  1. Thanks for the update info nuhi, it is appreciated.
  2. That is right, estimated time make people nervous, especially developers and it could result in mistakes, but on the other hand I would not mind to see something like nLite will be released before 2007. By the way, about WMP 11, I have integrated it and it works fine, so far I miss only IE7 Final, well lets just wait for the nLite Final.
  3. I thought it too, when I started to use IE7, but I got used to it and I like it now.
  4. I gained CPU, RAM and there is no HDD activity (eg from creating countless logs). By the way, I had also disabled DEP and SFC, those can affect performance as well. I am not a high-tech, just a simple user & I see the difference, how aplications work. I do not care about running software, which I would never use and even if I would it is just the matter an one hour. 5 min to backup, 15 minutes to create and burn nLite setup, instal WinXP with other software including settings in 40 minutes. Just for the comparision, clean setup of original WinXP takes 35 minutes and it loads longer (not by 5 seconds). My nLited WinXP setup installs in 9 minutes (with drives) and installing and settings up the rest software takes only about 30 minutes, since I have almost all settings in my reg file and the rest is just in ini files. I prefer portable aplications, because it is faster to extract than to install and it works the same. If you are interested, here are my settings (nLite, registry, manual). 32-bit icons of IE7 and WMP11 looks terrible in the classic theme. It can be, but it will really slow down startup, if not removed with nLite, but I would not recommend it to do it, there can be some software, which needs it, as well as WMI. I do the same about once a week, setting up IP manually is safer anyway. I use this file (reg as well) to enable needed services after startup, because I need to enable NetBIOS as well, without it DHCP service will no start. And there are 3 services, which need to be started too otherwise, network icon will not appear. At the end, I just want to note, that I never recommend my settings to anyone, because every PC can react different, especially based on drivers and software. I just share my settings and let people to "destroy" their WinXP themself. All I say, that it works fine on my PC with my hardware & software, that is all. I will just add, for me WinXP is like a car, which I optimize in order to do, what I want it to do, so the other people might not want to like it, they even may not be able to use it, but I do and that is important for me. It took more than a year to get WinXP work like this and I am still not finished, when I found a new tweak, I apply it. It is just my hobby. I installed WinXP at least 110 times this year (100 times due to nLite to find the proper settings). I install WinXP at least once per month, just to keep it clean, it is like, how often would you clean up your Porsche, si it would shine?

    ie core gone

This is not possible. I was not able to instal IE7 RC1, when I removed IE core. So far, I keep IE core and I remove IE6 only, after clean instalation I instal IE7. By the way removing IE core slows down WinXP noticeable, I wonder, who does it?
  6. I watch this topic since the beginning and it was quite interesting, although it looks, that it is turning into a flame war. I have 1,5 GHz and 1 GB RAM. I know for sure, that my PC is faster after tweaking. Clean instalation of Windows XP loaded more than a minute, after tweaking it took about 20 seconds less and my nLited setup (with many services removed) takes 30 seconds and since pressing the boot switch until loading WinXP it takes about 35-40 seconds. It is also noticable, that PC and other aplication runs more smoothly, eg OpenOffice opens in 5 seconds instead of 10 and so on. My Windows folder has 400 MB and I have 5 services running, I start DCOM service only when some MSI installer needs it and I have no problem whatsoever, IE7 or WMP11 work fine without "so needed" WMI service. In fact my PC is much more safer, so I do not need any windows updates after SP2. Just my 2 cents to this matter.
  7. I set IE to block all cookies except allowed, so "tracking cookies", what is that?!
  8. nLited WinXP already works like a charm, so it is OK. I just hate the WU service, I have it disabled for years. By the way, any idea, which files related to WU service can I remove? I found about 2 MB of files (exe, DLLs), which can be removed manually after instalation (with The Avenger), but if anyone have the list of its files, please post it. Thanks.
  9. I hope, that it will be possible to remove Windows Update service with IE7 integrated.
  10. Great setup LLXX, I envy you your customized porsche. I have 13 processes & 5 services. I do not care, what Fresh Daemon says, I got great performance gain. Thanks Black Viper. BTW, it is not just about performance gain, but about better security too, he misses the point.
  11. I got This Error 3 times, on the first nLite run as soon as the CD has finished copying. Then it never happens again, CD is copied and everything works just fine all the time.
  12. I guess, that when WSH is removed or disabled, then tweaks can not be aplied.
  13. I have AGP 8x card and if I would not import my AGP Filter I would get only AGP 1x.

