notes that eats me up the most. Anyhow, is there ANYTHING I can do to recover my Notes. Or my saved sessions that were lost as well? Maybe they are still somewhere to be found. Why did my Notes vanish? I am too overwhelmed to even feel depressed.5. First I downloaded Microsoft Layer for Unicode (MSLU). I wish I had known that KernelEx takes care of that automatically! Didn't know where to put it, so I put it in the C: Windows folder. (Why is the MSLU link even there if KernelEx handles that? It's just going to confuse people.) Then I clicked on Download for KernelEx 4.52. Then opened and installed. Screen flickered and then I clicked on Opera desktop icon. Tabs, skin, toolbar settings gone! Plus the other stuff I soon found missing as described in point 4 above. 6. Opera was working like a champ prior to downloading KernelEx. 7. Disabling had no effect. Seems the damage had been done already. So, I uninstalled KernelEx. I'm guessing the lesson is to never download without backing up browser. Didn't see too many instructions or guidelines anywhere. I realize you're not getting paid for this but...Maybe doing something like this was over my head.... Zollex
KernelEX does not work with the emulator Project64 and the plugin Glide64. Can you do something?
