  1. Well as far as I know, the Network Location setting is just for the network the PC will be on when installed. If you disconnect that and move to another network, it is going to prompt you again. For some reason I feel like this question was asked before but I can't remember where.
  2. Its still better than Windows 95 or Windows NT with 100 programs installed.
  3. Is that a scale with a ladybug on it?
  4. Well actually, it doesn't matter. XP has ceased support in the channel almost a year ago now!
  5. There are a bunch of programs that do this, but they are typically frowned upon by people who run web servers. In other words, they don't want people to use programs like that to access their site.
  6. I've heard you can do it in R2. I tried this in 2008 but it did not work properly. Here was my thread for Vista: I tried to do it with one boot.wim, but it would work a lot better with multiple boot.wim and install.wim maybe. I got off that project because I found a better way to do Vista and Windows 7 that does not use unattends.
  7. I sure hope we get a servicing option for 7. I'd really hate to rebuild all our images.
  8. Thanks for pointing that out. I will check into this.
  9. We could use some more info, such as details of the error message, or anything relating to it in Event Viewer.
  10. Ooops old nLite topic floating around?
  11. I'm going to presume the following: 1. You have x86 Windows 7 2. You have a Sound Blaster Live! 5.1. As noted, Creative's site is confusing to say the least. For example, on the Win7 compatibility chart: http://support.creative.com/KB/showarticle.aspx?sid=61105&h=13 You will not find your sound card, but then again mine isn't on there either. There may be a couple options for you still. Remember, the Creative software likely won't let you control the surround sound, but the Windows sound options will once you get the driver installed. This one looks like it might work. http://support.creative.com/Downloads/searchdownloads.aspx?filename=SB24_PCDRV_LB_1_04_0090.exe
  12. That is one method, but you can also use PEIMG to put the drivers in the boot WIM. Remember, the PE is actually an operating system, and you can service it (ie install packages, programs and drivers) when it is offline/not booted. If you end up having a lot of different drivers to load, it may reduce boot time. As far as XP images go, it depends on your licensing. You can sysprep the images before capture OR you may just be able to run the SID Changer on the machine instead. You'd have to test which option is best for you because sometimes SID Changer can break some account related functions like Task Scheduler and IIS for example. I create XP images (not too much anymore) and keep hardware specific images just to be safe from possible problems. My control criteria for XP images are the motherboard, video card (if no onboard video), HAL, Service Pack and BIOS version. Lastly, I hope your Broadcom drivers work, some Broadcom NICs do not work in WinPE.
  13. I've never used BitLocker yet, but still haven't seen multiples like that. I'd be interested to know if you find out more about it.
  14. Welcome to the MSFN!
  15. The best thing is to just not post anymore. Log out and delete the MSFN cookies and its like you aren't here anymore.
  16. What's up with that picture?
  17. I don't think it is available in a large size. One of the other mods had made a custom logo that we never used, and I'm sure that was a large size. I'll have to see if I can track it down.
  18. LOL....awesome how you cant update Vista images with WAIK 7. They should have made them universal. I complained about it to my MS rep, and they forwarded the request along. Hopefully an update comes out to handle it.
  19. It is possible to corrupt a WIM. I've certainly done it before. Try to use imagex to export a the WIM out, it may fix some of these problems. Have you tried say, deleting a file in one of those places, then look to see if the file still exists in the "duplicate" location?
  20. A few things, 1. Make sure you are using DISM from the Windows PE Tools Command Prompt, and not the regular command prompt. 2. make sure you have full control permissions on the directory your MOUNT folder is in, as well as the location of the WIM file you mounted. 3. Make sure to run the prompt in #1 as Administrator. It looks like you are running this on Vista right?
  21. I am wondering where you got this ISO from or how you created it.
  22. What do you mean "before MS took it over"? Some research was done at the time of this project (now abandoned): http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=5308&hl= jaclaz I remember finding a draft about the WIM format awhile back and it wasn't a Microsoft document. I'll try searching for it tomorrow, I might still have it.
  23. This seems to be a good topic, so I pinned it for now! B)
  24. I believe the earlier WIM related whitepapers spoke of using this format for archival purposes. Somehow now people only use it for Windows! Its a great system because of how it indexes files. Its basically an incremental zip file. Of course you don't have any version control, and easy to replace a file by accident. Limited features provided by Imagex or DISM, I wonder if there are any tools from before Microsoft took it over?
  25. I'd certainly hope so!
