  1. don't use ie6 nor wmp 9/10/11 i like office 2007 but its not really compatible with older versions even though a document is saved in doc instead of docx. this year i've had billions of problems. I write lab reports on my computer with word 2007 with doc format. set margins etc printable borders etc. i save it to my flash take it to school do some adding. and all the margins gets messed up. do all this with 2003 and no problems at all. and some other minor reasons..
  2. well xp is ages old and u've been using it. I don't get bsod on xp. sometimes driver issues end up with bsod, thats it. i've used vlite and stopped services tweaks etc... anyways ms will force us to use vista, so probably i'll have to switch to vista in a year or so..
  3. microsoft should pay $9.99 for everyone...
  4. sorry but i don't see why i should switch from a fast os to a slow one. I don't use much of newer components in vista. only thing i liked about it is that in services u can choose to delay some services so they don't start at start-up... not playing games, so i don't care about dx10. copying file from hdd 1 to hdd 2 is a lot slower than xp. one of my printer is not supported. the os just came and everyone's talking about an sp1. how convinient is that? i don't see how this vista better for newbies. even changing your wallpaper takes more clicks that b4. vista sidebar? hate it. ie7 wmp11 don't use.. office 2007.. hate the toolbars.. etc...
  5. I hope ms works on another windows soon [better one prefered ], sticking to my xp, hoping everyone will do the same..
  6. this easily could be due to a cd copy error. if u have another source copy the file from there. did you skip and continue the install? if so did u encounter other errors? and about the i386 folder. It always exists in XP cd's. it contains the core files. that AMD64 file is because of 64bit but the rest has been there for ages including i386 folder...
  7. just in time thanks again nuhi, thanks for not forgetting XP
  8. lol this should be in funny farm stupid symantec, why not test it first deleted files hmmm how do they come back if the computer doesn't even boot up, way to go norton. loving every minute with nod32 maybe symantec is bored and wants to install viruses of its own haha
  9. this isn't really a 64 bit hp driver in the cd. u can grab 64 bit drivers here http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwar...030〈=en
  10. what will be the benefit of using media player in 64bits? i've 64 bits as well and i don't bother with it simple because media player doesn't need 64bit to run smoothly.. just install media player classic anyways or VLC
  11. yes it is stopping me from viewing/installing the updates. second one loads, it searches for updates and ie freezes..
  12. hi there since i dunno when, everytime i open windows update, click on custom or express, and then click on anything after it searches for the updates, another windows update appears in the right frame, look at the attached picture. i was using ie6, now i thought maybe microsoft wanted people to switch to ie7, so i installed ie7 and nothing changed. anyone have any idea as to why i've this bug? my xp is legit... but nlited. thanks
  13. well i don't care about the savegames nor config files. i've ripped my games into iso's mdf's and cue/bin files in order to save the cd's. old games are scratched and i had saved them to iso's. and now i made 20 dvd's and put them into the shelf which they won't be scratched anymore.. and i've billions of patches, updates tricks cheats etc for the games that i wanted to save..they are stored as well. and yes i've even made my custom installers with installshield. for example i've an installer for generals with zero hour addon with patches updates maps etc. which has my settings registry keys and whatnot. this was mainly for LAN gaming usage. because my retard friends, when it comes to applying patches are really retards, so i had to do this and its essential if u don't want to use the cd/dvd's. for some reason i don't like just copying over the directories. maybe because i like spending time and making things look more professional... i've installers for couple of other games as well. they took a while to succesfully build them but hey i've got it all covered. and yes if i have games that do really bore me i trash them as well. the one's i backed up are mostly multiplayer games with lots of fun for example counter strike for back in those days.. quake..etc etc..
  14. well my title probably wasn't explanatory enough. but hey anyways i asked, now i'll answer solution to my problem was solved with this little program called sizeme http://lars.werner.no/wordpress/?page_id=2 it tooks seconds to sort out my problem. good luck...
  15. i'd definetly add http://www.sysinternals.com 's software along this list. it was acquired by microsoft not long ago. i use autoruns, process explorer tcpview etc. etc.. pretty good software!!
  16. i've been using odin pro, its a pay software and it's the best one imho. its for professional use. http://www.omegatron.nl/ it looks at the patterns and has many algorithms to see if there is a duplicate. say u have 1024x768 wallpaper and u also have the same image at 1600x1200, odin pro detects that!! while others i believe cannot do that.. its pretty accurate and saved lots of mb's on my computer if u're looking for a cheaper solution of course there are. u can use checksum checking programs. filesize/filename.. ace utilities is also not bad.. ow odin also finds 2 files even if they're compressed differently and their files size are different so same jpeg image compressed at say 80% quality and another at %40 quality. odin finds that!!! 1 rare piece of software that i bought!
  17. hi there i'm looking for a software which can backup my stuff to dvd's. its easy right? nope i want to put 50gb's of stuff to multiple dvd's and would like to use the least amount of dvd's. so i want from this software to choose certain files so that 1 sided dvd will be filled as much as it could be. to be exact i'm backing up my games, since i'm not playing any of them anymore. but i definetly don't want to trash them i've put everything into their own folder: say alien vs predator 1 alien vs predator 2 Battlefield 1942 Command and Conquer - Red Alert 1 Command and Conquer - Red Alert 2 etc etc... is there a suitable software for a this lazy guy thanks
  18. btw there are useless video files on a full install which take up a lot of space..
