  1. Yep, and others too. Got them all... (the links are given within this topic)a followup to my previous post MS FTP site IP address - ftp://64.4.17.176/ HTH... edit - in FF using IP address - "win98"=bad (doesn't even show) / "Win98"=good In explorer "buggy" Unix-like access? (shows up in FlashGet too and does not work - INDEX.HTM's). Seriously - lets COOK this horse on a spit!
  2. (sigh...) as I said - UNIX! AFAIK, only Unix-like systems allow TWO folders with same name CASE DEPENDENT! You may then create a "junction" (?) between the two. If you look back in "history", you'll find that MS used Unix for their servers long ago (not now, though I believe). Look it up... (a "reference" here.) Besides, I think it's irrelevant now. The "proof" of Flashget downloading FOLDERS instead of INDEX.HTM (in the Site Explorer part) kind of shows that. (try it and see... ). Bottom line - get it while you can. The Folders/Files count has been proven accurate. edit - More here. I already responded to someone else about their ZA Firewall and Akamai. MS utilizes Akamai Servers and many are... UNIX UNIX UNIX!!!! @Multibooter - I have Copied BOTH "folders" AND used Flashget TWICE! (on the "good" folder)!! It always comes up the same. You are blaming "corruption"... I blame your Software. Try the OTHER folder and see what happens. edit - Linux Path Lengths info. I'm sure some Linux/Unix Guru will correct me... File System Compares Wiki Try this (halfway down) - Map a Drive to the FTP site as indicated (2K and up). See if that makes any difference. Just like your own HDD.
  3. If you are working with MCE, then it will NOT work!!!! The ONLY way of avoiding it is to use a non-MCE key. MCE key is what Initiates an MCE Install (which include the CMPNENTS components). Non-MCE key initiates Standard Pro Install. No way around it. You CAN'T slip SP3... It will "revert" it to a Standard Pro, which you do NOT have a Key for! Using YOUR key and that slipped CD may or may not work, but I doubt it. You just indicated it's an OEM CD (I have one that came with my Dell MCE2005). Try it AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!! The Internet is RIFE with horror stores of Slipping SP3 into MCE2005. Sorry, can't help you any more. You'll have to look for that elsewhere... I WILL tell you this, however... that key you need has to be for THAT BRAND COMPUTER (i.e. HP, Dell, etc.) to pre-activate (like mine)! Browse around here to see what's different. There is NO effective way (AFAIK) to Slip it. Best bet is to Download Any/All Updates and install WHILE RUNNING. It can THEN detect you are RUNNING MCE. If you Slip it, there is NO WAY TO KNOW if it's a Standard or MCE. AGAIN, MS "dropped the ball" on SP3. (READ inside that link - PRE-2005 version it WAS possible, as SP2 did NOT hose it).
  4. (sigh....) I can give a screenshot... wait one... (MAN this is becoming a REAL ISSUE - I am doing this on 2K3). See the "w" vs "W"??? Please note that I entered the site in... WINDOWS EXPLORER. Win7 has an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT way of browsing (drove me crazy). Different way of "settings" in IE6 v IE8/9, ok? I encountered this when my brother "upgraded" his IE once. edit - the "mystery" deepens. Copying from "W" then from "w" and comparing against each other - EXACT SAME CONTENTS. Comparing (either) against previous FlashGet - SAME!!!! (ref. the Directory List). vs And.. please note the link I gave to a REFERENCE to the APRIL MSDN Libraries (remember that post?). I will SUSPECT that THAT one was the "source" of the FTP site contents (note the folder dates) and NOT the OCT one. (strike that - date is not even close...)Errr, I don't think this is worth pursuing any further. edit2 - AHA!!!! rloew PROBABLY got the "y2k" folder also!!! "7 files, 1 folder" - putting them BOTH BENEATH a "new" folder yields... "2389 files, 94 folders" (excluding the "new" folder"). I'd say this horse has been beat to death... let's have a bar-b-que!
  5. 1 - Nope... that would be (AFAIK) for Personal use, so probably ok. 2 - Who's Herman? What link? * - Try just slipping SP3 and the Drivers and "Create ISO" - NO OTHERS e.g. UNATTENDED, Hotfixes, Tweaks, etc. ONLY the Service Pack and Drivers. Remember, Drivers are the INF files and the associated files, NOT the downloaded EXE file! The EXE files must FIRST be Unpacked (Try Universal Extractor). Burn ISO at a LOW SPEED (no more than 8x).
