I believe you only need it in the IOSUBSYS folder. Its safe to delete the other one.
-
I need some tools to work with. I need some suggestions. I am working on it as we speak searching high and low.I wonder if some type of emulator can be used or a generic safe mode driver?
-
I need a tool like Devcon. I was just experimenting trying to come up with a universal solution. I won't give up though. The PCI.EXE did recognize my hardware but not my USB 2.0 adapter. Thats means another tool will have to be added for add-on adapters.
-
These 5 also need to be deleted for a more complete cleanup: 1. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum\SCSI] 2. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\HID] 3. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\SCSIAdapter] 4. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\Storage] 5. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\USB] A program will be needed to recurse the PCI keys to identify the USB Controller Drivers. In addition, individual Driver Manufacturers create their own Keys in Enum and Class for their IOS Drivers as well. This approach, like the one in USESP3, will be problematical for USB Keyboard and Mouse Users. A more selective approach is needed. Thanks, I am trying to figure out the USB Keyboard and Mouse issue. Came across this in the process. I think you guys are a big help with the links and suggestions. Here's a before and after screenshot of the USBDEL.REG files. It works as if I deleted all the drivers in safe mode. It works before or after main updates. You can see that my Human Interface Devices, Storage Device and Universal Serial Bus controller are gone after the import of the reg file.
-
The last 4 are for my system. I just posted them as an example so users will have an idea on what to look for.If everyone did this, it would be easy just to import the reg file before or after running main updates. I have been playing with this for a few hours trying to make sure everything works. So far so good.

I have some good news Thanks ReK67, rloew and jaclaz. I have found you doNOT need safe mode to delete the USB drivers only if you have done the following below. The first 3 registry applies to all Win98 systems. The last 4 are specifically for my system hardware. If you guys find all the necessary keys after the first 3 that are listed, we might have something. I created a REG file from all of my USB devices plugged in, that will delete the drivers. After the installation of Main Updates, I did NOT reboot but imported the registry file to delete the drivers. I did NOT remove any USB devices. I rebooted and every single device that was left plugged in were re-detected. If everyone does this for their systems it would be a lot easier. Novices will have to follow the original instructions if they are not up to this. You'll have to find your own keys because every system is different. I'm working on your problem ReK67. The procedure would only need to be done once unless new USB drivers has been added. 1. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum\HID] 2. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum\USB] 3. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum\USBSTOR] 4. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum\PCI\VEN_1033&DEV_0035&SUBSYS_17351033&REV_43] 5. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum\PCI\VEN_1033&DEV_00E0&SUBSYS_00E01735&REV_04] 6. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum\PCI\VEN_1033&DEV_0035&SUBSYS_10331033&REV_43] 7. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum\PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_7112&SUBSYS_00000000&REV_01] P.S If we all start posting our keys we can have a full list.

I was just about to ask you to shed some light on this specific issue. Thanks I will list your instructions in version 3.7.
-
You are right jaclaz The Win95cmd does not have this problem. I was too lazy to test, but I just did it now.
-
This means the Win95cmd aka cmd.exe in Sp3 needs to be patch too?
-
what app did you use that requires it? Some of my apps installed it, but was not needed to work.I deleted the version that was installed and all worked fine.

Whenever users decides they don't want to follow instructions, I should just make things optional because they don't want to follow instructions. Yeah I took that as a sign of disrespect. In so many words, you said f*** the instructions because they don't apply to you. Its just a matter of time before others users start doing it.
-
All friends of mines will get updated versions. Even some people that's not listed as my friends will get updates.Just because I don't have you listed, doesn't mean you are not my friends. You know who you are. I'm tired of this s***. If you don't like what's in the SP then don't use it. It don't get no simpler than that. BOTTOM F***ING LINE!
-
Who's here to defend you Mr. Peacemaker. You couldn't leave well enough alone.I told you, you talk too much. I'm going to have a drink and ease my mind. Whenever you want it, I got it for you and anyone else.
-
Thats your problem, you think too much with that simpleton brain of yours. Stop thinking and learn something for a change.
-
And this is why we are at war. I didn't attack him for requesting NUSB to be optional. I attacked because he wants to use the SP but doesn't want to follow the instructions by not removing his intel drivers. So who fault is that. I keep saying follow the instructions. This is old news. I have moved on from this and so has he. So why are you keeping up the bul*****?
-
Show me where he asked. I guess if every single person contribute then I would have to add what they want too. So, if you call should asking then I was totally wrong.
-
You still don't get it do you? It not about the requests, its about how certain individuals want what they want and is not considered of others. Those files has been there for a long time. Now that this one person has a problem, I'm suppose to dismantle the SP for one person to benefit. Once you and him realize that, I think we will get along a lot better. Unless you take countless hours out your day and sacrifice certain things, then you don't know how hard it is. What if one user want the arrows removed, but don't want the icons changed. Another option has to be added. A patch has to be created. Things has to be tested. So, easy doesn't define the tasks thats ahead.
-
Then why do you have so much input. How can you comment on or about something you don't use.You help start the flame wars when all you do is open your mouth. I don't use RP. Do you see me in the RP thread talking this and that, no. My attitude is towards people like you, who have the option of installing something or not installing, who are never satisfied. I don't mind the feedback, but its people like you and jds who keeps its going. I'm not catering to just him. He wanted it removed because his system is not compatible, but hundreds of other systems are. I don't think you and him get it. Thats like saying the member that asked for the HOST file should have got it. You feel it should be optional when you don't even use the **** pack. That reallys help. Since you feel that way, you should create an update just for jds since you and him are seeing eye to eye or STFU before I get banned.

