  1. Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service keeps 2 ports 135 opened (screenshot). I tried XP's tools like WWDC, following registry tweaks, but none helped so far: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Ole] "EnableDCOM"="N" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RpcSs] "ListenOnInternet"="N" Can anyone tell me please, if it is possible to disable it, if yes, then how? Thanks.
  2. Hi, I am looking for some tweaks to make a few settings via registry. I have found most and put them to my reg file and security template. If anyone knows, how to set up following things, please post it in here. -> User Account Picture (location in registry) -> Desktop --> View ---> Classic Icons -> Desktop --> Show Computer Icon -> Desktop --> AutoArrange ~> Explorer ~~> View ~~> List ~~~> Organize ~~~~> Layout ~~~~~> Details ~~~~> Folder And Search Options ~~~~~> View ~~~~~~> Apply To Folders -> Visuall Effects --> Performance ---> Uncheck All ~> Power Options ~~> Change Plan Settings ~~~> Change Advanced Power Settings ~~~~> Additional Settings ~~~~~> Require Password On WakeUp: "No" ~~~~> Hard Disk ~~~~~> Turn Off Hard Disk After: "5 minutes" ~~~~> Power Buttons And Lid ~~~~~> Power Button Action: "Do Nothing" ~~~~~> Start Menu Power Button: "Shut Down" ~> Programs And Features ~~> Turn Windows Features On Or Off ~~~> Uncheck All ~> Sound ~~> Speakers ~~~> Properties ~~~~> Levels ~~~~~> Disable All Except Main and Volume. ~> Taskbar And Start Menu Properties ~~> Notification Area ~~~> Uncheck All (including Hide Inactive Icons) Except Clock -> Internet Explorer (only IE setting, that I have never found) --> History --> By Order Visited Today A few visual effects can be disabled via registry, but most can not. I was never able to disable them all until I found nLite, which could. But I use vLite now and there are not many tweaks yet. Please help.
  3. 1. Protected Mode in IE does not work with UAC disabled. 2. Even as a system admin I still can not do anything I want. 3. Explorer refuses to obey the settings (applied to all folders). 4. Useless services, eg Software Licensing to run Control Panel. 5. As bkraptor posted, it feels like Windows is running really slow. 6. I had to take ownership of all files just to be able to remove them.
  4. Ok, I switched to VMR9 and video works. Thanks. Now, any idea, how to force Vista to play wav files? I use wav to notify me, when I get a message via IM.
  5. He could have done screens with higher resolution, I do not see a difference. If it improves performance, I would not mind to use it, well I would use it anyway.
  6. I finally know, what it does. It allows IE to put files only to TIF (Temporary Internet Files) and if it wants to instal elsewhere, eg activex to Windows folder, it will ask for permission. But "funny" thing, in WinXP I could not disable it and in Vista I can not enable it (screen). I guess due to disabled UAC.
  7. Yeah, you are right, thanks. Finally I can do as many clean instalations as I want. rd /s/q "C:\New Folder" rd /s/q "C:\New Folder (2)" erase "C:\New Text Document.txt"
  8. Awesome, it works now. Thank you for your great help. ECHO Y | RD /s "C:\New Folder" ECHO Y | RD /s "C:\New Folder (2)" ECHO Y | erase C:\File.txt
  9. I changed bat to cmd and it does not work (screen). I wonder, if there is any freeware software, which can remove folders and files like The Avenger does? I do not care, if it is bat or a software as long as it will do its job.
  10. Thanks, but it does not work. Hmm, I have just read, that bat only marks it as removed, so new files can rewrite it, but it is not actually removed. Or maybe Vista just does not handle bat properly.
  11. Thanks for the detail description IcemanND. I tried various command, but it did not work: RD [/S] [/Q] C:\New Folder RD [/S] [/Q] [C:]New Folder RD [/S] [/Q] [C:\New Folder] RD [/S] [/Q] [drive:] C:\New Folder
  12. I folowed tutorial like this one and even simple bat did not work: DELTREE C:\NewFolder DR I would never try to use bat, but removing files one by one take houres.
  13. If you block referrers then download, eg from Softpedia, will not work. Try vLite Homepage or Freeware Files Links.
  14. OK, I will try WMR9 in MPC on Saturday with vLite 0.7. Thanks. Well, I expected more from Vista, but it could have been worse.
  15. Hi, I have removed everything with vLite 0.6 and problem: WMP can not play avi, VLC can play sound but not the video. MPC (K-Lite MegaPack) can not play anything, gives this error: D:\Season 1 Episode - 06 The Cloud.avi::Output Media Type 0: -------------------------- Unknown AM_MEDIA_TYPE: majortype: MEDIATYPE_Stream {E436EB83-524F-11CE-9F53-0020AF0BA770} subtype: MEDIASUBTYPE_Avi {E436EB88-524F-11CE-9F53-0020AF0BA770} formattype: TIME_FORMAT_NONE {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000} bFixedSizeSamples: 1 bTemporalCompression: 0 lSampleSize: 1 cbFormat: 0 Media Type 1: -------------------------- Unknown AM_MEDIA_TYPE: majortype: MEDIATYPE_Stream {E436EB83-524F-11CE-9F53-0020AF0BA770} subtype: TIME_FORMAT_NONE {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000} formattype: TIME_FORMAT_NONE {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000} bFixedSizeSamples: 1 bTemporalCompression: 0 lSampleSize: 1 cbFormat: 0 Now I use normal setup of Vista Ultimate and the video works just fine.
  16. ITsShowtime - choose language - Vista. Those videos might give you some ideas.
  17. I did a clean instal of WinXP about once per week and The Avenger helped me to get rid of files like WMP's network sharing and other junk. An examle from Vista: C:\Users\...\Favorites\Links C:\Users\...\Favorites\Microsoft Websites C:\Windows\Prefetch C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution
  18. Any batch files I have found around, even that one created by the avenger. But it looks, like it just does not like me and it never works, no matter what.
  19. Hi, I have tried to get batch working for months, but nothing was not able to tell, what to do, even Google failed. Then I have found The Avenger and I used that one on XP to remove files, but since I have moved to Vista and that software does not work there, I have the same problem as I had before. I just need to know, how does it work, so I would be able to edit it. If you have any idea, please write it down.
  20. In XP I allways used Windows Explorer, but when I moved to Vista, I was forced to change to Free Commander, because WE in Vista in a nightmare. I could probably used to it, but it even does not remember, when I uncheck Do not remember folders settings or views. Also mentioned permissions for shortcuts are bad idea. I had no problem installing my unsigned driver for the ethernet card. As for the UAC, I disabled it right away, I just could not stand a popup every 10 seconds, if I want to run that or that, because it would slow down my work with registry and system tools by a few houres per month at least.
  21. How to create a file shorcut to my computer's right click menu? I would like to create a shortcut to this file: "C:\Images\Registry.reg\" It is associated with Notepad++ not with MS Notepad: "C:\Program Files\Notepad++\Notepad++.exe" I was able to run exe aplications, but I need to run this one. If you know, how to do it, please write it down. Thanks.
  22. I love it of course, I do not know a better browser than IE.
  23. The problem is, that once it is enabled, it can not be disabled, whetever it works or not, but I rather do not touch it again, since I have no idea what it does.
