    BSOD Windows 7

I think I found the problem, not 100% sure. It maybe due to the wireless card that I had. It was the Linksys WMP54g v4.1, it didn't have Windows 7 drivers so I used XP/Vista compatible drivers instead. May have been that. Took it out and haven't had any BSOD's yet. I'll update the BIOS and check the driver verifier, didn't know something like that existed! Thanks, and will get back to you.

    BSOD Windows 7

Hey, I've had this problem for a while now. I bought the system components about an year ago and it's been having problems on and off. The parts were recommended from members here, so thought I should ask here to see if anyone can come up with a solution. Error: My components are: Moterboard: Asus P7H55-M CPU: Intel Core i5 CPU 750 @ 2.67GHz, Socket 1156 LGA Memory: Corsair XMS3 HDD: Seagate ST3500418AS PSU: OCZ: 550W GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5750 I've done memory test overnight, passed. Did an HDD test, passed. Minidump file: http://www.mediafire.com/?5lxz6xu4jk2u9xi Thanks for the help!
  3. Bumping this topic as it has really stumped me. Still no solution to this problem. I've RMA'd the video card and the memory and still having problem. It took a while because I just got the memory back, and still in the same situation. Only parts that are left are the power supply, motherboard and the hard drive. I did keep getting a hard drive needs to be checked for consistency lately, so would it be the hdd? I'm wasting so much time and money on this, and have no clue what's going on. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
  4. Short of trying this card in another computer, which I don't have, I think I've done everything else. I'll be RMA'ing it soon. Thanks.
  5. Sorry to get back to you late, just had time to get to work on this. I ran the memtest for 2 days straight, and it ran without any errors. I set up the timings manually, and followed the workaround on that KB article. The computer hasn't restarted since I ran the memtest though, but the video card problem still exists. As soon as I install the video drivers, be it for Win 7, Vista, XP, it automatically restarts when it hits the welcome screen. I'm trying to get it replaced. Is there anything else I can try?
  6. Thanks for the replies. I started to run the memtest, and i'll follow the KB article after it's done. Why does the computer restart as soon as the video card drivers are installed though? Are these just 2 unrelated problems?
  7. Hello, I have a problem with my computer at the moment. Started about 2 weeks ago out of the blue. I keep getting a kernel power error and the system restarts at random times. I am able to get into safe mode, and I took a screen shot of the error. The actual error message doesn't help, but it keeps happening after an RTL8167 Warning, so that might be a clue. What I've done: I Installed new thermal paste for the CPU heat sink, since it was a bit dry. Disabled Realtek Onboard LAN, & Realtek Onboard HD Sound, and another HD Audio in device manager. I reinstalled windows and installed the motherboard drivers from the CD that came with it. When I installed the video card drivers, it automatically restarted again. I tried the drivers from the CD, drivers from XFX and through windows update. All did the same, so I uninstalled all the drivers and left it at VGA default drivers. It didn't restart for a couple of days, but it restarted again with the default drivers. I tried this with Windows 7 x64 & x32 and Windows XP. After installing the drivers it automatically restarted. Any ideas? bad video card? or the drivers? or something else? Help please, Thank you.
  8. About the IEEE, ya I don't know why it was on the case. I've never had a use for it, nor do I even know anyone who would use it. @bone & Zens the notua is a little out of my price range, well not little, a lot lol. I read the reviews on the CM and it seems to be nice. Now just wondering if I should actually get it cause I've already built it. lol
  9. -Bump- So I got this all built up and installed, and have a couple of questions. There's an IEEE 1394 on the case, and I can't find any connection on the motherboard. Not that it has any use for him, but I would just like to know how or if I can connect it to that mobo. Can you point me to a good cooler? I'm looking at this one. http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=41337
  10. I don't think he needs xp 64, I was just asking why lol. He already has a legal copy of Vista, just not willing to pay for windows 7 at the moment.
  11. Okay, thanks, i'll watch out for the cover. I didn't order that case online and got it at a store instead, and ordered an HTPC case for myself from there since they had it and the store didn't. It was actually cheaper there too, so it was good. Why not XP 64? I was going to install Vista 64. He's not willing to invest in Win 7 atm, so eh.

