Far Cry ended way too fast. It was fun, i like FPS but not good enough to ever play again. I tried playing Albion on DOSBox again. First time in about... umm.. whenever it came out. It was cool but it was too annoying. Next I might play Strife for the third time!

Look in the help file about STARNET.CMD and/or WINPESHL.INI. Both can launch commands. Use one or the other tho. If you have stuff in your startnet.cmd AND winpeshl.ini, it will ignore the CMD and only use the INI file. I have PE images that use either of the options. Basically, use the startnet.cmd if just starting. the winpeshl.ini is best used if you don't want your end users to have access to the command prompt. Also note that startnet.cmd uses standard .Bat syntax, but the INI is a bit different.

@RIAA: yes OT but NASCAP is more for companies to worry about. They have no power over individuals, thats where RIAA takes over. @uptime: IDK how to respond to that. As I've posted before (perhaps elsewhere) my Win98 pc has my record for having a 3 month uptime. I usually have to reboot my XP computer before the 98 PC. Then again, also consider that I don't use my 98 PC as my main PC. It has its roles that it fulfills and thats it. For example, except for an emergency (like XP computer isn't working) my 98 PC does not go on the internet. Or at least with a web browser. I use my 98 PC primarily to be a dedicated server, so yes it does actually access the internet.

Security and System event log issue
Tripredacus replied to Rippie_DK's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
It would be helpful if you could post more than just the event ID number, but what the event description says. There is a lead here, that you are auditing an object: http://www.techsupportforum.com/microsoft-...-event-log.html more info: http://windowsitpro.com/article/articleid/...d-578-logs.html As I have not encountered this before, I recommend further research: http://www.google.com/#hl=en&source=hp...ffa6ff748389786 -

How many of you remember when either XP or 2000 was being advertised? I remember full 2 page spreads of a BSOD in industry magazines, basically saying you won't ever see these again. I used to cut those out and put them all over my cubicle back then! Those were the best adverts ever!

Can an mp3 converted to WAV still contain a virus?
Tripredacus replied to titamarus69's topic in General Discussion
I have worked in the music business myself. What your co-worker said may not make sense, but there are other reasons to not used burned CDs. In my time (3 years) of being in the music biz, I learned that I can only use pressed CDs or prove ownership of originals of backups. This is because NASCAP randomly "trolls" companies that make or play music. Its a best practice that should be followed, if only to CYA. -
This is actually very easy to do. You will kick yourself, I know I did! Open up WDS, and right click on the Boot Images container, and add new image. When you select your file, and hit next, you get to a part where you can change the description/name of the image. Type what you want in there and when its done, hit finish. You will then have two images in Boot Images. When you PXE from a client, it will go to a menu, and the descriptions you typed in will appear as the selections. My test WDS has 4 boot images, so the clients on there see 4 items: Win PE v2.1 (x86) Win PE v3.0 (x64) Vista x86 Setup Server 2008 x64 Setup

HP Notebook: The recovery partition could not be found
Tripredacus replied to ahmad2080's topic in Software Hangout
You may be correct Frankie. My company does not use the current version of the SoftThinks software, but an older ones. All HPs use the newer version, which makes use of the BCD and the MBR. I only have the beta of the current version but I haven't the time to play with it. My company never did sign up to use the newest version yet. With downsizing and all, it makes me do the job I was hired to do! -

Seagate 7200.11 - My Story
Tripredacus replied to Ambilight_Chris's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
It probably wouldn't be a bad fit in this thread: http://www.msfn.org/board/59-t128092.html -
It may be helpful to find out what is on this blue screen it stops at. Configure the computer to not reboot. When you boot using F8, there will be an option that says "Disable automatic restart on system failure" or something like that. Hit that one, then choose to boot into your OS. It should just show you the screen now and not reboot. Tell us what it says on that screen and we may have a better lead for you.

Welcome aboard! I'll move this to the Software Hangout where this topic will get more exposure.

Sysprep removing Video drivers
Tripredacus replied to DarkendViper's topic in Unattended Windows Vista/Server 2008
This happens to me too. I believe in order to keep them in there, you need to put them in the install image. I haven't experimented with it all yet, but this is my only lead. -
Well the RIAA doesn't have this power and won't. Its controlled by NASCAP, but they are bound by US Copyright laws. Anything within the free domain is fair game. I've had to deal with NASCAP in the past, and its just plain annoying. However the main point of using an older OS still comes down to one point. You only really need what can run your apps. There is nothing wrong with using Win 9x at all. Some people do it because they have no need to upgrade. My main upgrading point was always because I wanted to use a certain program and, at the time, it couldn't be run on an older OS. Nowadays, there are many programs and VMs available that allow older programs to run on newer OSes, but at one point those were not available. And you must remember, a lot of the time, people who use Win 9x likely also have other computers using something newer.

Clients will not fail over to secondary dns
Tripredacus replied to sherm's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
I have seen this in action, but honestly at the time, I was not in any position to find out why. When I saw this was when I worked for an ISP and our primary DNS server was down. Not inaccessable mind you, but the DNS portion wasn't working. Secondary DNS did not work on Mac or PC clients. I'd also like to know what causes this, just for my own knowledge. PS: I wanted to add that the environment was totally different. My belief was that it was a standard or protocol issue. Since my company used SunOS/Solaris (DHCP, DNS) and Cisco (Routing) for all networking systems. -
If you are referring to HotStart, then you may need a BIOS update, or else your notebook may not even support it at all. Otherwise, try lookup up keyboard re-mappers and see if some give you that option. I had to do such a thing in order to assign a function to the F15 key (Mac keyboard on PC) for a game I had tried. I remember those programs I had tried (many did not have the function i needed) they had a ton of other options. I do not have any left saved so I can't give you any examples.

I agree with the shell idea as well. You may want to put a button on your program that can launch the command prompt just for support reasons.

Ah good! One less thing to say then.
