  1. Coding a simple disk-imager is quite easy, less than 200 lines of Asm. (To duplicate e.g. primary HDD to secondary HDD). Basically a sector-by-sector copier. Ghost does moar, like compression and has more options.
  2. It's *supposed* to make software harder to crack.
  3. Host from your own machine if your connection has fast upload and large bandwidth available.
  4. Release IP, change MAC, then renew IP. That should give you a new IP address on most ISPs that don't lock MAC addresses to accounts.
  5. Run Prime95 for a few hours and watch the temperature.
  6. In BIOS options there should be something similar to USB Legacy Devices option which should be Enabled. This allows USB peripherals to be detected as standard PS/2 keyboard and mice.
  7. Keep running the CPU heater and see if the temp stabilises or continues upward. 50°C is still within the normal range.
  8. Is it a valid ISO? Use an ISO manipulation tool (like WinISO) to open it to see if the directory structure and the files are all intact.
  9. Virtualised hardware is slower than real hardware, so your virtual CPU is probably running at much less than 2GHz. Interesting. By using the onboard RAID controller I'm assuming that ESDI_506.PDR was *not* used, but either way, this counters "Hard disks and other media that are larger than 32 gigabytes (GB) in size are not supported in any version of Windows 95". I'll release that soon. It's quite a bit different from the other 4.10.222* series so it'll take more time.I haven't begun to do anything with the Win95 drivers yet. We need to determine if disks over 32Gb are supported first.
  10. See other thread (link in my sig).

  12. Scandisk the hard drive (do a full surface scan). IFSMGR is the file system driver. The HDD may be failing.
  13. It's not supposed to be used as-is, it's just a minimal system on which to build upon.
  14. It's mostly a user-experience improvement, it just "feels" better somehow.
  15. Run MemTest86+ for a few hours. Strange install problems are commonly caused by failing hardware.
  16. That already looks like a standard tech-support response to me...
  17. Have any of you actually *tried* to install Win95 on an HDD >32Gb? I don't believe anything M$ say until I've tested it myself or read through the code. Micro$oft claim that Windows 98 First Edition also has this problem but it can be fixed with an updated ESDI_506.PDR (.2186 I think...). The problem is described as only occurring on Phoenix BIOSae using BitShift translation. My interpretation is that Windows 95 (OSR2) *will* work on an HDD > 32Gb provided the BIOS is not Phoenix nor is it using BitShift translation.
  18. Look at the Internet Properties dialog, go to Advanced tab, scroll down to "Play Animations" and make sure it's checked.
  19. I've done this before, putting the heatsinks on hard drives and also using the fan from the PSU to cool them. Much cheaper than a special "hard drive cooler". I have a reasonable guess as to what happened - over time, vibration cracked the solder due to fatigue and caused the pins to slowly make their way out of the hole. The PSU won't turn on without a load attached. Connect an old hard drive or two to it. Then For a new PSU, I recommend an Antec or Enermax.
  20. I think this is more of a driver issue, as both using the PS/2 port *and* a different mouse cause the same result.
  21. @Petr, qazaq : Excellent. @the_guy : It seems the 4.00.1119 I had was actually a 4.00.1116 I doubt the 32Gb limit exists in the driver. Perhaps someone should install Windows 95B (w. FAT32) on a 40Gb HDD or similar. One could also try using the patched 4.10.2186 driver (intended for 98fe). From http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/bios/sizeGB30-c.html : Also, there are various references stating that "the FAT must be less than or equal in size to 16MB minus 64KB", i.e. 4MB minus 16KB clusters. Would it be possible to use a 120GB partition with a cluster size of 1 sector (512 bytes)? I have a lot of small files which 32K clusters would waste much space. However the FAT would then be approximately 900MB.
  22. Proxies shouldn't cache P2P traffic, since caching wouldn't really improve performance at all, unlike repeatedly viewed webpages.
  23. Google for "solid state disks" and you'll find relevant information. Most of them are quite expensive though, and intended for server use.
  24. No! Floppy disk subsystem is completely separate from ATA subsystem. You need a 34-pin ribbon cable. There should be a matching connector on the mobo. Impossible. I can even count 34 pins in your blurry picture. It's not an LS120 drive (which *does* have 40 pins and plugs into IDE ports).
  25. Same here. Anything below 60° is fine.
