Turns out I added 9 zeros instead of 6! Anyways, 57 GB of storage every morning and evening sounds like not a bad "collateral damage" ain't it?

@Cartoonite If you keep doing a few pre-defined operations (like installing your game, or copying saved files over to your new install) everytime, for that particular PC, having a batch-file plugin run from elsewhere on the hard-disk might be a good idea. Check it out and tell what you think.

I think froogle is not in beta, since it is offered from the main site. It is "Froogle Wireless" that is in beta (listed on the labs page).

Oh, was that idea present on that page? I did not fully read it..... Anyways, the idea of it being stored on the sender's server is fantastic! Might instantly stop spam - considering that a person sending out a 4 KB spam (unlikely, considering images are larger) message to 15 million e-mail IDs (yes, its normal in spammer-world to operate on such a scale) would require approximately..... *calculates* OMG.... would require 55.8 TeraBytes of storage. And this, when he sends out *EVERYTIME* - which translates to morning and evening (or more frequent). That would mean either the spammer should delete the old mail before sending out new ones, or keeps buying storage. Both of which is good news for us. And in any case, the spammer would get shut out by the ISP, since more likely than not, its the ISP's server that is sending mail. Wow, spammers get killed with that idea. Fantastic! I love it... I love it...

Thanks. Where exactly do I add, and what exactly to be added?

@Mchart You are referring to the PID that is seen in System Properties. Shotgun is referring to the actual key instead. @Shotgun It can be worked out. Check your PM.

Position of icons/fields on logon screen
prathapml replied to register2search?'s topic in LogonUI & Boot Screens
Are you looking for LogonStudio ? -
This one's going to be a future issue, so I thought I'd ask it now itself. Well, actually it can even be a more general question about any board. What I basically want to know, is this: On IPB2, if you open the "My Assistant" pop-up from forum-toolbar, and then use the link to "Today's top 10 posters" - there is no totaling at the bottom of the list. Whereas, normally on v1.3 (as on this site currently) - you get an overall total for the day (mentioning the number of posts that all members have together made). Why is this, and can it be fixed by some setting in ACP ?

Wanna know what's cooking at google? Visit the company's Labs site, which showcases Google features that "aren't quite ready for prime time," according to a message on the site. You might already know of the above, but then many of us did not - so enjoy the share! And tell us what you found interesting there, or any other thoughts that came to your mind while you saw what they are researching.

Unattended Website Additions

Yet another suggestion.... In the section (of the guide) about slip-streaming, can you please have 2 levels of skill ? (like the office 2k3/XP has) One level of skill for the beginner, that uses nLite to narrate the process, like the present "Universal guide for slip-streaming". Another "advanced" level, that leads you through the process of manually integrating SP2 into XP. Reasons why nLite method should not be the only recommended method. That same topic would also tell you about a small mis-link in the guide, too. Moreover, its almost the same number of steps to do slip-streaming manually, as it is to do via nLite. As for a non-newbie, he'd far prefer not using third-party tools. Now, for a person who has copied his XP CD to HD for automation, its not unreasonable to expect that he should know how to do the slip-streaming too, by himself. One of the most happy moments, I think, are when you do things yourself - and you have control over it when doing so. I don't know why the previous slip-streaming guide (manual process) was discarded in favour of forcibly using .NET-based nLite. No offense to the tool here - I'm a big-time fan of it actually - but give an alternative (which happens to be the original way). I'd like to see a slip-stream guide like Paul Thurrott's. Incidentally, he's not patented the method (sarcastic) - its certainly public knowledge. So having the same thing modified (with credits, if so desired) and put in the guide should not cause any problems. -
.NET framework
prathapml replied to army20's topic in Programming (C++, Delphi, VB/VBS, CMD/batch, etc.)
WHOA!!! Thanks for noticing that. It will be corrected. No, you should not need to have the entire SDK (106 MB). The runtimes (23 MB) is all you need. -
Heh, if one would like to define having leisure time (or being free of work) as a vacation/holiday, then I have none. And I like it, since free-time translates to nothing brought-in. Oh well.... it don't matter, since half your life is forced busyness, and the other half (old age) forced leisure, lol.

Do you have Christmas/winter holidays, and when does it start? When does it end? So that we can all know how long these holidays are normally, across the globe. Happy christmas and new year!

retrieve password from an SQL db
prathapml replied to prathapml's topic in Server - Side Help (IIS, Apache, etc.)
Thank you for the insight zivan56. I have one more question as well: When I register at a phpBB2 board, the e-mail validation message sent to me would contain my username and password in clear text. Any idea on how that works, or whether it has any implications that the password is readable by anybody else (other than me) ? Happy christmas holidays! -
Nope. Mine's working perfectly fine with windows messenger, and with MSN msg v7 as well. Tried other identities?

How can you silently create a restore point ? Sometimes it becomes necessary when servicing a system (or before deploying something major through group policy). The below code is the one to do it: 'Unattended System Restore Point 'sysrestorepoint.vbs Set sr = getobject("winmgmts:\\.\root\default:Systemrestore") msg = "New Restore Point successfully created." & vbCR msg = msg & "It is listed as: " & vbCR msg = msg & "Automatic Restore Point " & Date & " " & TimeHoping this helps somebody out there.

Installing All/or part of Plus! DME
prathapml replied to trm96's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Try %systemdrive%\install\apps\DME\setup.exe TRANSFORMS=dme.mst /qnOr if that doesn't work, use the MSI file, like below: msiexec /i %systemdrive%\install\apps\DME\filename.MSI TRANSFORMS=dme.mst /qn -
Is a registry flag. Pretty simple, not very difficult to solve. Will post later, about which exact key it is. If you find it first, do post it.
-
I've also seen some apps/games look in the registry, for the windows version/build. And if it finds a version number of the svr2k3, it declines to install. So you can try changing version temporarily to install and run that app alone. (I don't remember which key it is, as of now)

Unattended Website Additions
prathapml replied to Alanoll's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
@Alanoll You ABSOLUTELY gotta include this suggestion in the guide. On the page where you talk about winnt.sif: 1. Have a small para about not saving your uA answer file as "winnt.sif.txt" 2. Another sentence saying that unless you have OEMpreinstall set to yes, your $OEM$ folder will not be copied over. These two ghosts of ambiguous words in the guide, have dogged us for long enough. -
winnt.sif.txt not working
prathapml replied to millington_lee's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
It seems the key has been removed now. BTW, millington_lee, please read point-12 in rules - give a topic title that describes what you want to be helped with. (otherwise everyone might just skip what you have posted) As for your problem, the reason why your uA stuff is not working, is simple enough. Please take a look at what you have named your file - winnt.sif.txt whereas it is supposed to be named as "winnt.sif" (you have an extra extension). -
Oh, it sure does. Thanks for the clarification.
-
Yes, it seems. Some time ago, there was a post that described how to modify the MSI to allow for slip-streaming. Try a search.
