  1. occir, more details would be needed. Are you trying to install SP2 alone to already existing Windows XP PCs? In that case, alanoll's post above is the one to look up to. Are you having SP2 merged into your Windows XP CD, and doing fresh (format and re-install) roll-out? In that case, you can use a winnt.sif setting (much simpler, and avoids headaches of upgrading to SP2 as well).
  2. Hello occir, Welcome to MSFN forums. Reading through the forums, will get you started. And always remember the search button, before posting.
  3. Please see the "Registry Tweaks" topic, which is pinned in this forum. It has the answers you want. The search button is your friend...
  4. No, this specific key was probably locked in to the SP1 version alone. Moreover, those action pack keys can only be used to activate 5 times or so. More than that, the keys are effectively junk. And hey.... why these many new posts regarding non-working keys with SP2.... Go to this page - http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechn...oy/wpadepl.mspx Microsoft offers some keys, and requires an implicit agreement on your part - read that page for details. @Dr_Jeff If I understand right, you only use the action pack keys for the sake of having to use a key. Once the install is over, and all other required things are done, the key you used is not of concern to you, since you SysPrep the machine. Is that so? Well, in that case - visit the page linked to above, to get 14-day trial keys. Hoping this helps.... As for your other keys which are supposed to work, but don't - well, only MS can answer it.
  5. Well, I use/like neither of the two here... so no vote! Reget Deluxe Download manager, any day. It has all the features found elsewhere, and more - in a light package that "just works" (no pun intended ). As for the given options, DAP was a favourite at one time (years ago, in its v4 and v5 avatars). v7 is simply too "perceptible" - a download manager is supposed to function in an out-of-the-way manner (atleast according to me). FlashGet never really offered anything more than reget (all that was special, was referrer cookie ability for those who do warez downloads, and reget is not deficient on that count), so never needed it. BTW, astalavista, no need to make us "see red", lol. Please put that first-post back to normal colour.
  6. @mirza Some searching would have helped. This thread has exactly what you want - in the first-post by gosh - http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?act=ST&f=70&t=9453
  7. If you are anyway going to re-format your c:\ drive, you might as well, merge SP2 into your XP CD, and have a perfect installation done. Follow one of these guides to update your Windows XP install-source. (to install integrated with SP2 by default - saves on time, and gives you peace-of-mind) The D-I-Y guide --OR-- detailed D-I-Y guide --OR-- Universal Windows Slipstreaming and Bootable CD Guide.
  8. No, no...This topic exists for precisely that purpose - requesting and contributing new registry tweaks. As for making thunderbird the default mail-client, that information is already on the forum, searching would have given you this thread: mozilla thunderbird as default mail client That's what you need to use.
  9. Is the download corrupted? Because there's no official channel for getting it, unless you're a beta tester, and a beta tester can well ask questions in MS news groups. Try re-downloading. It works perfectly fine, out here. What service pack level do you have installed?
  10. GM knows best... Until then, some speculation could be - is your "WIN51IP" file in place?
  11. Hi anpho, Welcome to MSFN forums. Yes, the folder/location where the driver files are going to be after being copied to hard-disk. Yes, with the necessary switches (like "/S", "/silent", etc.). And also, if you are only beginning with this, don't use RunOnceEx. Stick with batch-files (start.cmd method), which will be simpler to understand! No.Most apps have silent install switches. But some don't. If you don't specify any switch, the application will proceed in the normal way (that is, waiting for you you to click "next", "finish" etc. and then move on to the next install). Hoping this helps... BTW, reading MSFN's official unattended WinXP guide carefully will in most cases, answer your questions. Link - unattended.msfn.org For whatever is not clear there, we in the forums are available here to help.
  12. Is your setup.iss CREATED and placed in that folder?
  13. hey, the question is missing from post.... the topic-head isn't enough... Anyways, how to prevent the "Import settings/bookmarks from other browser" is what you want to know? 1. Configure it by editing the .JS preferences file in the firefox installed folder. -- OR -- 2. Copy the "%UserProfile%\Application Data\Firefox" to your new installation. It will retain your settings, etc. and not prompt for that dialog box again.
  14. @Diabolical,No probs, you can stick with runonce if you don't like the other methods. The docu for RunOnceEX method says it all.... You can't use (") quotes in the command that you run. If you DO want quotes, you need to pre-fix a back-slash (that is : " = \"). As an example, your corrected code (the corrected line alone) would be: REG ADD %KEY%\050 /V 2 /D "for %%i in *.xpi do \"%PROGRAMFILES%\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe\" -install-global-extension \"%DVDROM%\Applications\Firefox\xpi\%%i.xpi\""/f(all of the above is one line, though the page-rendering is breaking it to 3 lines; and yes, you read it right, the double-double quotes at the end of the line, since the command wasn't closed without that) That should (hopefully) work. Do tell how it goes.
  15. Or maybe wants to be prompted NOT for key, but for all other things... dunno... posts having clearer phrasing would certainly help...
  16. Voted for yes. The XML creator is a good idea (which you were torn between doing and not doing since the beginning!).
  17. Yes, the debug command-line (Shift+F10) is a good option - but newbies won't know of it, and then they may also mess up the setup with using that and bad commands. The game, on the other hand, is to make newbies feel comfortable.
  18. Powerhouse is right. Since the clear notice on the post that it is only for reference, and that people should only use the tweaks that they can understand - isn't working... Here's a new proposal:Is anyone willing to put in ALL the cautionary things that are to be taken care of, while applying every tweak in there, and keep submitting updated versions of it, along with new releases of new tweaks (or when new things to be careful of come to light)? That would be good. ('Coz the hours its taking here just to sort them is a handful, lol) Please take the focus of this thread away from the starter regtweaks posted in first-post - that set was just a cross-over from the part1 thread (not by me either, it was just posted there for everybody's benefit). We gotta move on from that point!
  19. Hello, And welcome to MSFN forums! Indeed lots of info to learn and share here.
  20. Latest update on this: Second shocker - IPB 2.0 series (or any version, for that matter) seems to be not free anymore, not even a trial. Completely paid! And Matt Mecham was saying all along that Invision will not make it such that there's no free avenues to use IPB!
  21. VMware! (if its simply floppy for confirmation testing)
  22. Thank you zivan. Are you sure this is the one to be used? (I can't confirm till 3 days later when I visit the place ) @crahak Yes, I absolutely need it. But zivan has already given the info I needed, I suppose - if you can confirm it, it'd be great. Yes, noticed it after you said it.... dunno why they've done it. Matt Mecham kept saying all along that 2.0 will be available for free too. Of course.... I was lucky enough to have downloaded the 2.0 final legitimately - in the short interval between release and making it pay-only.
  23. it happens with SP1 and SP0 as well. Why, even win2k (from SP0 to SP4) does it! rest easy - its normal.
  24. - me!I'm hard-pressed enough with 6, as it is. English being the life-saver, since its pretty much the main language used everywhere, so being a bit tardy with the other languages is okay. But a SEVENTH language, which I gotta know PROPERLY? noooo....
  25. Have you tried re-installing WMP ? (9 or 10, whichever version you have currently) If nothing else, the codec-pack available somewhere on this forum _could_ help.
