  1. you might be able to download a trial version from ms.
  2. check the ram ,then the motherboard try disabling the usb in the cmos first before anything else. i worked on a pc with a bad usb that caused similar problems.
  3. might be a scratched or bad cd. a weak or cheap cdrom/dvd player could cause it also.
  4. there is a program named "deluser" that will remove the additional accounts.
  5. i have tried WindowsX xpconv. it seems to work well and a little faster than xp. nlite and virtual pc run on it, i don't use the other apps you listed. i prefer to use ghost 2003 which runs on w2k3 workstation.
  6. right click on WPI.HTA click on "Open With" browse to window\system32\mshta.exe click on mshta.exe. click "ok" check the little box "always open with" so the it will open automatically next time. i wish there was a better way to start wpi but there's not.
  7. beware of the yahoo toolbar if you install it silently. you will have no option not to unstall it.
  8. i agree with all the ghost 2003 comments. it's fast and easy. i imaged a linux hdd from my windows box with ghost. windows couldn't read the drive and wanted to format it but i wouldn't let. i just started ghost, told it to image the linux hard drive{i had slaved it and placed it in my windows box}, and ghost did the rest. an amazing piece of software.
  9. thanks. i really like this program. please continue with your excellant work.
  10. _www.clarkconnect.org free home version. lots of options.
  11. hope this project works out. i'm behind a linux router so a firewall is no problem for me. also, since i don't use i.e. or outlook, an anti-virus program is not needed. NeX should make a good shell with low resources.
  12. NeX looks the best of all, so far.
  13. deathwarder: clarkconnect is an os based on linux. i am running one now as a firewall/router/intrusion detector. i've used it since version 0.70. i won't gp on the net without it.
  14. removing i.e. is always a plus for me. it uses too many resources, too buggy, and too big a securty risk. would win2k appliance server kit would be of any use?
  15. the hardware support is limited. it would be best to check your hardware for compatibility before purchase.
  16. it will run on virtual pc for windows 5.2
  17. that's a great speed for dial-up. the best i ever got was 3.6k.
  18. if you are using penetcfg , add or modify entries the appropriate .ini file in the penetcfg plugin folder. not sure are the cd eject other than it can be done.
  19. if i disable dhcp and use static i.p.'s on my lan is messes up file sharing and the ablility to "see" other pc's. a reach is nessisary to find which pc's are online.
  20. copy the nic drivers into the "drivers\Net" folder of pebuilder before you compile. pebuilder will copy them to system32.
  21. just watching win2k boot up it seems to me that it take a very long time to get the networking connections established. i wonder how much difference there is between win2k and xp with the networking systems and could they be exchanged. i've manually copied the xp ntldr and NTDETECT.COM into and installed win2k and noticed a very slight improvement in boot times but i have no idea how to do this during an install.
  22. the long boot delay is really a pain. i wouldn't know were to begin to fix it but it would be a worth while project.
  23. thanks. this could be a big time saver.
  24. the way i did it was to extract the drivers from the cabs and paste them in the "drivers" folder of the pebuilder directory. pebuilder will slipstream them into the system32 folder automatically. the driver sets that produce errors because of missing files will have to be repaired or deleted. this way makes your iso large but there was plenty of room on the cd and my main goal was to add driver support for my bartpe cd.
  25. i have been playing with this for 2 days with not results. i want to use bartpe but i keep getting the same error. "Setup was unable to build the list of files to be copied. The data is invalid" i tried "diegostart" ,it worked but would required me to rebuild my bartpe with some programs i don't like. there are 2 other "plugins" for bart's i have tried but i keeping getting the same error. i tried using a .bat file with same results. i am using a nlited cd and my winnt.sif as an answer file. here is my winnt.sif: [Data] Autopartition=1 MsDosInitiated="0" UnattendedInstall=Yes [unattended] UnattendMode=FullUnattended UnattendSwitch=Yes OemPreinstall=Yes OemSkipEula=Yes Size1=* PartitionType1=primary Filesystem1=NTFS QuickFormat1=yes UnattendSwitch=Yes WaitForReboot=No NoWaitAfterTextMode=1 NoWaitAfterGUIMode=1 TargetPath=Windows DriverSigningPolicy=Ignore NonDriverSigningPolicy=Ignore KeyboardLayout=US Hibernation=No [GuiUnattended] AdminPassword="open" AutoLogon=Yes TimeZone=020 OemSkipWelcome=1 OEMSkipRegional=1 [Components] Indexsrv_system=Off OEAccess=off Accessopt=off AutoUpdate=off hypertrm=off rec=off vol=Yes WmdmdmPmSp=off upnphost=off BITS=off Alerter=off ERSvc=off helpsvc=off cisvc=No TerminalServer=Off [userData] ProductID= "" ComputerName= * FullName="xx" [TapiLocation] CountryCode=1 AreaCode=405 [RegionalSettings] InputLocale=40A LanguageGroup=1 Language=0409 SystemLocale=1 UserLocale=1 [Networking] InstallDefaultComponents=Yes [LocalService] WebClient=Off [netsvcs] W32Time=Off wuauserv=Off anyone have any suggestions?
