  1. As for making your cd better, you could buy a dvd burner and make a unattended DVD . Don't forget that the winnt.sif isn't the only option of making your cd better. There are different things you can do to modify it which can for you, make the cd better. My advice, think about what you want your cd to be able to do and then read a lot of threads. ]Bonkers[

  3. Read those links. They came from the MSFN Guide (the first thing a newbie should read before posting in the forum). http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/applications/innosetup.htm http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/applications/installshield.htm http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/applications/nsis.htm http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/applications/wininstall.htm http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/applications/wise.htm ]Bonkers[

  5. Could an inf genius help me with this conversion: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.nfo\OpenWithProgids] "nfo_auto_file"=hex(0): I imported that into the registry to see what the "type" was and it said REG_NONE and that the value was zero-length binary value. But I wasn't sure on how to conver that, Thanks ]Bonkers[
  6. Hey, just my 2 cents: 'neither! compaq is horrbile. don't even bother. toshiba is over priced for what you get. dell, well i just don't like them. and sony is your typical look cool laptops. i would look at either acer (i love mine, no problems with drivers or anything) or asus. i would recommend an intel centrino with an 8 cell battery. if you want battery life get a 14.1 or 15 inch screen, but if it isn't such a big priority get a 15.4. ]Bonkers[

  12. well, as you said it can be done with nlite. So that means it is possible to do it manually. But why don't you just use the merge cabs options (or whatever it is called) in nLite and do everything else manually? ]Bonkers[
  13. One is Symantec Antivirus "!Corporate!" Edition and the other is Norton Antivirus "!Home!". There is a difference ]Bonkers[
  14. Thanks for the tip Rave. I tried an install and noticed that it didn't work. I looked over your code and decided to add that line. Thanks ]Bonkers[
  15. read this Thermal Paste Review and then go purchase some ]Bonkers[
  16. Well, looks like my explaination doesn't work. I can't seem to figure out this one: HKLM,"%RunOnceEx%\0130",1,,"%systemdrive%\installs\desktop\vmware\VMware Workstation.msi /qn USERNAME=bob SERIALNUMBER="""aaaaa-bbbbb-ccccc-dddd""" REBOOT=ReallySuppress""" I think I need an explaination Thanks ]Bonkers[
  17. I installed the beta version. The one problem I had was that nLite kept telling me to download and install the 1.1 version. Until he fixes that I will be staying with 1.1. ]Bonkers[

  19. Thanks alanoll for all your help. I understand now (at least I believe) as to how the syntax works. I will try and explain it as best as I can incase anyone else needs this information. (alanoll or anyone else, if I am wrong, PLEASE correct to prevent others from skrewing up). The first " is ok and doesn't need anything special. The second one needs to have two before it. So basically, / = "" in this case. Keep doing this until the last one. Here is where it gets different. Count all the quotes (ignore the "" because they are just basically equal to a /). Now, for the last quotes which closes everything off, you put down "" plus quotes to close of the ones you counted. Hope that helps. If it doesn't really make sense, look at the examples from alanoll above. ]Bonkers[
  20. I tried to use the switch /saveinf="C:\avast.inf" when I did an install, but it didn't work. I don't want all the components of Avast Pro installed (ie. only p2p, standard shield and another one). I tried to write my own inf file with the components, but it didn't work. Does anyone know what the component names are? Thanks ]Bonkers[
  21. Thanks Alanoll. One question though. What is the idea behind it. For example, with the cmds the idea was (from the msfn guide) .So anytime we had to use a quote inside of a quote we just went /". I don't really understand why there are 3 quotes. Could you possibly do another example that might help explain the idea. (this was from my cmd file): HKLM,"%RunOnceEx%\0101",1,,"%systemdrive%\installs\desktop\apc\setup.exe -s -f1\"%systemdrive%\installs\desktop\apc\setup.iss\"" So would this be: HKLM,"%RunOnceEx%\0101",1,,"%systemdrive%\installs\desktop\apc\setup.exe -s -f1"""%systemdrive%\installs\desktop\apc\setup.iss"""" ? Thanks ]Bonkers[
  22. #3. (from flyakite multiboot cd/dvd guide) Also, a search would have brought this thread up: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=16898&hl= ]Bonkers[
  23. Ok, I did some little testing and I can't get it to look how I want. This is how it should be displayed in the registry: (with the quotes and all).I have tried using just " and then \" and then combinations, but I still can't get it. If someone who uses an inf knows the format of how to get it to import to the registry properly could let me, I would appreciate it. Thanks ]Bonkers[
  24. I did some reading and I saw a post by webmedic I believe. I know that I put quotes around the beginning and end of the data value (just after the last comma). What I am not sure about is with the install shield installers that are the frontend for msi installs. If we used a cmd file to add reg settings to RunOnceEx we had to use \" for every comma except the first and last. When I test my inf file I didn't get the right output. My question is, do I have to do this (the /") for infs also or just one at the beginning and at the end. Ex: HKLM,"%RunOnceEx%\0070",,,"Sun Java VM 1.4.2.03" HKLM,"%RunOnceEx%\0070",1,,"%systemdrive%\installs\common\sunjava\j2re14203.exe /S /v\"/qn ADDLOCAL=jrecore IEXPLORER=1 MOZILLA=1\"" or: HKLM,"%RunOnceEx%\0070",,,"Sun Java VM 1.4.2.03" HKLM,"%RunOnceEx%\0070",1,,"%systemdrive%\installs\common\sunjava\j2re14203.exe /S /v"/qn ADDLOCAL=jrecore IEXPLORER=1 MOZILLA=1"" or: HKLM,"%RunOnceEx%\0070",,,"Sun Java VM 1.4.2.03" HKLM,"%RunOnceEx%\0070",1,,"%systemdrive%\installs\common\sunjava\j2re14203.exe /S /v/qn ADDLOCAL=jrecore IEXPLORER=1 MOZILLA=1\". Me personally, I think the 2nd one is right, but if an inf expert could give some input, that would be appreciated. Thanks ]Bonkers[
  25. I modified the abcpy.ini to include my serial, username, install directory and company etc. I went to a command prompt and tried this: acropro.msi /qb and it says "This installation type is not supported in this version. Setup will now terminate." I then tried: setup.exe /S /v"/qb /norestart" and I got the same error. Any ideas? Thanks ]Bonkers[
