I must admit that my cable experience does come from the knowledge of how 1 company operates, and their sibling companies. So it could be true that other companies or areas are different.

I believe the answer is that you can't boot from the VM Additions ISO. You can mount it but it can only be "installed" from within an existing (virtual) OS. Is this correct? I was confused about this in the past as well, and I had to relearn that lesson too!

Perhaps adding the User accounts that the DCs use? Of course you did add your Domain Controllers into that group right? And are you enforcing known vs. unknown computers?

this is correct. This installs several drivers (mouse, video, shared folders). you can try old shooters like Quake 3 if you want to play them inside a VM. I still play Quake 3 at home...

Seems to be caused by a corrupt template. However, these specific files have language codes in them: 1044 = Norwegian (Bokmål) 1028 = Chinese (Taiwan) Language Code list here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd346950.aspx If you are not servicing any clients or applications that make use of these language, it may be safe to delete or move these files. Are these local policies or are you applying a Domain GP, also if so, what Server are you using?

The attached document does indeed appear to be corrupted, or not a real Word Document. Viewed with Scite it is full of nulls. A normal Word doc shows different information in Scite. Also, it is not a virus, as it does not have any (valid or otherwise) PE headers. OpenOffice Writer shows it to be full of # symbols, but did prompt to convert the file. The default options did not work. I'd say this one is lost.

I don't remember seeing any system requirements for them. Does the new version require Vista and Server 2008? I have it installed on 2003 x32 at the moment, perhaps that is the problem then.

I'm piloting the Windows 7 Beta (Server 2008 and Vista SP1) OPK Tools (similar to WAIK) and have noticed some issues. While using the PE Tools Command Prompt to mount WIMs to mount points, I am seeing a progress indicator while mounting. Also, it takes 10 times as long to mount and unmount a WIM now. Also, the mount point seems to react very slowly, taking a number of minutes to view folder contents. Has anyone else experienced this issue? EDIT: moved to Beta forum. Had brain fart.

Yes you can. During your steps to make an ISO, you get to the point where it says to run OSCDIMG to make your ISO. Well stop right there and copy the contents of the ISO folder onto a hard drive. Those file alone should be able to boot the PE.

Connecting to your network is done in the startnet.cmd. Your basic commands: wpeinit wpeutil initializenetworking (add a ping command here if experiencing hardware delays) net use z: \\server\share password /user:user program.exe There are certain boards that have a timing delay, so in my startnet, I have added a 16 second delay. This is done by running a ping for that time. Then I map my drive letters (I actually map to two different servers), for images and files. Then launch my program. My program is designed to look at certain drive letters for things, in my case, I have hardcoded the Z: into my program. Hope this helps. Also, you can manually map drives if you wish via the command prompt (or launch cmd.exe). I'm not sure about FTP, I don't think that service runs by default.

Salut, Most companies that sell notebooks do not sell them to be gaming machines. The are mostly sold for college students or professionals, so expect that kind of setup. I do not think that you will find much help. As much as we try to follow the rule of software companies, it is true that we wouldn't wish to go against Country rules, or (in most cases) corporate rules.

Yeah, Steam's a no-go either. Because of our system requirements, old games are fine. I'll do some looking on my own also.

Having experienced both industries, here is my 2 cents: - Cable has a higher maximum speed than DSL - DSL has a higher average speed than Cable - While Cable's download speed may be the only thing that is "shared" via the DOCSIS standard, QoS standards employed at the gateways (1st hop) will always scale back that download speed if the upload speed reaches a certain level. - Cable companies are trying to move beyond their means in areas with Fiber competition. Most issues are because the lines on the poles (or underground) are not likely anywhere near new. For example, the cable company in my area does not go around and update the lines. Lines are only replaced if they go down. Unlike their proclamation that they are "high-speed fiber networks" it isn't the entire truth. Only areas serviced by corporate customers (like in downtown of cities or large business districts) are laid out with the FTTH equipment that their commercials state. You would know if they ran fiber because they dig up the streets all over the place. I remember when they put it into my city, but they did not replace the residential lines off their head-ends. So in most areas like the suburbs or residential areas, the lines are still 20+ years old. And also a lot of equipment still follows DOCSIS 1.1 standard, maximum 56MBps share per node. Cable companies are pressured to provide more HD channels onto their network from companies with less limitation, such as satellite or Fiber Optic only (AT&T and Verizon) options. Areas with older equipment won't be able to handle the full HD spectrum and large amounts of internet activity. Its frankly too expensive. And lets not forget, cable is highly succeptable to interference. If your TV signal is not perfect, your internet speed will be slower. And if you opt for their VOIP options, if you lose your TV you lose your phone. Most people have cell phones now so its not a big issue. I use my internet at home and I need to upload files because I am a web developer. So I use DSL because their QoS won't downgrade the upload speed, and the higher average speed means that a queue of files will finish faster than if I was on cable. I have been convinced that Cable is the last place guys now. Their equipment is too expensive to sustain as compared to other telecoms. So bottom line, if you are in a residential area, stick with DSL. If you are getting a corporate account, Cable should be fine.

I've read a lot online that says it is best to install ATI drivers in stand-alone and not using the Catalyst Control Center installer. I have many instructions to install drivers like this. The problem is that I already have the CCC and ATI's software installed. It hasn't really caused me a problem, but I like to keep my processes down. I think that ATI adds about 6 or 7 processes, and a lot of things that aren't really needed. Are there any instructions anywhere to show how to remove the CCC and reinstall the video drivers without it?

You are correct. It seems to work much better in VirtualBox than VPC. Thanks for recommending it. It took me awhile to get the video driver installed, an option under tools called Guest Additionals? It installed a driver, but while OpenGL was now available, the program did not work. The game was a demo and Open GL is only an option in a patch for the full version. By default it supported Direct3D or (true)Glide. So I will use this VM now, but will need to find a different game instead.

This is correct, you need to have the ability of using an OA2 setup. And this ability is not limited simply to the installation media, there is other concerns. If you are a Microsoft Partner, you should be able to get further information from your account rep. You would need access to the OEM channel, or MS Connect/OCE.

Recently I've been trying to get some games to work in Virtual PC or VirtualBox in Windows XP. They are multiplayer capable demos, such as Midtown Madness, Motorcross Madness. They are 7 minute demos but support multiplayer. I also tried Carmageddon 2, but found that I needed Open GL support so I moved to VirtualBox. While the full version of the game supports OpenGL, the demo does not, so I can't launch that game at all. So I am looking for some other driving games that are demos or freeware (or in that free full version because they are crazy old and no one cares) category that supports multiplayer. Midtown Madness gets boring after awhile because the track is so small and you only get 7 minutes. Carmageddon II would have been great but it won't work. I am using a VM because the machine I am running these on is a Server 2003, and I don't want the programs installed on the regular HDD. So any ideas about some games? The other limitation is that it should be less than 100MB if possible.
