Yes they are links but we can simply put the actual exe's there as well. The only problem would be the helping files like .dll's. So if there exist some programs in D:\ and somehow @GLO got to point the Program Files link to D:\Program folder it should work as well. As far the actual questions stays, search for the string "d:\Program" in your registry. I will also give it a try.

Yes, using offline files is the best thing i have used in this regard. Surely i will give SyncToy a try as well. But there are enough options with offline files to sync your files with server.

Well, Something I learnt after this, is not to use my primary email address for registering on public forums. I was wondering about the best practice. Wether to use a separate email address for each forum Or to use One email address for all the public forums we register on. IMO, one email address should do it for all the forums. Any suggestions? Yup I think it is Trojan. Can u see the files or it is totally gone? Try to set View Option to see hidden files if they are not visible or gone. Use some AntiVirus Software to find any irregular activity.

Once I dowloaded over 300MB of software in RAR format. After writing it on cd it turned into folder. I never got it to work. Niether the CD one Nor one on the hard disk. May be it has to do with some extension's association. It is just a wild guess though. @Blizzardmage1 - Please explain a little more. What OS u are using and weather the stuff (files) are gone or corrupt. What is the path of those files that went corrupt. Are there some files which are fine at any other drive or path?

@LLXX - I will surely give it a try, you are right MSN Messenger uses port 6891 for file transfers. I also read it here http://www.experts-exchange.com/Security/Q_21899381.html that it uses a range 6891 - 6900. So I will give it a try for both cases and come back with results. @TAiN - I want to allow users running msn messenger, but to stop them from receiving any files through it. One of ur link related to ISA server was helpful in finding out the port range used for file transfers. Thanks for ur replies.

I want to block file receiving from MSN Messenger. But to allow downloads through some link on browser. Is there a way? Also can I be a little selective, Like allowing it on some systems and blocking on some others. I am using Wingate Pro 6.0 as proxy in windows 2000 Server. And it will be migrated to win 2003 standard Server.

Sorry for replying late. I hardly had any activity on my computer in last some days. I used Vista Transformation Pack 4 with the option of Longhorn while installation. ObjectDock for top bar. Yahoo Widgets for clock and weather info. XPize for Icons. XPize requires .NET Framework 2.0. And for wallpaper I use www.deviantart.com, there are a lot of fine artists doing hardwork for us. The Order in which i install them is. 1. .NET Framework 2 2. XPIZE 3. Vista Transformation Pack 4 (By installing it after XPIZE, this taskbar overrides the one by XPIZE, no doubt the one with XPIZe is also very good) 4. ObjectDock 5. Yahoo Widgets There are a lot of links and information catagorized beautifuly in Zxian's Guide to Desktop Enhancement Zxian's Guide just go through its first post.

You are saying that Other system cant ping ur XP system and also cant access its shared folders. Can u tell if this XP system can ping other system preferably some windows2000 system. I think this would work. On the Win XP system Open My Computer, In Tools ---> Folder Options VIEW Tab and then scroll to the last option in Advanced Settings named "Use Simple file sharing" uncheck it. Now try to ping this XP system or access it by UNC to see the shared folders. Hope that would help.

I have installed XPize on my WinXP SP2. It has really great and cool effects specially Task bar is outstanding. One thing i want to change though is Windows Boot screen (Light Blue Image screen with an X embossed). Is there a way to change that image with a custom one. Or use the original screen with that progress bar from microsoft while keeping XPize for all other great things. @XPero Thanks for the effort on this software.

I think ivelimirovic has checked SATA drive on some other system as well. Can't say whether he used the same Data cable or not, it may be Data cable for SATA as well.

Earlier I used Dual boot with 98 and XP on it and sometimes 2000 as well. But from last 6 months or so I started using Virtual machine. With VMs, I can play as rough as I want and can always revert back. Without thinking of re-installation and saving data. Certainly with VMs, resources are shared and performace is not at its peak but i can bear that bit performance loss as I dont always use heavy applications. For such applications I use windows 2000 as Host OS and shut down VMs at that time. Sensible!. is it?

Whenever I have encountered Disk I/O errors, it was solved by reconnecting or pressing the data cable connectors otherwise it always looked that physical damage to hard disk sectors has occured. In that case BIOS always show that hard disk. By using it as secondary in other system it showed the drive but did not opened it. U r lucky to still be able to open it. Try copying some files at a time. The files which are on damaged sector will not copy. but secure the other files as early as possible. Now to how can it happen on two Drives at same time using different technology (RAID and SATA in ur case). For me it has near zero probability unless computer was burnt together in fire or hit by a rocket. The probable cause may be it was electrical surge that somehow passed through UPS.

It would help u to open ur winnt.sif and check for its contents and also check wht User Interaction Level u selected. I hope u are not burning CDs, bcz at start there are bound to be some mistakes and it would cost u too much if u are not using some virtual machine with the ISO creation.

For me Win2K Pro is best of the lot offered by M$, not comparing it with others Like Mac or Linux. For its reliability and speed both, it is kind of inbetween to 98 and XP. I think it still is best package offered till now by the Microsoft in areas like stability and reliability. Not all that resource hungry and it Works. I still use Win98, it surely crashes more often than XP and 2000. But when I need more speed like for games and just for routine work, for downloads i prefer it. It still annoys when it doesn't work out with applications that are made for win98 platform. XP is more luxurious without understanding wht is inside. I am anxious to see wht mess Vista will create for resources when its Final version come out. The comparison by Fredledingue abt Oses as cars says it all. I will like to hear abt 2000 more in that comparitive perspective though.

Never heard of this variable. I Tried to figure out but cant find it niether on Web. Can u tell wht it is used for. IF it exists, looks like path to CD/DVD Drive.
