  1. if you are trying to load the drivers on an already loaded machine get the set devicepath.exe utility and run it to point to your exploded driverpacks folder then have XP search for the drivers for missing devices. Either remove them and refresh the device manager or manually select each one. And if it is there it should search the whole tree and find it. Takes longer but it works. Then run devicepath again to reset it to the default if you delte the driver folder.
  2. Better off in the Device Drivers forum, but yes, Basrat the Sneaky started creating them here but has created his own forum at www.driverpacks.net for the packs and the questions.
  3. Welcome to MSFN! Check out http://unattended.msfn.org/ for the basics.
  4. No, and no. I'll try them tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks for the suggestions.
  5. yes it was.

    Hey.

    Welcome to MSFN
  7. I have two machines that recently everytime I try and launch a program or open a window wants to reinstall, or possibly just add something to the user profile, not sure at the moment I'm too frustrated with it to dig without punching the screen. If I uninstall the software and reinstall, from cd or from hard drive the problem persists. The only solution I have found is to leave it uninstalled which is not an option as it is required for these users to do their job. Anyone know of a way to prevent it from reinstalling or asking for the cd every time I try and do something?
  8. I help support many thousands of computers and users, and we recommend and set every user desktop to download and install the updates. I do my own so I know what gotchas may arise and then how to fix em. Also those users range from how do I right click to mouse to super uber mega geeks. The geeks we are not as worried about but ideally the stupidity of the former should not affect the rest either. So in my environment it just makes sense. It is easier to fix the issues that come up due to a problem from a hotfix than to fix all the machines because one person got infected because of a security flaw that then infected everyone else because of that same security flaw.
  9. Those are set by registry settings. 10. Here is my sysprep.inf file. Inside the sysprep folder I have an i386 folder, which contains $oem$, which has cmdlines.txt and the CMD file that are called from it, and a couple of folders for hardware specific drivers or drivers that don't play well with certain systems. ;SetupMgrTag [Data] AutomaticUpdates=Yes [Unattended] UnattendMode=FullUnattended UnattendSwitch=Yes OemPreinstall=Yes WaitForReboot=No OemSkipEula=Yes TargetPath=\WINDOWS InstallFilesPath=C:\sysprep\i386 KeepPageFile=0 UpdateInstalledDrivers=Yes DriverSigningPolicy=Ignore [GuiUnattended] AdminPassword=* EncryptedAdminPassword=NO AutoLogon=Yes AutoLogonCount=5 OEMSkipRegional=1 OEMDuplicatorstring="HII 09/09/2006" TimeZone=35 OemSkipWelcome=1 [UserData] ProductID=abcde-fghij-klmno-pqrst-uvwxy FullName="Main User" OrgName="IcemanND" ComputerName=* [SetupMgr] DistFolder=C:\sysprep\i386 DistShare=windist [Display] BitsPerPel=32 XResolution=1024 YResolution=768 [TapiLocation] CountryCode=1 Dialing=Tone AreaCode=574 [Branding] BrandIEUsingUnattended=Yes [Proxy] Proxy_Enable=0 Use_Same_Proxy=0 [GuiRunOnce] Command0=c:\postghost\finalize.cmd [Identification] JoinWorkgroup=BUILD [Networking] InstallDefaultComponents=Yes [Shell] DefaultStartPanelOff=Yes DefaultThemesOff=Yes [Sysprep] BuildMassStorageSection=yes [SysprepMassStorage]
  11. so could an 8088, it just depends upon how long you are willing to wait. I have better things to do. Heck How long would it take to type that password in. By the time you typed it in it would be time to go home.
  12. Sounds like whatever windows thinks should launch is being looked for in 'C:\\E\LOCALS~1\Temp', being an invalid path it can't find it. Search your registry for that value and see where it is located and for what program.
  13. Didn't find anything for 6, but a lot of stuff for 5. Try this http://www.governmentsecurity.org/forum/in...p;hl=deepfreeze or google: 'disable deepfreeze'
  14. try removing the quotes from the UpdateUPHAL line.
  15. Let's see: Just the 26 letters: 1.2884604380460294969215799521264 * 10^111 Add the numbers (36 possible characters): 6.9938097529870449045217476747892 * 10^153 Add the characters above th numbers (46 possible characters): 3.7962651717234416399235239661055 * 10^196 Add the rest of the type able characters on the keyboard (68 possible characters) 3.9406742700736512326870695672994 * 10^290 Should only take a a few lifetimes to crack.
