  5. undeadsoldier's post in MinimumXP Proj I'm using v 2.95, I have both 2.95 and 2.91, older versions on a disc around here somewhere. Been happy w/2.95 many moons now. @undeadsoldier- what version is yours based on, 2.79? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> My version is based on 5.092 When you run it, you should see the version number in the main winamp screen
  6. seriously... people are going to put winblows becuase of the fact that most people are scared when a form of unix is mentioned... i went to linux about 6 years ago on my main workstation, and i haven't turned back... whenever i want to play games, i play games on my windows box.. simple as that, i run FC3 as my linux distribution, and i have only turned it off in storms, or power outages cause it to go off... its stable, its clean, its fast, its...... you name it... sure it may not have the greatest gaming support, its getting there, and some games are even native to linux (ut2k4, doom3, q3) and loads more, even dos games using dosbox !... yes, it is easy to find drivers for windows, but linux has a broader hardware compatibility base, if you can't find a driver on linux, develop it, or get somebody else to develop it for you... if you can't develop it, try using a compatible device driver that suits it closer. Application dependency shouldn't be a worry if you using apt, or synaptic But... windows has its perks too, the fact that yes, its easily customed to suit per user needs, and yes most programs run "out of the box" without much needed user configuration... but like linux it has its downside aswell... the fact that you need extra privacy protection, virus and spyware protection... sure linux may need virus protection and all of that stuff... but when it all comes down to it... linux is protected more than windows... i know i haven't mentioned windows much at all in this reply, its because in my personal opinion, unix is a much greater supported based for developers, photo editors, and CAD engineering.. while windows has all of that AND gaming... the fact that i chose to go for linux is because of the fact that its easy for me to use, and i don't have to worry about lockups or crashes as much as a windows based machine has... thats it, all down to stability for me... and i'm greatful for whomever reads this little rant
  7. Heh..heh... If you read the "Minimum XP Project" i've done a bit of tweaking to winamp lite... it was created for a CarPC project of mine and it works nice But other than that, on my main desktop, i'm using WA5, with a pioneer cd skin
  8. Ok, some people may be confused about the winamp lite thing... basically its winamp lite lite... all the crap has been removed from winamp using good ol' reshack , and all the basic functions are there, playlist, equalizer and of course only mp3 support So yeah I'm also working on making windows faster by using reshack (editing dialogs and such) to make it minimal
  9. Well you know what, here goes... If I get banned for this... be it that way I've done this method and installed it on a 512mb CF card for my CarPC project (anybody willing to donate me a lcd screen ) and since i've tried multiple music players (musikcube, 1by1, apollo, winamp, fb2k) i've stuck with winamp because purely that i have made it small... the smallest I can get it without messing up the player completly... Now I DO want this in the minimum XP project thread, because I think its handy to have a small media player, thats very stable, and neat So here it is... Winamp Lite http://rapidshare.de/files/2122385/Winamp_Lite.zip.html

  15. On my test machines, I format them about once a week or two.. depends when I feel like it On my MAIN machine... Formatted that about 2 and a half years ago ! LOL The reason being is that, try formatting 1.8TB !! No thankyou (and yes, I know I could partition the windows installation and just format that, but lets not go into that shall we)
  16. I love Gaim, but Gaim is really a Nix product, I have it on my Nix Box and its awesome ! Of course it has Windows support and everything, but yeah.
  17. I got my mirandaIM the way I want it to work Only takes up about 3.5-4mb of resources I use it for MSN/YAHOO/AIM/ICQ No Games/No Nudges/No Crap = Good And thats my two cents.
  18. For the Eject icon in the System Tray, what I did was copy a certain file from Win2K to XP and the checkbox for hiding the icon was there... I'm not at home right now, but when I do, I'll scrounge up the file for you and tell you what it is
  19. I just said to it "Meh" and it said "I can't reply to that" LOL !