  6. ??? That makes absolutely no sense at all...
  7. "Unix" Also note that you had INITIALLY discovered a "reskit" AND a "Reskit". Betting the "paths" (hence the folders+files) differ between the two. I would be interested to see that "list" from rloew... edit - OUCH!!! There appears to be TWO Win98 folders - "win98" AND "Win98"... The "lower case" one apparently gives INDEX.HTM for the Folders but files are inside. The "Upper Case" one is the one that can apparently be mass-downloaded. (FlashGet). I'll try "copying" it instead (SLOWWWW!). edit - thought I'd include this
  8. You are not working with MCE/Tablet. Slipping the SP3 automatically puts that folder there regardless (it's in the SP). Again, that folder ONLY exists on CD#2 of the MCE. CD#1 is IDENTICAL to a Standard XP-Pro. If the WinXP you are slipping is XP-Home, it will NOT be "integrated" (won't be put there - Home is detected and a different set will be integrated). I said that already. As for the "differences", I don't want to go back to my notes as to WHAT they are, just be satisfied that they men nothing whatsoever. Remember that MS had a PRE-INTEGRATED CD of XP in all cases.SP3 Integration into MCE was never correctly done by MS, so nLite will "hose" an MCE by back-pedalling (e.g.) MediaPlayer (among other things). This would happen even Manually. nLite only Integrates according to Manual. No magic, except that nLite is kind enough to "re-compress" several files whereas Manually they will not (and you will have older compressed and newer uncompressed). Just do it the way I said...
  9. Using Beyond Compare FTP in XP clarifies that. Glad you finally got that out of the way. (I have never used it). Different subject entirely (you had noted using it for COMPARE purposes - I use DirPrudence). Perfectly aware of WinRar. I have it... The discussion was about FlashGet / FF / IE / Opera / Add-Ons and how they "function" in relation to dependability and datestamps. No more point in beating that up any more. Right is right. Not sure if "wget -r" would do the trick. Now for "older guy"... do you REALLY want to go there? 1970 - BAL (you know, putting the Machine Language in in Binary?). That was the Pre-Cursor to Assembly (BAL=Basic Assembly Language). Tested out of 2 qtrs (college) of Assembly in 1978 and 1 qtr of Basic (perfect score) without even attending the couses. Already knew Assembly (see BAL above). Polaris Button-pusher, anyone? Better check my birthday - be glad to give you my Resume and my Polaris Certificates.
  10. I believe you have to integrate Office via the RunOnce method. Look here and here. I also believe that you will have to use the Office Customizer to create a Transform to be used. That's the little info I know as I have never tried to "integrate" Office. Search subforum "Unattended XP" and "Application Installs" for Search Value of "Office" (how I found what I linked). HTH
  11. Quick test reveals that this should be ok. To save space, you can probably (afterward) delete SP2.CAB and SP2.CAT (about 18mb) and the "cmpnents" folder (applies only to MCE/Tablet CD#2 - another 25.7mb). ONLY Copy the Source to a Folder and nLite ONLY the Network SP3 and NOT "Create ISO". Rerun nLite and ONLY "Create ISO" to create an (almost identical to Pre-Integrated) SP3 CD. That can be your "working CD" from that point on (burn it and store it as a backup).HTH

    Drive Order

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/833721 So... irrelevant. "Drive Section"? Do you mean "Volume"? They will be "sorted" by Volume Name and not by Drive Letter. The Lower ("Graphical") will show, as bphlpt suggested, Disk0->Partition1/Partition2/(etc.) also regardless of Drive Letter. Drive Letters "sorting" only occurs in Windows Explorer (afaik) and Defraggers (etc). Is your OS on the D-driver perchance (second partition)? Could you provide your "BOOT.INI" contents? Just to clarify a couple of things/confusion. BTW, I don't think you have (based upon your probable partition/drive-letter setup) any "options" to cure your "niggle" (I could be wrong).
  13. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Vista_editions Read that - you may want to stick with Enterprise as it's the better of the two (in addition to supporting MUI, which Business does not - the problem is there since you attempted to change languages?)