  16. If you remove all of the memory do you get a post error at boot? If not, recheck all of the power connections to the motherboard. If they are all good try another power supply, especially with an AMD, they are very picky about the PSU. I have had a PSU that worked on an AMD stop working with it and when tested with an Intel worked just fine. Also try reducing to minimum config. Just have motherboard, processor, memory and video, no drives attached and see if it will at least post. Last suggestion, take the motherboard out ot the case and buil it out of the box on a static safe surface, like the cardboard box, and see if it will post built in a breadboard fashion.
  17. sounds like you forgot to set oempreinstall=yes in you winnt.sif file
  18. Yes, I use it. try adding OemPreinstall=Yes to the Unattended section. looks like the only real difference between your and mine.
  19. Sorry it took so long been out sick. here is the cmd script to get the name from the network: Change the 188 to the first octect of you IP addreses, or if you want to further narrow it change that same line to include more of the for variables. %c %d %e %f would be the entire ip address with spaces between the octets. for /f "tokens=1-6* Delims=.: " %%a in ('ipconfig /all') do ( if "%%a %%b %%c"=="IP Address 188" ( for /f "tokens=1,2* delims=:. " %%x in ('nslookup %%c.%%d.%%e.%%f') do ( if "%%x"=="Name" wscript chgown.vbs %%y ) ) ) And here is the VBScript (named: chgown.vbs)I used to change the name pilfered from somewhere and modified to take an argument to change the name to or prompt for one if not given. 'ChgOwnOrg.vbs - Change Win9x Registered Owner/Organization. 'Modified for Windows XP Set colItems = objWMIService.ExecQuery("SELECT * FROM Win32_NetworkAdapterConfiguration",,48) For Each objItem in colItems strIPAddress=objItem.IPAddress(0) arrIPAddress=split(strIPAddress,".") objitem.DNSName if arrIPAddress(0)="129" and arrIPAddress(1)="74" then cj=objitem.DNSHostName end if next set args = WScript.Arguments Set ws = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") Dim args, ws, t, p2, p3, p4, p5, n, j, h, f, k, cj Dim itemtype, num num=args.count if num>0 then cj=args.Item(0) end if p2 = "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\ComputerName\ComputerName\" p3 = "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\" p4 = "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ComputerName\ComputerName\" p5 = "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\" if num=0 and cj="" then t = "Computer Name Change Utility" do cj = InputBox("Type new Computer name and click OK", t, j) loop while cj="" end if If cj <> "" Then ws.RegWrite p2 & "ComputerName", cj ws.RegWrite p3 & "NV Hostname", cj ws.RegWrite p4 & "ComputerName", cj ws.RegWrite p5 & "NV Hostname", cj End If
  20. you have two machines, for the sake of discussion the one with the shared folder I'll call the server, since that is what it is acting like and the other the client. If you want the client to connect to the folder on the server and have to enter an ID and password then the account that used to log on to the client computer cannot exist as an account with permissions to the folder. Or an alternative is to not have the same name and passworded account on the server at all. You only get prompted to login to shares when the login account and password do not match what is valid on the share for the server. Then it prompts you to enter the appropriate credentials that the server knows about to give you access to the folder. Either the ID or the password can different or both. Is that clear as mud for my 1k post.
  21. Since it's your own application try replacing explorer.exe as the shell for boot up with your application and afterthe customer does what they need launch explorer. Or remove the taskmanager all together.
  22. You'll want ACPI. The main difference is power management. DEP: "OEM PREINSTALL" - depends
  23. expand them from DetachedProgram. see settings in winnt.sif.
  24. New version: Will maintain the orignal basic version and the new version will be considered the Enterprise version 2.2. If all you care about is the local machine you are running the utility on you only need the original. If you need to scan multiple systems from a list of machines, from a Active Directory list, offline registry, exported registry file, manual decode from direct data input, or want to search the entire registry from beginning to end and decide all possible DigitalProductIDs, then download the enterprise version.
  25. I'll post the script tomorrow when I get to work. As far as changing the product key you would need to have a file somewhere that related the machine to a particular product key. something as easy as a text file with tab or comma separated values would work. then after configuring the name you could search the file for the computer name and license number and change it using the scripts microsoft provides. Do you want the vbscript or the cmd script? or both?
