  1. Sounds cool to me, I can't see any threatening EULA or such in there. Thanks for uploading this, you are very resourceful I see.
  2. It's just too new a format to be supported by anything but Winzip right now I guess.
  3. Unlike the 98DDK which can be found, the 95DDK has never been a free download. It was only available for download to MSDN subscribers and AFAIK it is nowhere to be found on the entire internet including file sharing networks. I don't think you can even get it by buying old MSDN CDs or such because I believe it was a download only. As for the 98DDK, if you don't have it and you want it, you can follow some links in this thread : http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=135527
  4. Very odd but this patch thing in DrWatson is gone now even though I still have the GDIMaxHeapSize setting in win.ini and I am certain of what I reported the other day about it
  5. Free Corel Paint Shop Pro X : http://apps.corel.com/lp/lexar/4157/index.html Installer fails after extracting because of not having at least 2K SP3 as an OS. I could not find what to edit in the msi so I did put setup.exe in 2k compatibility and then I could install normally after skipping an error message. Once installed I have removed all microsoft runtimes files from the install dir before I even tried running it so if it ever doesn't run for you you may want to try this. It does also install two files in the system dir, psiservice.exe and psiclient.dll. You can get rid of the exe but you must keep the dll (which can be moved to psp install dir) otherwise the soft won't run. Edit : Sorry you can get rid of psiclient.dll as well, it is psikeys.dll which must be kept and this one is already in the psp dir if I recall correctly. I am not sure but perhaps it would run even without KernelEx. Seems like it is the full version and it appears to be just a little bit of a cosmetic update over Jasc Paint Shop Pro 9. Everything works OK as far as I can see. I have used it for several hours yesterday and it runs perfectly. There is a nag screen on exit suggesting to upgrade to the next version but this can be easily removed by following the instructions on this page : http://www.winmatrix.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=23630 BTW, no need to leave your real details at the download page if you don't want to as you get the download link directly in your browser. Direct link for the english version actually : http://www.corel.com/akdlm/6763/downloads/...EXAR_Retail.exe A few extra tubes and textures etc... here as well : http://www.corel.com/akdlm/6763/downloads/...PX_RegXtras.exe Very cool, especially if you only have MS-Paint so far as an image editor.
  6. no wonder. Win9x systems can't recognize NTFS formatted hard disks without third party NTFS drivers like Winternals NTFS for Win98. Or the free Paragon NTFS for Win 98 in case you've missed it. http://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-...8/download.html
  7. Why don't you just right-click on it and delete it ? Aren't you able to do that for some reason ? BTW you can have more than 5 backups if you edit scanreg.ini
  8. Flash 10 also works perfectly in Opera 9.64 here. Try it in Opera.
  9. Download Unicows here : http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/7...642/unicows.exe Install it and then instal KernelEx and that's it. PS : Maybe you want to have a look at the Unofficial Windows ME service pack as well if you want to update your system.
  10. I was wondering where this thread had gone and then I forgot about it. I'll have few things to answer later after reading it all again in more depth.
  11. I don't have RP9 installed right now so I would not think it is RP9 who does it. This message seems related to have a GDIMaxHeapSize entry in win.ini or not. What I meant to say by reporting this is that setting an entry for GDIMaxHeapSize seems to actually do something in the system (its job of increasing the size of the 32bit GDI heap I guess), but that it is less certain to me that setting USERMaxHeapSize does anything at all as I can't see any visible change.
  12. I have been experimenting a bit with GDIMaxHeapSize and USERMaxHeapSize. Setting a value for GDIMaxHeapSize in win.ini results in DrWatson reporting after reboot that <unknown> has altered Windows system files. In the Patches tab it says that the module display has been patched in memory by <unknown>. Setting a value for USERMaxHeapSize in either the registry as indicated or in win.ini in the same section as GDIMaxHeapSize yelds nothing that I can see.
  13. If you don't use IE (or any app that embeds it's engine such as Explorer, Outlook, mshta or hh) for going online and that those applications are additionally blocked by your firewall, then you should never need to bother anymore with any newly discovered activeX vulns IMO. Any flaw in that reasoning ?