  14. @dencorso - That being said, I shall not "bandy" technical details that I absolutely know to be true (e.g. - Date Formats, Folder Dates, etc.). Granted, our systems are "slightly different", but seriously, the bottom line is the irrelevancy of that, based upon the fact that they are "simple adjustments" that one might have assumed (my error) that another knowledgeable member would have known about. I test for proofs before I open my "big mouth" (yes, sometimes very wide...). I would have thought (again, my error) that Multibooter would have done the same before responding as was done. PLEASE, Sir Multibooter, trust me! I've been using Windows since the early days (NT Workstation, WFW, 95, 98, 98SE) when its was "foisted" onto the U.S.Government during the transition from Mainframe. It's not in my nature to give misinformation. At this point, I shall leave it, since it serves no more purpose. I've done my "informational" duty. C-ya l8tr, Multi! (<-sorry, but that's the best apology I can give)
  15. Google - Akamai outbound https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2367148?start=0&tstart=0 http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprosecurity/thread/c9a2020b-5962-49de-a577-d47c583b274b/ You also didn't mention whether the connection was Inbound or Outbound. Also Google - Akamai DRM Again, you MUST have some piece of software you are using AT THE TIME that is attempting to make a connection. Also Google - Akamai software Microsoft http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=65&topicid=22507 I could also venture to say you have (maybe?)... http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/update.htm by sheer accident you "installed" it which will no longer work.Newer Media Player (DRM) MIGHT be causing it. (really unsure...)
  16. @submix8c, this is what I was talking about, and what I think the OP was talking about as well.(Yes, I believe you DID misunderstand... sheesh!!!) Cheers and Regards Nope... no misunderstanding. See attached Screenshots. First is the Add-On's (note the Adobe PDF). Second is my Temp Folder - note that I have BOTH a PDF and a DOC opened. Granted, the Adobe is WITHIN the Browser and the DOC is OUTSIDE of the Browser, HOWEVER, you MUST have the associated Software installed, AND the File itself will ALWAYS Download to the TEMP folder (Go ahead - open a LARGE pdf in IE/FF).Screenshot #3 shows... OPENED IN IE!!!! I simply am CLARIFYING a misconception. The file is REALLY opened BY THE APPLICATION, and NOT a "plugin". AND they OPEN IN THE BROWSER!Nope, no misunderstanding here... (edit - snapshots out of order, but I'm sure you can distinguish)
  17. 1 - B.S. on the "Folder Date" - it will ALWAYS be the "Download Date", same as if you used Explorer FTP Copy/Paste. I just did it AGAIN using Flashget - Same Effect No Difference. Unless FG1.73 BROKE something in FG1.72. Of course, I HAD the older version and INSTALLED NEWER OVER (I said that, RIGHT?) and it WORKED THE SAME (AFAICR). (P.S. Copy/Paste or Cut/Paste on a Local Disk-to-Disk - note the RESULT - Same! Folder MUST be created NEW! The ONLY way a Folder Date remains is a Cut/Paste on the SAME DISK PARTITION! Copy/Paste WILL ALWAYS make a DATE OF COPY for FOLDERS, but RETAIN File Dates!) 2 - Date Format "Difference" - XP can change the Format to correspond to Win98SE as I just did it. 3 - DirPrn (Karen's Directory Printer) prints the Dates in the Format selected in the OS. Download and Install it (and VB6 Runtime). 4 - DirPrn can Optionally print the Folder Dates - I did NOT select it as it is irrelevant (see #1). 5 - FlashGet is FlashGet - whether used on XP or 98SE is irrelevant. It works the SAME WAY (see #1 and #2). 6 - I tend to "store" the FF Add-On XPI files (actually renamed ZIP files) for later installs. Download (save) to Disk, open FF and browse to it and Open the XPI - It installs! 6a - Install FF 6b - Install the Add-On's/Plug-In's (usually, the associated Software is installed FIRST) 7 - Repeat, I do NOT use Opera and do NOT have it installed. I;m perfectly satisfied with IE and FF. I won't even ATTEMPT to debate something I have NEVER used (including the "Add-Ons" for it) 8 - I provided Hashes to assist YOU in confirming that you have good files (HashMyFiles will provide that as well as DirPrn) ref. #'s 1->4 - I did JUST THAT!!! Tested THOSE and THAT is my RESULTS! Want additional Prints and Snapshots? Why on God's green Earth are you disputing me? This is NOT "rocket science". Try it yourself and STOP making ME do it! Provide your REAL results instead of THIS nonsense if you REALLY want to "disprove" my assertions...
