    Charmap Wanted

If I want something back (say charmap.exe) that was FDV and HFCLEANUP removed, I should be able to bring it back by- modify Fred's TXTSETUP.SIF and LAYOUT.INF for file and dependencies (charmap.exe and getuname.dll) remove all instances of the files in the reducers What am I missing? charmap.ex_ and getuname.dl_ get copied over to SOURCESS and the SIF and INF files above have my changes but charmap.exe doesn't end up installing. Probably missing something simple. Let me know if I need HFNETCHK etc on this.
  3. Didn't try this anyway but I did take TommyP's modified inf and substitued %10% for %SYSROOT%. Seemed to work on my system.
  4. No link for the http://www.vorck.com/hfcleanup_2kextra.zip

    FlyakiteOSX

All my programs are bought or free. Just trying to improve the install and look of 2k. I suppose if Msoft were too concerned they could post here.

    FlyakiteOSX

My 3 year old just asked- Cute. So it is an XP thing not for W2k. Not really legal to mod a W2k system with XP skinning files either. On a side note, how far have we delved into illegal gray with hfslip? I checked out http://www.themexp.org/listings.php?type=icon&view=date and there are 587 of these icon sets. Would you bring me to speed? Can XPize use these? I am really liking flipping desktop themes since TommyP hooked me up with bbLean; it would be nice to change up icons once in a while. I know if I had endless hours I could play with everything but... Folk in this forum are well experienced and it is appreciated.

Just thought I would post this since many are looking for alternate themes/looks/icons for W2k, XP. I am not sure really what it is 'cause I just stumbled on it but it seems to give a Mac look to XP. If anyone is familiar with it let me know. I don't want to waste too much time on it if it is unusable. http://osx.portraitofakite.com/
  9. Forward/host it up, thanks.
  10. @ Electrician Not sure if you have already but, could you let Bugs Bunny know of any errors so that he can update the files that he provides. I am still using his original method. Sorry, but I kind of like to see what is happening (outside of an executable).
  11. Ok, you got me, this is what I really look like.
  12. Since this is silly anyways, my 3 year old wants to add in some happy faces. BTW, she says we need some green happy faces. Let's get on that guys
  13. I'll catch up with you guys, say 11 - 11:30. When ever I roll out of bed.
  14. Kramy Are you back or still more interested in the USP system hack method?I was recently told by FDV that with respect to problems- Ok, so it was for a completely different situation but system hacks (that no one else is using) might also lead to this. I guess I am also asking if there is any other interest in this method either than myself?
  15. It's ok, I get that a lot. Let me rephrase... So, when it is time for you to reinstall, you go back to the oem sp4 and repeat the fix, tweaks and add-on files, expert files etc in the many directories of HFSLIP? Is it a bad idea to take the I386 folder from my last FDV disk and just HFSLIP the one latest "replaces" fix? Will this catch up to me after a dozen of these? I can't go and delete them (as you did from the HF folder) after they have been hfslipped. Edit- Sorry, just realized that I went full-on off topic.
  16. Meant like Windows2000-KBxxx. I am happy with the way it works here. I always keep a record of the hotfixes I am using each time I burn a new disk. Easy to add a few for the next time (as they show up). Just thought that the icon hacks were a cool idea and wasn't sure if they only work for GM's SP. Is it a bad idea to HFSLIP hotfixes as they arrive... I mean- if I have a fairly up-to-date FDV W2K install CD and a new HF shows up and I have 50 cents and a couple of hours to kill just re-slip the one fix into HF? Or, after awhile, the defunct (old, superceded) HFs will start to bloat my system? Or, do the new files completely replace the old? Names don't change to protect the innocent.
  17. Does the USP5.x update interfere with the FDV fileset? Don't Tomcat76 files do the same? With USP slipstreamed do we need any of the files in the HF folder? I suppose we must keep wmfdist.exe. Funny that the original purpose of HFSLIP was that HF folder. X2K beta out soon. TommyP, saw your post on Kramy's link. Will X2K need to be incorporated into HFSLIP or will the FIX folder do for all?

    Stop it…

Yikes, you are right. But I was thinking of another even yet, HFSVPK.

    Stop it…

My personal .inf files still go in HFSPACK though, right?
  20. So, how is the shopping in Nanaimo? ... errrr ... oops
  21. Been visiting the mainland, but now I am back. Also added myself. The only thing now is Bill G's mafia will know where to find us!

    W2k vs Xp

Ok, hfslip with fdv fileset already in - no windows explorer, a few most common tweaks, sp4 and a (hehe) frontend gui with a few buttons to search for the original Windows CD location for i386 and the directory where the individual has downloaded the recommended replacement apps. Just a thought

    W2k vs Xp

Is it time yet for hfslip to go mainstream. Could a good, short tutorial with no choices (ie less to screw up) be written for the general masses? I find that my system is less vulnerable to attacks with the FDV fileset and the latest fixes. What a way to combat viruses by cleaning up Windows. Provide a generic system with replacements (dirms, win32pad, myuninst, mpui, etc) and the latest hotfixes. No codecs, reductions or drivers. Drivers, codecs can be installed after like most people do. Just a thought.

    W2k vs Xp

Thanks guys. I'll keep working at the last 2 probs. Maybe I'll sell Xp and buy myself a nice new toothbrush or something.

    W2k vs Xp

This is from today. Still not sure if I am going to flame or not. You know I did try Linux way back when Slack was still a 7. I still have this nasty wireless notification problem that I still can't track down (FDV files). And every time I reboot, I lose keyboard and touchpad (stock for W2k but not Xp). Now Mac. is changing their cpu. It won't be long until our 'wipe the harddrive is the only fix' viruses will mutate and jump ship. Ranting. If there is anything one can do to screw an operating system, I have accidently done it. But that simple Slack system just kept going no matter what I did or removed. I think I have a few disks around.