  14. You don't want to put that burden on Tihiy do you ? I think the time he devotes to windows 9x is much better employed at coding than at him managing/updating the stickies, etc... If I'd have to candidate one single person it would be dencorso but the reason why I suggested 5/6 new "mods" is because I thought it would allow to not put any heavy pressure on anyone while keeping on improving on it nicely. I don't believe that ringing smods who have no apparent interest in 9x related matters to update/modify stickies here will yeld much improvement. Anyway I think stickies should be reorganized somehow so that they become yet better hubs for the essential and useful information. Perhaps we should discuss that in another thread and if we agree about a layout and its content we could just whistle a smod and then he'd do it. Anyway eager to read the opinion of others on all that, including Bristols who got the party started.
  15. Installed Acrobat Professional 6 this morning and it crashes in msi.dll when I enable 2K compatibility mode. If AIOD.dll (Adobe Install On Demand) is not present the crash does not occur and Acrobat launches normally. 2K mode allows Acrobat to run the Preflight plugin. I am in no need for a fix as it's perfectly fine without AOID but I thought that was maybe an interesting error so here is a DrWatson crash log : http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?in2ymmyzrzm
  16. Acrobat 6 Professional : I have bought a boxed Adobe Design Collection which includes Acrobat 6 Professional on eBay last week (£20 including post and packaging, bargain of the year, no typo). I've just received it this morning. Of the 4 bundled apps only Acrobat 6 Professional don't want to install on 9x so here goes : Copy install folder on hdd. Open msi installer with Orca and drop rows UnSupportedOS (9x) in both InstallExecuteSequence and InstallUISequence sections like you'd do for the Adobe Reader 7. Then you can run setup as normal. The reason it is not compatible with 9x oses seems to be the bundled Preflight plugin which does not want to run because it says it wants an Unicode system. After putting Acrobat in 2K compatibility mode with a view to enabling the Preflight plugin I found out Acrobat was crashing in msi.dll on launch. I could fix this easily by removing the file AIOD.dll (Adobe Install On Demand) from the Esl folder which is itself located in the Acrobat 6 root directory. Then Acrobat 6 Professional launches normally and the Preflight plug seems to work fine : Cool!
  17. Again you are escaping the points. The question whether there are to many or too few stickies is irrelevant. The issue is who is managing/improving those stickies right now and the answer to that question is that no one currently does. Is it so difficult to understand what the issue is really about ?
  18. I am pleased to report that KernelEx runs rock stable here. It took me a while to assess that as I was plagued since around the time I installed it by some nasty stability issues which I have now all fixed without removing KernelEx. Occasional freeze on boot remains despite that but they are rare since I enabled bootlog so this is no big deal at all. Great job
  19. Are you going to update/modify stickies on demand as well ? Anyway one can't talk with those who do not want to hear and escape the points with silly answers. Have a nice day
  20. That's only wishfull thinking isnt'it ? And the issue do not primarily revolves around law and order IMO even if the thread has drifted in a way that just this aspect of moderating powers is being considered by most of those who have posted it seems. I'd be curious to know why Bristols opened this very pertinent topic because I don't think he primarily had spam issues in mind.
  21. Well that is good only if someone wants to call the "police" isn't it ?. I don't think it applies when it comes to managing stickies for example, especially that most (all?) currently active moderators have barely an interest in 9x related matters and have IMO way less clues as to what would be good/not good when it comes to that than the serious 9x subforums regulars.
  22. Allright I have thought about it a bit and I am of the opinion that 5/6 regulars of the 9x forums should become moderator.
  23. This maybe an off-topic question but, Why is there an Opera icon with "banned" symbol in your... you know, avatar? are they some sort of people you don't trust because? or that browser has something wrong with it which is? One of the first thing to do is to use the search button for answers first (and you'll find it) instead of going grossly off-topic in what could be seen as an attempt to trash this thread. Perhaps I should apply to become a MSFN mod
  24. Not that bad is it or have I missed something ? I for one would certainly like to sticky some more threads or even create some from scratch perhaps.