  18. Script is not Windows 7 Specific...
  19. AKAMAI is also associated with MICROSOFT. Google those two words and see what I mean. You must have SOME piece of software that was running that wanted to "phone home". Akamai does more than just "advertising". Did it identify the Application that wanted to "reach out and touch"?
  20. ??? Better yet, get the associated INF files for your Monitors - they tell EXACTLY what they can/can't do. NEVER use "Plug-And-Pray" for the Monitor! Look at the back of it/them and get Make/Model and Google them. There are ALWAYS INF files for them and SOMETIMES if you're lucky you can get the associated ICM's. Those INF's keep the Graphic Adapter from going "out of bounds" and even give MORE that what "Plug-and-Pray" THINKS they can do. Right here they are. Download, Unzip, Change it in Device Manager (Update Driver). 1920x1080 Max... HTH... edit - note that EVEN THOUGH Win9X is NOT specified, it WILL (should) WORK!!!
  21. FlashGOT v1.2.1.18 - Only choice is "FlashGot"... Again I have FlashGET v1.73 and YES it's installed on all of XP, 2K3, AND 98SE. IE6SP1 on all 3. FF 3.6.28 on XP and 2K3, v1.8.(something) on 98SE. The listing is from Karen's Directory Printer. Are you implying that Long Dates don't work on Win98SE??? IT'S IN THE DIRECTORY ENTRIES!!! Attached is a SNAPSHOT!!!! Please note that you had used a DIFFERENT "plugin" version... B-flippin-S that Flashget does NOT store Server dates! How do you think I got them??? GET RID OF THE BUGGY ONE!!!! The Registry is UNCHANGED when you "upgrade" - the "Registered" becomes... IRRELEVANT! I upgraded MINE the SAME WAY!!! Painless!!! (I DID say I USED to have v1.72, RIGHT?) My FG1.73 - MD5 and SHA-1 aa87b7c2b72228d50368248accf4ea37 70c479dba1c5980ee68e60fadca2aa39e834ccd0 THAT one you JUST GOT is the LAST ONE AVAILABLE!!!! ALL FIXED!!! And AGAIN... DISABLE that SINGLE BHO!!!! IT would be your "heartburn"... (that's a big... WOW!!!! really?)
  22. DOH!!!! and... DUH!!!!!!!!
  23. I believe that what you are describing is regarding opening the document FROM inside IE using an external app, whereas I believe the OP was talking about opening the document WITHIN IE and never leaving IE. As he said, this is possible with pdf files with the appropriate plugin installed. I'm not aware of which, if any, plugins enable this behavior for the document types he listed, but I would imagine that Google could find out for him. I don't know, and frankly don't care, since I avoid using IE if at all possible. I would rather use an external program expressly meant for that purpose.Nuh-uh!!! I have Adobe installed, and it OPENS from WITHIN FF and IE to the EXTERNAL program, JUST like OPENING an EXE will OPEN it to the EXTERNAL EXE (all within the TEMP folder). Seriously, I do it all the time! MP3's and whatever else work... THE SAME WAY! All you needs is the "plugin" Interface! YES! DANG IT!!! INSTALL OFFICE 2007 or HIGHER!!! OR OFFICE 2002/2003 AND CONVERSION PACK!!!!(No I did NOT misunderstand... sheesh!!!)
  24. 'K... but already attached the list... FYI - didn't I suggest FlashGot Add-On? That's what I use in FireFox. Works fine... And point of interest - the v1.72 is the same as v1.73 except without "bugfixes" (probably what you'd been encountering). The v1.8x and up is where "radical changes" happened. edit - The Add-Ons could care less about the Version, as long as they can "hook" the FlashGet program(s) - the FOLDER name and FILE names remain the same. You DID notice that the FlashGet program initiates, right? IOW, I had "upgraded" from v1.72 to v1.73 painlessly.
  25. 1 - Yes, if you have the associated software installed (Box will say "Save" or "Open", just like an EXE file) 2 - No clue... why would you want to do that? Isn't the "function" INTEGRATED in IE? (see #1) You must be a Programming Whiz to even suggest such a project. If so, why would you ask here/
