  1. If your requirements aren't really as high as to need all those paid services, you might like to see http://anonymizer.com. Direct browser to site protection.
  2. See the first few posts... There's a surplus of that really, you are having links to pre-hacked and cabbed files, which you can simply drop into your I386 folder on CD. Yes, sure....See the detailed page here - TCPIP.SYS patching.
  3. Pretty ancient one, on UseNet. FYI, In those days of extremes of friendly and heated flaming and discussion, the joke above was quite a real depiction of the order of things. Just ask the old-timers.
  4. You mean to ask "tell it in its original form" ? Or do you mean to say you want to see the source which proves what I said? Just look through the archives of UseNet discussions - this one keeps coming up rather frequently! And this funny has made its rounds on the "Humour" section of most forums on the Internet. Or just PM ropera to ask for the source of this joke....
  5. Cool! Thanks for voting - this goes out to the rest of you as well.....
  6. Yes. Make that entire install folder compressed into an SFX archive which silently extracts to "%SystemDrive%\install\Applications\" folder from CD. The next command after that can be to run "%SystemDrive%\install\Applications\SAV\whatever.msi /whatever". Easy, and at the end of the process, the space SAV occupies on your CD is reduced from its original size.
  7. Yes, that's where it is. But it sets the screen-res to 800x600 by default, and then asks you for permission if that was okay with you (if non-automated). If you had set the display settings in winnt.sif, (as above) it will automatically set the res. without prompting. Now, there's a third point of problem, where the desired res. won't be set, and you'll login at 640x480 - that's when windows can't find the drivers for your display. So, if your display drivers are integrated (OEMpnpDrvrsPath method), and you used all of the below entries, and you're sure your hardware can take the display setting you have specified in winnt.sif, you'll see it (screen resize) being done automatically without any prompting. [Display] XResolution=1024 YResolution=768 BitsPerPel=16 VRefresh=60 AutoConfirm=1 ConfigureAtLogon=1
  8. Maybe I didn't explain clearly. Basically, Opera can't/won't take settings from the %AllUsersProfile% folder. It only takes from "%appdata%\Opera" which translates to "%UserProfile%\Application Data\Opera". So, considering that whatever you put in "Default User" folder will get propagated to all new users created later, I execute an SFX at T-12 which extracts itself to %UserProfile% (at the time of T-12, it is "Default User" who's logged on). So now, those settings are inherited by all profiles, and that too - leaving the original files in "%ProgramFiles%\Opera75" folder intact. So if you now want to reset your Opera's settings, all you need to do, is to delete "%appdata%\Opera" of whichever user is logged-on. Now its more clear?
  9. ......and one to say that this one's a classic that's refused to die, ever since it was first posted on UseNet, years/decade ago.
  10. Ah, no way - no way at all.
  11. I do all my config ops to opera, during T-12 - all manipulations are done to the "default user" profile - so any new user inherits the pre-sets.
  12. Thanx for filling in on what I missed out - sometimes one makes too many assumptions about what is implied...... and assumptions, as you all know, is never good.
  13. YES! That's what/why we've all been excited about, since the 6th of August. Its official - use it on all the (XP) machines you manage (are in charge of).
  14. Hmm.... Yes, all of us have different requirements and priorities, which determines whether something is right or not. Thanks for your perspective on this, GM - it always helps to look at something from varying angles.
  15. Now there, that was a setting I wasn't aware of previously. Any further info on that? or pointers to where I can read up about it? Are you sure that value works fine in a plain install (doesn't need SysPrep or something)?
  16. Well, your wish is granted. [Arabic added] - for all Arabian peninsular regions.
  17. All of those have been discussed many times over in this *ENORMOUS* thread. Please try searching.
  18. Me neither. And I seem to be in a majority over this!
  19. did you even *TRY* searching for the topic? ZA unattend config.xml import
  20. Ha ha ha.... A pretty old joke, but it still manages to bring out the laughs.
  21. Yes, it sets right the CRC in the header for tcpip.sys as well - and for any other file you might use it for. You'll get links to already modified/CRC-modified tcpip.sy_ in this thread, so that you don't need to spend time re-doing what many others have done before you.
  22. Maybe you didn't search hard enough? There was a link to the offline PDF version on the first page of the guide itself: http://unattended.msfn.org/ Look under the "Latest Site Updates" section. Have fun! And do feel free to post back on how your uA install CD creation went...
  23. Looks like a good try for new "website-wannabes". I'll check out this interesting development later on today.... Do keep coming up with such good things.
  24. Yup! right about that, in a way. We do get a kick of adrenaline doing what was told to us as "couldn't be done". Just had to mention, if anyone gets a bad experience with XP Plus! Pack, upgrade to a GeForce2 or higher class of cards (extremely cheap nowadays), and you'll see what people are raving about when they say it is FANTASTIC. Just an aside - personally, I just ran XP Plus! for 2 days, then removed it - too much eye candy, didn't like it that much - slows down everything (so I suppose that's the reason you don't want it as well).
  25. You're right about that. Go here, and make yourself a 2-in-1 optimized CD - guide Now (after making that), you can pop your CD into the drive, and choose whether to load unattended install (no repair install offered) or to load normal install (repair-install is offered, just like before). The installing of recovery console (your original issue) won't end up giving you multiple options everytime your system boots up. It will add itself to the "Startup Options". You can press F8, and choose to run "Recovery Console" just like you use "Safe Mode" - that option won't even show itself and isn't accessible to anybody, except for you, who knows that such an option exists.
