  1. Are you using a custom boot? I've had this happen when the pallete is wrong in the ntoskrnl.exe try using the cd recovery util and overwrite the ntoskrnl.exe in %windir%\system32 with the one from the cd. Make sure you expand it after the copy though. Just a thought
  2. try typing in autoexec at the command prompt and that should work. If not use CD DIRNAME to goto the drive that you booted from. (Where DIRNAME = drive letter) Good Luck
  3. Try this one. Hope it helps http://gothicpoetry.hb-inc.net/msi.dll.zip
  4. Try to do a system restore and see if that fixes the problem. If it does then it was just a bad install so you can leave it restored or try reinstalling the Service Pack If that doesn't work do a system restore to before you installed the service pack and then throw in your Win2k cd and do a repair of the os. That's all I can realy think of off hand that would fix the problem.
  5. I believe if you edit the string multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS in the partition(2), change it to partition(1) IE. multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS Do this in both instances and it should work. Besure to back up you boot.ini as something like boot.old or some other so if it doesn't work you can just delete and rename. Hope that helps *Stupid me forgot to look at the second page. Sorry Lol
  6. Also you might try just leaving the everyone permission blank rather then putting it to deny. This has been know to case an issue if the user is a part of both groups.
  7. True. In most cases this is not need. But you never know maybe it will help. Try and see.
  8. Vista is still in the beta so my guess would be wait and see if it gets fixed on the next go around. But if not then that could be your only option. Check and see if Microsofts Forums on the Vista project have any clues. If all else fails email microsoft and let them know about it. That way they can at least know about that problem and try to fix it while the OS is still in beta.
  9. Ok, Here's what The Rock forgot. On step 4. Before you click apply click on the check box that says "Replace Owner on Subcontainers and objects. Then on step 5 Before you click apply and ok goto the permissions tab. Make sure these two check boxes are checked. 1) Inherit from partent the permission entries that apply to child objects. Include these with entries explicitly defined here AND 2) Replace permission entries on all child objects with entries show here that apply to child objects. Now click on your user name in the panel above and then click apply. Let the permissions set and the continue on with his steps and you should be just fine. Question: Also were the files encrypted from the previous user name or just PRIVATE? Hope this helps.
  10. just for a heads up. In IE6 on the .org the download link is wrong, http://www.wpiw.net/wpi_4.2.rar and not http://www.wpiw.net/downloads/wpi_4.2.rar
  11. Ok here's my delema. I have a client computer that needs some programs moved to a new computer. His harddrive is going out and only has about 3 or so more starts left. He doesn't have any disks or backup. They cannot be replaced due to no longer being produced by his company. His is required to have these programs to stay in business. I need to know the best and most speedy way to move all of his installed programs from one drive to another and then to his new OS. Is there any program that can do this, a cross OS transfer of installed programs, and if not how would one go about doing this by hand. I understand that reg files would need to be moved as well as any program related files. I would like to avoid doing this by hand as it would take quite some time. Is there any programs that can tell me the location of these files and reg keys or do i have to search by hand. I would like to make such a program if there isn't one. So any suguestions would be cool too. Also any coding tips. I know a moderate amount of VC# so yeah. Ideas?
  12. war is right. I think that WU page checks to see if the activex control is present. I've updated a few computers lately that didn't have WGA on it yet and WU required it to be installed to veiw the new v6 page. But I tried a java disable and got around it. javascript:void(window.g_sDisableWGACheck='all') You put this in the address bar before you click express or custom. Then just press enter and click your option. Works fine for me. I use it in my business when I run across a hacked system that I'm fixing.
  13. Hello all guru's. I don't know if anyone has run across this problem before but any insite would be nice. I made an unattened WinXP/Sp2 install using nLite v1.05b and after my third update to my ISO I started to have a hang at T-13. I dabbled with it for about 3 days and found the problem to be in my HIVESFT.INF. It was a little over 16Mb in size. How this happened I don't know because the size should be about 274Kb. So I opened it up in notepad and found over 10000 lines of the same code repeated. The line was "HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Driver Signing","Policy",0x00000001,0" It took me over two hours to delete all of the lines by hand. This was done by holding shift+pDown. After they were all removed (save one) the UA went on without problem. But now after about another 3 or 4 ISO updates it's starting again. Does nLite have anything to due with this or is there something else that I've overlooked. I use nLite to make all of my ISO's. I just haven't got the time to make a copy of the boot sector yet to make my own bootable ISO's without nLite. I'll try and post the copy of the 16Mb HIVESFT file with this message for all to ponder. Any idea's as to why this is happening would help a lot. As it is now, everytime I get ready to update my ISO I need to edit the HIVESFT to remove about 10 lines of that code. I'm trying to make a 6 Dual-Layer DVD UA to install of my apps and dev tools so this is the last thing I need to worry about. Idea's? If you want to check out my 16Mb HIVESFT click here: HIVESFT Download *Link now fixed
  14. it looks really good. This will save me some real time.
  15. I'm sorry if this has already been posted but the search feature doesn't allow for the word of "Beta". I'm making a 6 dvd unattended install and I need to know what the switches would be for MS Visual Studio 2005 beta 2. I tryed using the msi install switches for all the different packages in a RunOnceEx setup but when I went to load the program it said that some components where either missing or corrupt. Is there a way to install them all as the normal installer would without any user input? I could alway use an Autoit script but I don't like those because they are quite buggy if you just use the record feature. Please some one help. I've been working on this to no avial for like 2 months almost.
