listing all folder contents, in a text file
prathapml replied to prathapml's topic in Windows Tips 'n' Tweaks
Yeah, must have forgot.... Anyways, this is for a different purpose. Plus its meant to be usable straightaway without 3rd party tools, so PrintFolder outside the purview of this. And since this is meant to be used in a scripted unattend, a REG for right-click is also outside purview. -
Hmmm.... For bad topics/replies there already is a "report" button at the bottom left of each post, placed exactly for the sake of members who'd like to help the mods weed out the bad posts.

To an extent, this info is generally true:Your initial 5 digits indicate product (visio) & edition (std, pro, etc) & version (2000). The next 3 digits indicate the channel of purchase. For example, the 270 shows that its a VLK (or corp.). The other possibilities are oem, retail, upgrade. The rest of the numbers are related to the product key - keeps changing with every individual key entered, so cant make any generalised observations. The above is specifically for office 2000 & windows 2000. The PID pattern changes, for previous/newer products. If you need to know about any of the others, do feel free to ask. Hoping this helps....

Yes, the online link to article is working now.... But the descriptions of screenshots is mixed up with a different linux article!

Well, personally, one solution that I have found, is to do this: first enable cleartype. Then go to display properties >> advanced >> Monitor >> 120 DPI.

Its pretty good... But not that interesting to most ppl. I just used it for 3 days & then removed it. This one falls in that uncomfortable gap between "basic" and "power-users". I am fine with windowsFirewall's own interface in SP2, and for anything more, would prefer a more powerful firewall than SP2's own.

the next time you want to make a list of files in a folder, just go to that folder in a command prompt. Then run this command: dir /B /S >> file-list.txt -OR- tree /F /A >> file-list.txtThat will make a new file in that folder containing a list of all files.

Well... The incompatible-with-each-other problems were supposedly only till the betas. The plan was to have 2.0 compatible with 1.1 But we wouldn't know for sure till we actually see what happens.

Right here. On days when I am online, I look at every single post that gets posted. In all forums. And regarding the old posts, yes, I look into those sometimes. Like, a year ago, I could claim to have seen almost every post since 2002. But nowadays I just see whatever is from timeframe = today.

Hi spring. Welcome aboard msfn forums! As said above, this is a technical topic that needs to have been posted in the right section. Anyways, you did not lose anything. What you did with the svcpack was right - you dont need any of those, SP2 already has all that.

The difference here, probably, is that the person who CHOOSES to eat junk-food, drink coca-cola, not exercise, etc., has taken the decision himself, consciously, and owns responsibility for it. Whereas breathing second hand smoke, does not fall in that category, since the individual did not suddenly decide that for some strange reason, today he wants to breathe the smoke of somebody else.

On my MoBo, the SAME prob that you describe kept happening - and right from day1!!!! I've tracked the error to the RAID drivers. I've given up on that, and just stay without RAID now.

uTorrent is much better - ONLY prob is no DHT support.Otherwise its great. Check out the comments for yourself - http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=56578

Age of Empires 3 is rocking, now where's the cheats?
prathapml replied to prathapml's topic in Gamers Hangout
Darn, AoE3 always seems to not quit properly. Need to end-task it everytime, else see task manager lose count of 300 MB of memory .... Anyways, here i am, back with a few fun strategies for you all! The next 2 are for skirmishes against the game AI (not campaign), and applies to ALL versions of the game: 1. Behaving barbaric is satisfying, for the barbarian, and frustrating to the person you are playing against. This is the "rush" strategy - assemble a sizeable military right in the beginning, and attack your enemy. But it could also be suicidal as you lose valuable resource-gathering time. 2. Another way to irritate your opponent - at the time you go to attack, try as much as possible, to focus on the villagers & houses & town-center - destroy/kill only these units. Easy way to subdue an enemy without losing out too many units, right? The result is that your enemy may attack you, but he is already badly crippled. Why? Because no villagers/settlers remain, to BUILD new buildings. And lack of houses will diminish his population limit to almost zero. So now he will have to carefully think twice before attacking you, as whatever military units & buildings he currently has, is all thats left. In other words, he will just quietly keep away from you, while YOU improve your town, or while you are engaged with fighting another player. This THIRD strategy is fantastic fun! 3. In AoE3, start a skirmish (deathmatch) against computer AI. Have yourself alone on team1, and 3 other AI players on team2. Set the skill level to max (expert). Now, as soon as game begins, concentrate on building walls around your town-center, with a bit of space left for buildings. Also leave a gap in the wall, because that way enemy soldiers try to get through that - otherwise they try to break the wall all over. Thats it, now press enter & type "tuck tuck tuck" to get a killer car. Position it at the wall-opening. Now you're ready for the FLOOD. Enter the cheat-code "speed always wins", and enjoy..... What happens? Nothing, just a few thousands of enemy soldiers & cavalry & cannons try to take over your territory (the "speed" thingie allows all players to produce any number of units instantly, without the normal waiting/building time). You keep making more cars & try to fight them off - the fight is on a MASSIVE epic scale! -
Adobe Acrobat Reader 7 Lite - 5 MB Only!
prathapml replied to [deXter]'s topic in Application Installs
@Zxian: That rings a bell. Prolly the MSI has something linked into the setup. As in, install app & delete the installer MSI = error, otherwise if MSI was left in place it ran fine for first time. I remember when RyanVM made an install package & it gave the SAME error. Do test it some more, so that we can have conclusive results -
suryad: dude, some ppl re-install their OS on the same PC, every morning! So "too many times" is a relative term, and bashing them is not in list of best things to do. BigDaddy & JasonGW: Like simonsays has already said twice, activation/cracking discussion is NOT allowed on here. Period. Others: Take a look at the topic title before posting. The first-poster wanted a decent OS that can run games, and that DOESNT use activation. Seeing a majority of posts that dont even take notice of that, is exasperating! Either dont post irrelevant matter, -OR- Get back on topic.

Thats for the reason that ringfinger has said. -
Why the multi-posting of topics across sections? Merging with the other one.

More memory is not that much of a differentiator. Anyways, nVidia is quite the way to go - solid overall. ATi is rather off-and-on. A GeForce 6600GT would be about the 100-pound mark today, and a decent buy.
