  1. Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Update Catalog To use this website, you browser must have the user data persistence setting enabled. To enable this, follow these steps: In Internet Explorer, click Tools , then click Internet Options. Click the Security tab, then click Custom Level. In the Settings dialog box, under the Miscellaneous section, find Userdata persistence and click Enable. Click OK twice to save and exit. Good or bad? Doesn't matter, I just won't let it force some stupid setting on me that doesn't have to do with anything (except for possible data mining on me). No, thank you. GL
  2. Nice job, but this means practically everything at http://thehotfixshare.net. Just kidding, there are lot of older versions there too. If you want, I can provide you with a list of all post-SP2 KBs I have on my system (according to the principle: only latest version of the dll comes in; and believe me, there are a lot of non-officials), but I don't have enough time to edit it into your structured format or know what KBs are superceded (because I delete the old ones both from hdd and the registry; and I think it's pointless to keep track of old versions). Anyway, good luck. GL
  3. Well, I just glanced the two articles and because they seemingly both offered no direct link to download, I treated them the same. Now I see 13 links to some "Atomic transactions" for "Windows Communication Foundation" stuff that hides the link. So it's not just the search engine of M$ that's weird... Myself, I treat all updates (official vs non-official) the same. If the dll has higher version number, it goes in. Never had a problem so far. Someday, when I have more free time, I might make a list for all updates that I use... But it's not so appealing now, when SP3 is around the corner. GL
  4. @DarkShadows: Yet another replacement then - by KB922668. M$ says it's cumulative. Nice catch GL
  5. Ehem... bump? I hope I'm not too impatient. GL
  6. You have been marked by Micro$oft in the name of security. The remedy. GL
  7. Two new babies : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945007 This one disables "click to activate" behavior in ActiveX controls (hopefully, not tested yet). http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942423 This one adds VC1 video codec (Blu-Ray, HD DVD) to Windows Media Player versions earlier than 11. GL
  8. So new spyware on the block, M$ promoted Spyware, isn't it ??? is that a big brother to Alexa ?? I wonder what will their antispyware tool say to that? Or: "it's from M$, it isn't spyware". GL
  9. Official. RADEN (Player Submitted Maps). Here (on the left side) you have many resources for RA2 and cousins. GL
  10. I just love M$ marketing dept. for making up ridiculous Three Letter Acronyms and forcing the the world to remember them. GL
  11. Maybe mplayer2.exe usually found in C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\ ? I was fooled by 123... thing, but they apparently both have that graphic. What I said about the frame (paper with corner folded) still applies, it may have took over the association in a less than usual way. Or may not... I think I remember that MPC takes over the file association, but leaves the icon... What are you trying to do? GL
  12. According to Wikipedia, "Family 5" Intel microprocesors are Pentium I and Pentium MMX (up to 300 MHz). By the way, I've installed KB936357 on tens of machines (both Intels and AMDs, all the way down to 600 MHz) without problems. While Woody's place is valuable source of information, it isn't exactly 'scientific' or 'programmers' treasure - just news collected from Internet. I've been following it for over a year.GL
  13. It's MPC. It's the first one on the last image you posted (contained in MPC, I checked), just overlaid onto a blank document window (paper with one corner folded). Maybe you have set the filetype association manually or in another way, not through MPC? GL
  14. @Nuhi: Feature requests: 1. For removal, please somehow link languages and keyboard layouts. Now it's too much scrolling betweent the two. Maybe just display them side by side? 2. If you can, please find a way to unbind Direct Parallel. I don't know who at this day and age uses that, but it gets installed regardles whether there is parallel port or not (I'm not 100% sure of this, but it gets installed often). For example, make it possible to keep parport and remove direct parallel. Thank you. Pozdrav
  15. "4Gb ought to be enough for everyone." Again?! :) GL
  16. I'd like to thank both you and puntoMX for mentioning other forums that might be helpful. Haven't been there yet, but hope to soon. Out of curiosity, since you recalled seeing other cases like mine in that forum, do you recall whether any of them eventually succeeded in restoring the non-working component? I haven't followed them closely, but I think unfortunately they were dying burners. Another thing you could do is take the Plextor self-test and know for sure. Again my memory is failing me, but you should be able to find the procedure in the manual if you still keep it. This is a feature rarely seen in other burners and involves doing a diagnostic burn on an empty medium and some shuffling of jumpers. You should be able to find more information either at the forum or on Plextor's official site. GL
  17. I hesitated to post link to another forum, but after puntoMX's reply, I'd recommend Plextor DVD Burner forum. Joe, there you will find everything you need to know about your plex (and more) If you're patient and turn a few pages back, you will even find posts about your exact model. Also check out the sticky FAQ in there. And yes, cases like yours were encountered before (CD or DVD component dying, and other working fine). GL
  18. I agree with every word. @extrabigmehdi: after SP2 there are very few updates that can be easily slipstreamed. GL
  19. SUperior SU Just as an idea in the spirit of discussion, not particularly suitable for puntoMX's needs. GL * Edit * Or maybe it is? I assumed it has no restrictions, but it has some. Never tried it, though.
  20. If I may chime in, this is similar to what I see when I apply the "NoDefaultAdminOwner" tweak AKA let windows assign permissions of newly created objects to administrator group instead of admin account (phew that was long). Then I usually eradicate the account and work as THE Administrator acount, but permissions of files created before (between install time and aplying the tweak) remain and show as question marks because the SID doesn't resolve. I remember I encountered this some time ago and solved it, by now I can't remember... Playing with registry/files permissions is no joy... I hit Apply and Windows says yessir, but bringing up permissions dialog after that shows the question marks again. On a similar note, does anyone know where are root permissions stored? I.e. in filesystem, those above the partitions (since partitions have some permissions they say they have inherited from their parent), same with HKLM for example, what is their parent? Poor little heirs... Nobody mentioned them in his/her last will. The OS is XP. And AccessEnum from Sysinternals helps a lot with this. GL
  21. These two are not new, they're even in XPSP0 (and the second one probably in all M$ OSes after 3.1). Did they actually work is another question. GL