    Tweak Request

Hi, could you please add this tweak? Remember Each Folder's View Settings.
  15. WinXP Setup - With Merge - Driver.cab only (3,66 MB) -> contains 1314 files, it has also SP1 Security Catalog (415 KB) -> so it is actually the SP1 file, which makes ISO bigger with Merge. WinXP Setup - Without Merge - Driver.cab (199 KB) + SP2.cab (3,98 MB). -> contains 1314 files (only SP2, no SP1 file, like with the Merge Enabled).
  16. I understand, I also want to help, in case, that someone else would have similar problem. I have solved it by disabling it and since it is actually smaller a little, I do not misss it at all. 1. nLite with Merge: service will not start start (screen) - 2. nLite without Merge. Both configurations are the same, just in 1. Merge is Enabled and in 2. Disabled. In fact, ISO with Merge Enabled is a little bigger (Size: with Merge > without Merge). Maybe there is some problem with MD5 hash of those cabs or conflict with some settings.
  17. I did about 50 reinstals in 2 days and I can assure, that it is due to Merge. I was setting up everything one by one, until I have found out this solution. I have no more problem with it, I just do not use the Merge option anymore. I just posted it in here, in case, that someone else would have the same issue.
  18. Hi, sry, that I have not responed sooner, I was a little busy at school. I have found out, that it is related to the Driver cabinets - "Merge" option. "Combine driver.cab with service packs cabs (sp*.cab) into one driver.cab." When "Merge" was enabled, I could not start a few services after instalation. My current nLite configuration works fine without Merge. Thanks for nLite 1.2. By the way, NetBIOS is disabled after instalation. I am only glad, that it is disabled, but NetBIOS is needed for DHCP service, otherwise it will refuse to start (just for the record, if some users would like to know). I enable/disable NetBIOS, when my IP changes with WWDC, after restart NetBIOS is enabled, so I can start DHCP.
  19. Hi, anyone knows, how to start Network Connections after using nLite 1.2 Beta? I have not removed anything (expect fonts, keyboards and win aplications), I disabled tweaks, I reseted Services setup, but I could not get this service to start after instalation, so I was not able to set up IP my conenction, like to set up IP manually. After countless setups, I have returned to previous version 1.0.1, which works fine.
  20. I guess due to this Error, that nLite 1.2 needs "real" NET Framework to be installed?
  21. Thanks for info, I did not know that. Well, since I use tabs, I do not mind, if the page loads in 1 sec or more (this forum loads in 3.4 sec and 1,2 sec if reloaded based on StopWatch). I prefer to disable or block everything with net access, whatever it is.
  22. I agree, every system is different, and what runs fine with me, does not have to run on other PC. I just posted by settings to prove, that Windows can run fine eg without Event Log or WMI services and so on. BTW, it took me about 60 reinstalls just to create my 99 MB ISO with nLite, although windows setup takes only about 8 minutes, it took a few days to get the right configuration, so I see, what do you mean. About DNS Client, yes it can speed up browsing a little, but I used to play online games without it and I had no problems with ping, but again it depends on the internet provider, if he has quality DNS servers (bandwith as well). Since I have it disabled (actually removed with nLite), I do not need windows update for it now (920683) or later, the same apllies for other services or other things in WinXP.
  23. Network Connections along with Remote Access Connection Manager and Telephony are needed, if I would like to get the network icon in taskbar and to be able to edit network settings. But once the settings are properly set up, there is nothing to change. I spared about 10 MB RAM by disabling them. Well, my IP changes sometimes, so I have to enable mentioned services as well as DHCP. I enable NetBIOS via WWDC (without it DHCP will not start), then I use my reg to enable it. After restart I change set up to receive IP, I set IP up manually and restore my reg settings. This procedure takes max 5 minutes & I do not have to do it often, so it is quite comfortable.
  24. I have similar setup like albator. 5 services running, no AV or updates needed. My nLite config, my PC config (reg as well), startup memory, startup processes. I have a rule based firewall with popups disabled, it is like a setting Deny Default. Although, I would not recommend all my settings, just pick up sthg, what you need. System restore should be renamed to Malware restore, just look on some HJT Forums. DNS Client is vulnerable and if ISP provides fast and reliable DNS Servers, speed is OK.
  25. TCPAllowedPorts - UDPAllowedPorts: but I never got this working properly.
