  1. I think the got rid of all the type 2 updates. All the new hotfixes use /q /n /z, with the exception of one.
  2. I already tried, it made no difference. It still has to be installed in RunOnceEx
  3. I am installing Windows Media Player 10 in svcpack.inf successfully until this month's updates were released. I had a similar problem with KB911565 and I had to install that in RunOnceEx, but I never had a problem with Windows Update. It always reported it as installed. I guess I have to move Media Player 10 into RunOnceEx
  4. Anyone have problems with Media Player 10? After I added the new updates, my Unattended CD now has a pop up window at T13 warning me that System Restore is turned off and to cancel my Media Player 10 install until I turn System Restore back on. I am installing Media Player 10 in SVCPack. Any suggestions? Should I move it to RunOnce?
  5. Seems correct to me, the only thing I can think of is the actual user name. Is there a space or special characters, maybe you should use quotes.
  6. Does anyone know how to create this hidden partition? I think it would be a great idea if you can get it to work. The service partition has to be hidden and FAT32
  7. I like to set my wall paper to none, do you think this would work? [HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop] "Wallpaper"=""
  8. They eventually release a roll up package which contains several updates over a period of time and it will usually eliminate the clutter in your Add / Remove Programs. It will be listed as one update.
  9. You linked the same file twice Here is the proper link for KB890830 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&DisplayLang=en Yes If another hotfix replaced an existing one, you no longer need that hotfix. The reason why it still appears on your add / remove list is because the installer added it to the registry so you can remove it, when the new hotfix was installed, it did not update the registry to reflect that it has since replaced that file. So to answer your question, you do not need to install outdated hotfixes. Doing so would just make it redundant.
  10. Just went thru the list from the first post and these hotfixes should be removed KB896727 KB899588 KB885626 None of the above are required as other hotfixes have replaced them
  11. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...122120121120120 According to Microsoft, it is included with XP, but I still add it to the end of my updates.
  12. Yes it is for SP2 hu ? It doesn't exist. Sorry, typo, it should read KB873333
  13. Here are the confirmed hotfixes New KB896688 Replaces KB896727 New KB900725 Replaces KB893086 New KB902400 Replaces KB873333, KB894391 New KB905749 Replaces KB899588 These are still unknown (if they replace anything) KB899589 KB905414 KB904706 KB901017 KB890830 Is an update to a current hotfix.
  14. No it will not make a difference as long as the CDs are the same type. There are basically three types for XP Home OEM Retail Manufacturing So, you will not be able to move files from OEM CDs to Retail CDs. But it is okay if it you are moving from Retail to Retail. This only applies to certain files. Most files can be moved between types. I am pretty sure that most of the astetic stuff can be moved.
  15. It is easier than that. First you need two files. WPA.DBL and WPA.BAK. Both are found in \Windows\System32 Place these files on the CD in the following location \$OEM$\$$\System32 Make sure you have OEMPreinstall=Yes set in your winnt.sif
  16. Try looking in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu
  17. I just looked at your Winnt.sif file again and it seems okay to me, except for the point I made earlier. You mentioned that you already have it in the \i386\winnt.sif, so that is not the problem. The only thing I can think of is the extension is incorrect because Windows hides extensions for know file types, but since you attached it with a .txt, I assume, you know what you are doing. Can you outline briefly the steps you took to make your CD.
  18. I know, but if you read that guide you will realize that you can use a batch file and just insert a copy or move command to copy the files. You can also tell it to extract to a specific directory. There is no need to actually execute or install anything. When creating the file, subsitute your batch file in lieu of the installer and you will accomplish what you want.
  19. This is the definitive guide http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=39048
  20. I would look at the keyboard. Press the CAPS Lock key and see if the light comes on. If it does, then look for a process that is running on your system. If it doesn't. Then change the keyboard. Actually, just change the keyboard first and see if that solves the problem.
  21. Thanks for looking that up. Didn't occur to me that I needed to add additional registry entries.
  22. Specifies whether to install a desktop background on the computer desktop. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I have mine set to off and I still get the Bliss (Default) wall paper when my XP starts for the first time, I have tried registry tweaks and still no go. But all the other items in my Components section work.
  23. QChain is just used to ensure that the latest file is present. So if you install an older hotfix, it will not over write the newer file on the system. As Cartoonite mentioned, it is already integrated into XP SP2
