  1. Does not your Protected Storage service start up after every startup? Mine does, even when I set it to disabled, it set itself to Manual and starts. I guess, that I could not login to GTalk, because it uses SSL login and I guess, that it just needs Cryptographic Services. Do not know about Protected Storage, but since both those start even when they are disabled, I will rather leave them alone, I do not want to mess up my Windows, 5 setups today were enough for me, I need a break.
  2. I have managed to close ports 49152, 49153 & 49154 with WWDC - disable NetBIOS. But at first I had to disable services, otherwise, it would not apply & ports would be open. 135 listens only locally, it is not really open. It belongs to RPC, I guess, it can not be disabled. I closed all other ports by disabling services, but have no idea, which ports belong to them, sorry.
  3. You are right, I just did another clean instal. Default admin account loaded properly, but allways with annoying message, that User Profile Service is disabled and blablabla, even when I removed other account, so I decided to keep it on. I am just trying to keep Themes disabled, it is a little disgusting to see 32-bit icons in 256-color enviroment and the gain is only about 10 MB RAM and 10 MAB pagefile, but maybe I will get used to it and I like, that I have only 8 services running. At XP I used to have only 4 windows services running and 1 firewall service, oh I miss that so much. I have WMI disabled for months, so far I have not found any aplications, that would need it, except ATI control panel, but I do not access that one daily, just after clean instal to set up a few things and then no more. Yes, I can not access Windows Update like this, but I prefer downloading updates manually anyway. EDIT: I have edited previous post, removing services: Cryptographic Services & Protected Storage did not go well, so I am going to reinstal and I will keep Themes as well, so I will have 12 services at the end. I will just have to learn to live with that.
  4. I wonder, if I would login with default admin, if would I still need that: User Profile Service or not? EDIT: Removing Cryptographic Services & Protected Storage from registry caused, that I can not login via Google Talk, so I have removed the info from this post.
  5. That means, that you sell them, right? Well can you at least tell, what do they do? I mean, I have disabled services, WMI logging and I have not found anything else.
  6. If you have a printer, it is unlikely, that your Vista would fit on CD. Printer drivers take 600 MB and you still would have to remove a lot. I got Ultimate on 680 MB and Home Basic with drivers on 648 MB CD.
  7. Thanks, now I understand why I can not open regedit directly, and so on, cool. Though some info is incorrect, eg about stopping Network Store Interface Service.
  8. I have disabled it via vLite in setup, but there are many ways: Start - Run - msconfig - Tools - Disable UAC - Launch - Reboot. If needed, it can be only partially disabled via security policies: Start - Run - secpol.msc (Ultimate only) - or - mmc (all versions).
  9. I do not recommend to remove Public folder. I have just spent a few houres going through my settings, trying to find out, why I can not instal games like FEAR, NFS Carbon and etc, which reports, that there is not enough space on the HDD. It was due to removed Public folder. Whatever is there, it is important to keep it.
  10. Hmm, Vista's security settings still causes headache to many people. Sorry, can not help you with that. I have disabled UAC and I use 32-bit.
  11. 1. I have downloaded flash from here and it works just fine: http://www.filehippo.com/download_flashplayer_ie 2. You can use HijackThis to fix the msn page to remove it: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Popu...ijackThis.shtml
  12. My startup: 200 MB RAM, My Services (no Manual), My reg file. I forgot to thank the author, thanks man for my PC's performance. It can be done via mmc, but I would not do it, if I were you. Windows will not load (work), if those 4 services are disabled. Though I used to have DCOM service disabled in XP, such a pity: DCOM Server Process Launcher Group Policy Client Plug and Play User Profile Service Sound needs 3 services, oh well: Multimedia Class Scheduler Windows Audio Windows Audio Endpoint Builder Those 2 will allways start when needed, even when disabled: Cryptographic Services Protected Storage By disabling Themes, I would gain only 4 MB, it is not worth of it. BTW, there are some service, which can not be disabled via registry. It can be done via mmc or altering reg permissions (not a good idea). Start - services.msc - look for service you want to disable, eg.: DNS Client's properties - look for Service name: Dnscache, then: In the registry look for "Dnscache" in the services key and you get it.
