Heroes of Might and Magic V! Now that I am using a PC at home with no video card, I was having problems finding a game to play. I only have integrated graphics, which is 256MB Intel controller. Heroes V did not work until I installed DirectX 9, which is odd I have DirectX 11 you'd think a 9 game would work out of the box. Well it seems to work ok.

Some questions from me, probably not an answer but maybe it triggers something... 1. Do both servers have private IP addresses? For example, I am thinking that your Cable Modem gets a Public IP, then the router gets an IP from the modem. 2. Are you using either the router or modem in Bridge mode? I do not know if the modem supports this or if Optimum has locked this feature. I am thinking that you cannot RDP into both machines at once because they use the same port. Did you try changing the port used for RDP on the second machine?

Mounting/Unmounting images too slow?
Tripredacus replied to wolf2005's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
Ohhhh you were using GImageX to do your mounting. I've only use DISM but I heard that "Tool" thing is pretty neat. -
Hmm maybe the problem is you are using Imagex to do your mount and unmount? Why aren't you using DISM for everything?

First, nLite threads go into the nLite forum. Second, list all of the files you currently have on the floppy disk.

Most problems with Windows are usually present longer than you'd expect. Things do not typically "just happen" out of nowhere. Your first place to look for clues would be in the Event Viewer.

You are recommitting the Ultimate WIM back into the full source. Why not try to export the Ultimate WIM first, then make your changes, then export it again. But I am wondering why you are trying to make the WIM smaller...

Next time, ask for a move before crossposting.

You will need to take the install.wim (and possibly boot.wim) from the install DVD, and modify them with the Windows 7 WAIK. You can inject the drivers using DISM: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd744355%28WS.10%29.aspx You will then need to rebuild a new DVD using those new files. Moving this topic to Windows 7 unattend forum.

Mounting/Unmounting images too slow?
Tripredacus replied to wolf2005's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
Yes it is a lot slower. I do my mounting/unmounting using the server (imagex.WDS.local) in the "My Servers" link in my sig. A Win7 image takes about 1 minute to mount and about 2 minutes to save and unmount. I've just learned to live with it. -
Cygwin eth0 eth1 node name for dhcpd

You may have missed those words at the top of the forum with the big red letters. Moving to Networking forum. -
This is up on the front page as well: http://www.msfn.org/news_story/microsoft_announces_hardware_accelerated_html5.html I tried it out here: http://ie.microsoft.com/testdrive/Default.html This only will install on Vista and higher, so no XP! It is definately interesting what they are doing with the DOM and CSS3, but the SVG stuff is way old. Perhaps the only difference is that it has built in SVG support without having to use the Adobe SVG Plugin. Not all of the demo worked for me. I encountered a script error on the bubbles graphic demo. However I then scored 57600 on the SVG-Roids game!

Please post the OS you are using. 2008 or 2008R2?
-
You are going to want to look at Local Security Policies for this. I had done some research in the past on how to make some prompts go away, but you may try researching them to see how to use them in your favor. Here are some keywords to get you started: CheckEXESignature RunInvalidSignature HighRiskFileTypes LowRiskFileTypes

So you are using a Linux PXE server? I have no experience in that, only with Server 2003 and 2008. I am sure people who do know Linux OS will probably ask you what version of Linux you are using, and any other versions of things you used to start it up. Oops! This is a cross-post! Do not crosspost, thanks.

Ha ha Eagle, it was in the documentation! However, I also did it wrong the first time too before I found it.

Hmmm... I don't know, I know plenty of people who make mistakes that haven't tried anything new.

The "Dr. Guard" program was the key. This is from the new strain of fake antivirus/antimalware programs. Some are smart, some are stupid. Most work extremely well (what they were designed to do that is) on XP, but not so much on Vista or 7. #1 thing, these programs use registry settings to block your programs. The first variation would only use the Image Execution Options lists. Renaming the installer and EXE bypassed this. The second wave would terminate programs that tried to open/modify/delete the files it used/needed. This even included Notepad or in some cases even explorer.exe. In these cases, if renaming does not work, only WinPE or NTFSDOS are your saviours. Then after you remove "part" of the problem, can you run Gmer or MBAM (still renamed to be safe) to remove some more. Yet you described something on 7, which so far I have not encountered a problem removing. Rest assured, these programs are a lot easier to remove from Vista or 7 than XP. Also, never forget about using cacls (or xcacls) to change the ACLs on files you need, or files you don't want running. Denying SYSTEM access to files is often a great way to disable these programs.

The results of those tests might also depend on the network and the server's capabilities. My server's TFTP speed is less than 10 seconds, I'd like to say 6 seconds but I haven't timed it, just a guess.

You have a syntax error. Try this: [LAUNCHAPPS] x:\windows\system32\startnet.cmd x:\windows\system32\wpeinit.exe, "/unattend=X:\Windows\Displaychange.xml" x:\windows\system32\cmd.exe Notice the quotes I added. winpeshl requires quotes after the comma. g-force is right to start you on the PID route, because there is no garauntee that the Windows on the notebook is the one it came with. Your COA sticker on the notebook itself might be enough for you to find out, but at least you have other things to learn about. If you are able to boot into the OS, you can tell if its the originally loaded OS by looking at the Properties of My Computer. OEM/System Builder companies are required to include their name, product name, company logo and/or support information on that screen. The first thing you need to do is figure out the shape of the sticker. If it is a rectangle, then we're talking about OEM pre-loaded software, whereas the best bet is to acquire a recovery CD. If it is a weird bulbous looking sticker, you should be able to use OEM/DSP install CD. If there is a sticker on the notebook, its not likely a retail copy, but as noted before, there is no garauntee its the same version it was loaded with. Here is a pictoral guide to the different types of COA stickers: http://www.microsoft.com/howtotell/content.aspx?pg=coa&displaylang=en
