File modified date problem in makecab.exe 5.1.2600.5512
PROBLEMCHYLD replied to Explorer09's topic in HFSLIP
MAKECAB.EXE 5.1.2600.1106 XP SP1 Doesn't have this bug either. I will add this update to Win98 SP3. The make cab from WinXP SP3 has better compression than all the older versions of MAKECAB.EXE. But it has the date/time stamp bug. It also has better compression over CABARC.EXE. -
IE 5.5 SP2 files has greater stability over IE 6.0 SP1 files. There are faster and uses less resources. After testing both sets of files for many many months, IE 5.5 takes it by a long shot. I use to think newer was always better, but in some cases it is and in some its not. This is one of those cases. You can always test both sets of files and come up with your own conclusion. I will be removing Power Management Trouble Shooter since the same exact version is on the Win98 cd. These files don't need to be added since everyone who installs Win98 have access. If files are the exact same version as on the cd I will either remove if present or not add them at all. I wish I had known this 9 months ago.
-
Well', I removed it because its already on the Win98 CD.D:\Drivers\Scard There no need to add it as an option if everyone already have access to it. And its the same exact version, so there is no gain in having it.
-
I got 3.3 down to 53.9 MB after removing IE6 core files and smart card components.
-
This was a while back when I had 3 versions of SP. I combined them all into one package and made it all optional. If you right click the file, got to properties, you will see the updated version. I have been doing this since the final release of 3.0. Things are easier now that I'm not updating 3 packages. Because anyone who uses the core files shouldn't be using IE. We had members in the past report problems with this issue. You can't install Office with out IE. I though the bug only applied to Outlook 2002 is why I added it back. I probably will remove IE6 core files because IE5 core files are more stable and solid. It also will shave off approximately 4mb and some change. If you don't plan on using IE as browser, then IE5 cores is the best solution IMO. I will also be removing the Smart Card option because the exact same file is present on the Win98 CD. Location is D:\Drivers\Scard Lately I have been releasing an update once a month. If I am aware of an issue I will fix it asap. Have you tried downloading lately? The website was down due to moving to a new server.

It wasn't aimed @ you.

WHENEVER A NEW UPDATE IS AVAILABLE, THE TEXT ON MSFN IS UPDATED. THE DATE IS UPDATED. THE TEXT ON THE MAIN WEBSITE IS UPDATED. THE TEXT IN MY SIGNATURE IS UPDATED. THE VERSION NUMBER IS UPDATED. WTF MORE DO YOU WANT? AS FRED SAID ITS BEEN ABOUT 58 (MB) FOR A VERY LONG TIME. SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM. READ THE FUCI<!NG CHANGELOG! YOU WANT ME TO ACCOMMODATE YOU MORE THAN I ALREADY HAVE. THEN PLEASE DON'T USE SP. I'M NOT GOING TO LOSE ANY SLEEP SINCE YOU DON'T CARE.

This person isn't complaining about SP messing up his/her system, but complaining about me not adding the exact filesize. Some people have way toooo much time on their hands. I've tried my best to ignore it. You got to admit though, this $h!+ is funny . I'm sorry, but it is. Please don't encourage my negative behavior
-
You mean, how its in big red bold letters on the homepage and the size is 58 (MB)Unofficial Windows 98 Second Edition Service Pack 3.2 I'm not sure what you are asking. I think is everything is fine the way it is. When a new update is release, then the headline becomes Unofficial Windows 98 Second Edition Service Pack 3.3 When you download updates from Microsoft, do you ask them for the exact size of their files?

Some newer files you guys can test. I will test them sometime this week. GDIPLUS.DLL 5.2.6002.22791 MSSTDFMT.DLL 6.1.98.16 RICHED20.DLL 5.40.11.2221

Thats sounds great
-
Instead of adding all these stubs, why not just update KernelEX altogether
-
I don't use the sleek version of 98lite. So I would assume SP 3.x versions doesn't support this option. I'll make note of this. Thanks for testing. I might be able to fix this. I'll give it a shot.

Edit: Misinformation

Maybe this can help, I know its for the Win98 shell32.dll but it may be possible for the WinME shell by finding the right offset. I don't know how to hex but I'm in the process of learning atm.

OLEAUT32.DLL 2.40.4522 Windows 2000 SP4 works with no problems on my system. I think maybe you should try it out.I haven't had any apps break or any popup errors

COMCAT.DLL 5.0.2600.1 I believe it from Office 2003. It is on and old Winxp sp2 machine I have laying around. COMCAT.DLL 5.0.2195.1 Comes from Windows 2000 SP4. I will be adding one of the files to SP3. Do you have any more newer files that work on Win98?
-
Does this update need to be patched?

OLEAUT32.DLL 2.40.4532.0 Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 Does not work. It breaks VB scripts and display an ActiveX error.