Any objections/suggestions? The hard drive I have is : http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=360...mp;promoid=1061 So I don't think I have a problem with that. Also forgot to mention, will I have any problem installing an x64 version of windows?
  13. Thank you, but I'm still sticking with the intel choice for the cpu. You can say I'm a fan of it, but until I learn a bit more about AMD I'll be sticking with intel for now. So I'll be looking at what Coffee suggested, and thanks Punto for the reply. I am liking the case you pointed out, might go into a store to look at that. Option v2 looks nice, and yes, I do already have a dvd drive around. ~50$ over or under is fine really, 700$ wasn't set in stone, but I definitely didn't want to go into the 900's or 1k. The video card you suggested is way more than what he needs really, I myself have a a very old 7600GT and we've pretty much played the same games together sometimes and had no trouble, so I don't think I need to go to an AMD build to save money for the video card. Anywho thanks, I'll look into it and reply back tomorrow.
  14. The price difference is probably due to the fact that ncix lists canadian prices and newegg.com lists u.s prices. can someone find me a good motherboard under 150$ I'm thinking of getting this Mobo Something under 150$ Powersupply http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=452...mp;promoid=1061 Memory http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=425...mp;promoid=1061 Video card anything under 100$ should be fine.
  15. Thanks for the replies, and I've read everything here, and I'd like to stick to my two picks regarding the case and CPU. I've bought the case before and for the price I loved it so I'll be buying that again. I also like to buy new parts, I don't like to buy used parts online because of the hassle it bring in case it doesn't work. I would also like to buy it in one store as I don't want to pay shipping from two different stores and I trust ncix since I've bought them from before. Anyway, someone care to choose a motherboard for me? I just set 700$ because I don't want the latest and greatest computer but I suppose it can vary a little bit. I don't want something that's non-upgradable. Thanks! As for gaming, I was thinking of games like star wars lego, the old nfs games, mmos. He definitely doesn't play crysis and w/e games that need a 500$ video card. So any video card under 100$ will be more than adequate.
  16. Hello, I'm trying to build a computer for a friend of mine for under 700$. He's a gamer but not a heavy gamer that needs the latest and greatest. Something that's upgradable in the future also. Stuff I don't need are: Monitor Hard drive Keyboard/mouse Operating System [depending on budget, might buy Windows 7] So far I have the case & cpu Antec Three Hundred Mini Tower Gaming Case 300 ATX 3X5.25 6X3.5INT No PS Front USB & Audio. $57.99 http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...nufacture=Antec Intel Core i5 750 Quad Core Processor Lynnfield LGA1156 2.66GHZ 8MB Cache Retail Box $234.99 http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=424...nufacture=Intel I'm mainly looking for a good motherboard, power supply, memory & video card. yes, for those who visit ncix, there's also a post there about this.
  17. The order would be: AppleApplicationSupport.msi /qn AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi /qn MobileMe.msi /qn AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi qn Quicktime.msi /qn Bonjour.msi /qn iTunes.msi /qn
  18. How can I activate XP without calling MS all the time? I'm running XP SP3 Pro. I tried backing up the wpa file, but when I install XP it comes up with a popup that says windows is not activated, please log off. Searched a ton, no info other than the one I mentioned.
  19. http://www.wincert.net/forum/index.php?/to...date-pack-v290/ Download that. It has post sp3 updates + IE8 + WIMP11 + .net framework 1.1 + a bunch of other things. See the log. I think this would be the easiest method for you, less hassle and comes with everything.
  20. For some reason I find that it doesn't work while it's on a CD/DVD. What I do is zip it up and burn it on the dvd, then get WPI to extract it into C drive, then install it from there then delete the folder.
  21. it should be in the prefs.js folder in C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\abcdef.default. Just import that after an install or include that in the install.
  22. just insert C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Temp\test\name_of_bat_file.bat you can also do it in winrar when you create the sfx file, in the Advanced tab, under setup program, you can run something after extraction.
  23. Hate to ask again...but uh does someone have this still?
  24. Maybe it's the "+" sign. put "and" or something. I try not to use variables like that because they're usually assigned for something else.
