  1. I did that on purpose
  2. I'll give you a clue on why your topic hasn't been replied to... it's because this topic is discussed about once a week EVERY week. It's already been asked this week. Give the search button a try.
  3. Happy New Year to everyone! I get to start the new year with a week of 75+ degree (that's Farenheit for all of you metric people out there) temperatures. I love Florida.
  4. Also... I don't know if Ecstatic is such a great word to use. Lets say someone is looking for your company. Maybe they aren't a great speller. Extatic? X-static? Estatic? See the dilema?
  5. Oh, also it's possible the folder it's trying to access does not have user permissions... you can just give the program folder permission and that might fix it too.
  6. a limited account does not have the permissions necessary to install programs or edit the registry. Unless you can find the registry keys it is affecting and give them permission, you will need to just give admin rights.
  7. Have you tried making the changes to the default profile? If you have and it still doesn't work you could always do a RunOnce on the registry key on first logon.
  8. OK... it was you who posted it... hm... guessing it didn't work for you then?
  9. Here you go... http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=35116 Enjoy.
  10. Someone posted how to do this the other day... do a search. I'll see if I can help you find it too... Also, you might want to edit your screenshot there... don't want to advertise to everyone you are using an illegal version of XP, now do we?
  11. I have installed over 3000 XP PCs in my life, and I have NEVER had any of the issues you listed... And if you want to believe any PC is secure you are insance. An OS by itself is never enough. You should always have a hardware firewall and virus protection. And without the proper knowledge, even some of the most secure PCs can still be hijacked. I suggest you wake up to the new age... stop wasting such a machine (A64 3200, 1GB RAM) on 98SE. I have an Athlon XP 1900 with 1GB of RAM and XP runs beautifully on my machine.
  12. I know this goes against what you want to do... but you will never get the performance out of 2k3 server that you would get out of an XP machine. It's not made to do what you want it to do. And at a heaftly price tag of $800+ your not in your right mind using it for that purpose.
  13. If I remember correctly (and I may be wrong because it's been a long time since I have done this...) I don't believe you can use quotes within' that registry setting... As I said, I might be wrong. You have no spaces so really no need for quotes... give it a try.
  14. You can have Windows load 3rd party drivers (F6 during normal setup) without having to use them... I recommend you add them, it won't hurt your other installs.
  15. See the latest info? The earthquake caused the axis of the earth to be knocked off by 1 inch and the rotation speed quickened by 3 millionths of a second... They are saying it won't cause any changes in climate or anything noticable both now and in the far future.
  16. You can actually locate on the Microsoft site a generic key that will allow you to install Windows XP. It will of course require you to register it within' 30 days, but the big name companies use OLA versions to install the original versions and they don't require activation.
  17. Let me break it down a little more for you. The only way you would be able to make it work the way you want it to is if you hacked the USERS hive of the registry to point the user you created to the profile you copied. I can recommend a great book to you... Windows XP Registry Guide by Jerry Honeycutt (http://www.honeycutt.com/)
  18. A user account is attached to a SID. If the SID of that user account does not match it will create a new directory. MCTs method should work for you...
  19. I don't see the need for him to be more descriptive other than what box pops up that didn't used to?
  20. It is not possible to slipstream Office into Windows...
  21. msiexec /p E:\Visio2003\Visio2003-KB840663-FullFile-ENU.MSP /a "E:\Visio Professional\VISPRO.MSI" SHORTFILENAMES=TRUE /qb Give that a try... maybe that will work for you..
  22. If you are looking for speed then certainly RIS may not be the best option... but if you are looking for stability, image size, and easy updatability then it's a viable option. Just to give you an idea of how I set it up before... When you would start a PC and log in you would choose either "By Position" or "Manual Selection" If you choose "By Position" it would give you a list of positions within the company and when you selected it the image would begin. It would install all of the programs that position required and configure them. If you choose "Manual Selection" you could go through every software package available and choose the version you wanted to install, or if you wanted to install it at all. There was also an option to run a Recovery Console from the RIS server. Since the RIS Client is already authenticated to the server there is no need to worry about your passwords being burnt onto a disk, it's all secure with RIS. I know there are other options out there, but for me this is one of the most secure. Also, there is no need to give out passwords to your builders so that they can add it to the domain, RIS does that for you. There are many ways to run RIS, including the ability to pre-prep machines using MAC address.... but you can also choose not to require pre-prep instead allowing user choice. (obviously I went with the last) Of course, RIS alone (as any other UA option) isn't enough... you have to know how to create packages, unattend other programs, use batch script... RIS is just another media for your Unattended Windows XP cds (works with server editions too)
  23. I'm done argueing with you all about RIS. Beleive what you would like. Honestly, unless you have worked in a corporate environment with thousands of computers I don't believe you are in a position to make a suggestion on this. (not saying you don't, but if you don't then...) Good luck.
  24. A good thing to do is check them out with the Better Business Bureau. It appears they have a very good rating... http://www.labbb.org/BBBWeb/Forms/Business...AID=2&hAddrID=1