  13. Yeah I tried those 2, but it did not work. 135 is still open. But since 135 is stealthed from outside, it does not matter.
  14. I do not know, what are those ports related to, but I was able to close them (screen) by disabling services, policies, so I woould not need a firewall. WWDC helped me to close ports: 49152, 49153, 49154 by disabling NetBIOS, strange but it works. As for one 135 (RPC service), it can not be closed, but it only listens locally (screen), so it does not matter. IE uses ports 49150 and above as loopback instead of 1024-5000.
  15. Try other defrag software to see, if it will cause the same problem. Eg freeware soft Auslogics Disk Defrag, I use it instead of MS defrag.
  16. That is strange, since ATI drivers 7.1 supports Radepn 9500 and up. I have Radeon 9600 and I integrated drivers with vLite and they work. Maybe Vista does not have driver for your motherboard, eg CPU to AGP.
  17. Ok, I though, that they are inserted in an alphabet order. I have 7 years old 15'CRT monitor, so no drivers expected. When I installed drivers in Vista (without vLite), monitor turned off & on without restart. When I installed drivers in VistaLite, monitor turned off and on after restart, before login.
  18. Hi, I had this problem, when installing Vista: 1. 3Com unsigned driver asked about 3 times. 2. ATI driver installed and Monitor TURNED OFF. 3. I guess, that Flarion unsigned driver asked, but I did not see it. Monitor was off, the HDD was quite, CD as well, it took about 5 min. When I pressed arrow down and ENTER, HDD started to work again. Would it be possible to instal display driver as the last one? My preset: [Drivers] C:\Users\TheTOM.SK\Desktop\3Com\English\Update\Source\EL2000x.inf C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-1_vista32_dd_ccc_41241_enu\Packages\Drivers\Display\LH_INF\CL_41241.inf C:\Program Files\Flarion Desktop Modem USB Driver\FlrnDTM.inf
  19. Thanks man. BTW, I forgot to check, can ATI drivers be added as well?
  20. Well, it seems, that I really forget too fast. It was caused by those following local policies: Backup files and directories Restore files and directories WinASO RegDefrag did not work on XP without them. So far vLite is the only soft I have, that needs those 2.
  21. Hi, I have many services, local policies disabled and I can not run vlite: Any idea, what is it talking about? I can not find the missing component. I have UAC disabled, run as admin does not help, neither some services. Before running vLite, I ussually do a clean instal, but it takes too much time.
  22. 1. MS will force users to move to Vista anyway, so what to wait for? 2. Improved security (patchguard, GPO policies, divided services). 3. DX10, better memory managment, overall PC's performance. 4. I like IE7, it runs just great on Vista and IE8 will be for Vista. 5. I wonder, if I would move to Vista, if vLite would not exist. 6. Vista's theme without Aero and effects is faster than XP's. But I hate the Start button, which does not fit on the screen.
  23. Hi, I would like to disable all logging to gain some performance. So far I have disabled services like Event Log and WMI logging: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WBEM\CIMOM] "Logging"="0" But there are still log files creating with extensions: evm, etl and log: C:\Windows\inf\setupapi.app.log 516.48 kBytes C:\Windows\System32\config\system.LOG1 256.00 kBytes C:\Windows\System32\LogFiles\Scm\SCM.EVM 128.00 kBytes C:\Windows\System32\LogFiles\Scm\SCM.EVM.1 192.00 kBytes C:\Windows\System32\LogFiles\Scm\SCM.EVM.2 160.00 kBytes C:\Windows\System32\WDI\LogFiles\BootCKCL.etl 7 7.25 MB C:\Windows\System32\WDI\LogFiles\ShutdownCKCL.etl C:\Windows\System32\WDI\LogFiles\WdiContextLog.etl.001 C:\Windows\System32\WDI\LogFiles\WdiContextLog.etl.002 C:\Windows\System32\WDI\LogFiles\WdiContextLog.etl.003
  24. Great job and I though, that CDs are dead, so I should trash them. Can not wait for the next version, with removing of files or drivers support.
  25. I stopped most services (screen), but RPC must not be stop. Well, Shields Up reports port 135 to be stealthed, so it is OK. I just wanted to close it, because I do not use a firewall now. Comodo on Vista works as an aplication monitor (outbound).
