Well, removing WMP is not allways removing only WMP... Due to the massive userbase Nihu has to cater for there is a good chance that some other things has had to be taken out to keep some users combination of components working. This user can very well be fine with removing WMP and the add let's say kLite pack, simply because he might have removed a component that turned out to be dependent of those "extra" files that Nuhi had to remove when removing WMP. And here we touch the cause why I've been bitching about Nuhi beeing a tightass about giving info of what gets removed, he gathers info but never let's it out. As long as this is the case we will never see any real improvments. Personally I'm fine, my knowledge stretches a bit further than what button does what in vlite, but I feel for the common users here. But I agree in the sense that sometime the users gets too "triggerhappy" in their "vliteclicking" OS modding. Again, the users would benefit and learn whats really is going on under the hood if the author of vlite shared the info with them. All would benefit and progress would be made. Like it used to be...

And helping out without using "polite.exe" really ain't nice either. I've been at this game far more long than you, but I still haven't reverted to beeing unpolite to people in need of advice. And speaking of advice, I'm quite sick of seeing people questioning peoples choices and refusing to give advice in the direction asked for. Shape up! OMG Clint chill! They only "Slow" down your system when you use them. This is all really moot anyways because vLite was not made for Windows7 and people should stop complaining when an app made for OTHER OS'es doesn't work right on the OS that is still a BETA... Taken the content and insight of his posts, and the simple fact that I've pretty much all the time been ahead of the author of vlite. I did howerever not say ALL of you in ALL aspects, nice try though... That aside, I see too much posts stating "why do you want to to that?" or "that OS is not meant for this purpose"...and other in those lines. The backbone of tweaking, ripping and minimizing OS's is the curiosity and willingness to experiment. That is the exact same cause that lead nlite and vlite to surface. From what I've understand the dude is studying at university. Perhaps he is catching up on exams or doing a Phd or something. The fella has given a lot of his time for little to nothing in return, so go easy on him. Even though him and me hasn't been at best terms over the years I still can recognize his efforts, and maybe need for a break.

No wonder it failed. Thats why NEVER remove everything from server or else it will fail. Server is different compare to vista when it comes to vlite. Removing certain components causes server not to install. Even if you dont remove too many components and succesfully install it, then server "add features and add roles" will fail to install its features or roles as well. Only 3 or 4 components can be removed safely. btw when vliting server, vlite gives you a warning when you select "componenets" something like this, "removing components can break add features" My advice is, do not remove anything if your planning to use server features, as server is not bloated compare to vista, you can remove certain stuffs and it will work fine, but might cause problems later. Tweaking server with vlite is safe. How many features is removed and whatnot has absolutely nothing to do with that the file copy part fails. The disc has most certainly been badly burned, burn a new one at slower speed. Do not give advice or such if you don't know what you are talking about. I know exactly what am talking about. So I hope you can now see, that if file copy fails it has nothing to do with components removed. Instead of simply base your 'knowledge' on results from clicking vlite buttons, do some reading and try to understand what is going on in the system. Well, it can be done actually...so go easy with the guy. The problem is to manage to install it on 128MB due to the image boot.wim that is loaded in memory at boot. If you have an unmodded boot.wim you cannot get under ~200MB memoryusage at boot, because that is what the image of boot.wim will need to fit in the RAM. I have succeeded to install 2008 (don't care about Vista) on 64MB RAM, but then with an somewhat different approach. If you use an Linux boot disc with the imaging util and the install.wim image it's just a matter of a simple menu and a few lines of code and it will install in a few minutes. I've run an 2008 box on 128MB RAM for quite some time now and it runs just perfect (even though XP/2003 will allways be the better choice)

My ISP will cut me off for 24 hours if I reach a total of 15GB in datatransfer (DL+UL), and that is really painful! Now, what I'm looking for is a util that can keep track of the amount of data transferred and cut off connection when too close to limit. There is plenty of bandwidthlimiters around, but I cannot find anything that controls the amount of data transferred. Anyone? Thanks in advance!

Really?? If 'you don't use' ImageX in vlite, why does vlite request you to install the wim filter (wimfltr.sys) then??? The wim filters presence are solely for the functionality of ImageX...or??

Hmm, you can't expect ppl to jump on this like they have nothing else to do...be patient and wait a day or 3 before you make a comment like that. Even though I have my differenses with Nuhi I know he is giving a lot of his free time to develop this, so if he is spending weeks and months on this for you...you maybe could wait a few days for him.?? But to answer your questions: I guess vlite takes time because it has to 'rebuild' the whole structure, meaning copy all files to another location and then back again. (sorta) It is a bit quicker to do it manually, but it still involves the extracting of content to a new structure. I hope this made you a bit more patient with the wait involved, and maybe learned to be a bit more patient yourself.

..or simply ask nuhi which files that is removed when you remove IE..., wouldnt that save a bunch of time?? But if you think it's fun to install multiple setups and do comparisons and whatnot, instead of simply asking the guy who is actually the one who decided wich files to remove....by all means have fun

Yup, this issue has been there since first release. It's related to removing one of the components. Try to add a new user and set user rights, that will open your eyes. Crappy indeed...

Actually the best you can do is to remove your harddrive and then install XP on another laptop that has the same ACPI HAL (look it up). After you have installed XP on the other laptop (no need for drivers and such) simply use Sysprep (look it up) and make sure to set option reset SID (The security ID). Using Sysprep is only a matter of drop two files (free from MS) in a specific directory on your C drive and click'em, it takes 15 seconds and it's done...very simple. After that you simply drop back the harddrive in your own laptop and start it up. You will go through a simplified setup and enter key and such again, but the install will be flawless. This is the by far 'cleanest' method you can use