So far, we only have one person with a issue with the ASPI drivers.I have been using these drivers since 2004 on all types of computers and operating systems. Don't forget about (ALL) the people who uses the SP and haven't had any issues with their hardware. I'm positive hes's not the only one with unique hardware. He should search for a work-around unless others have problems, there will be no change. Unless someone willing to make a few hundred patches and a few hundred options, it is what it is. Example: MDGx updated SHELL32.DLL 4.72.3812.634 breaks the icons arrows from being used with TWEAKUI. So far, no one has attempted to rectify the issue. I guess having 50 options of patches is ideal for the SP. Kinda like the transparency patch that was found by Nexus_06. I should have a separate option for this too huh. Thank you Dave-H. Probably the best post I have read in a long time. Thanks again. That's because M$ is lazy. Whats the difference if I add every single update that was created for Win98 and made it optional as opposed to me or others downloading and installing every single update one at a time. No it won't What if it breaks something at the same time fixing something?. Then, what should it be called? Should the name or title really matter. It was called SP2 at first and no one said anything. Now that I added some more options and call it SP3, it not good enough. You can believe that if I do decide not to release to the public anymore, you'll get an exclusive update. Thats because the new patched shell32 from MDGx breaks the ability to remove the arrows. But since it fixes a bug, its ok to create one. Ok, I get it now.I think Auto patcher will be the best solution for everyone because, the enhancement/custom pack I worked on seems to be worthless. Enjoy 3.6 because its the last. Thanks for all the help along the way. Its time to move on.

How about I grant everyones request. I'll even add IE6, DirectX9, .NET, VPN, KernelEx, RP. I'll even add Regclean and all types of other tools. It will suck for the dial-up users but hey, I'm trying to get as many happy bunnies as I can. I'll make everything optional and then everyone will be happy. I'll make the updated shell32.dll optional, the updated explorer.exe optional. Oh wait, the people who have slower systems won't be able to benefit because, it will take too long to install because ALL the options is eating up resources. So now we are back to others users who are not happy. We can have a couple hundred options and many users still won't be happy. THERE IS NO ONE SOLUTION THAT SUITS ALL. USE AS IS OR DON'T! If we continue to have the debate, I will remove the SP all together. Only select individuals will see updates. I tired of this back and forth nonsense. I'm even being polite in asking.
-
Sure , even a single happy bunny is better than none , but still, if with a little effort you can make more happy bunnies, life would be better..... http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=128727&st=10 jaclaz I have tried. No matter what is done, it still will be some unhappy campers.
-
Thats funny you say that, because at the end of the day, you'll still have your complainers. Why did you add this? Why did you remove that? You said it yourself, there is no perfect solution. I have already accepted the fact, some people don't like SP3, and they don't have to. They also don't have to complain either, but thats comes with it. I'm alright if just a few people are happy.Even 98lite don't remove all the stuff I want removed, but I deal with or I remove the leftovers myself. For every PROBLEM there is a SOLUTION.

By default, these files are present on a clean/fresh/vanilla install. The SP only updates the files. They are considerd main updates/drivers. The is NO need to have multiple options for MAIN system updates. Most of the options are for users who may or may not want certain packages. Its hard to find a workaround because I can't test. If every single package and files was optional, then the SP wouldn't have any purpose. Everyone could just download all the files they wanted to use, installing them without any hassle. If you can find a workaround, I would add it to help future installations. Possible Solution Also, you might want to try adding the drivers for this piece of hardware last, after you install the SP. APIX.VXD WINASPI.DLL WNASPI32.DLL P.S Anyone who has already install 3.6, you doNOT need to install 3.7. The changes are very minor. Only clean installs and icon changers will be the ONLY ones to benefit from 3.7. New update later today.
-
It's always good to have the latest version of the Service Pack installed. if you are using an oler version of SP3.x then you don't need to do a clean install, you can just run the update. I'm glad you have both systems working now.

If you are using a VIA chipset controller then you need to delete the USBHUB20.SYS 5.0.2195.6891 and replace it with a VIA version USBHUB20.SYS 4.90.3000.11. I have not found a solution because I don't have a VIA set to test with. After you replace the file follow the USB instructions once more.
