  1. do you need the exe files aswell or just the msp files alone..? Dont worry ive answered this myself. old office updates use to have more than just the msp file so wasnt sure I need to extract all the other bits. Ive seen now there i noyl the msp files in these exe's if you exclude the txt file. ive run that uniextractor 1.5 but all it does is errors. ive extracted them via batch file for now.
  2. need i need to extract all the files from within the exe files & storte these in sub folders of "Updates" or do i just need the msp files..? where Do i need to place the msp files?
  3. may of found the problem. The config.xml file didnt have the line to look for update files. <SetupUpdates CheckForSUpdates="Yes" SUpdateLocation="\\server1\office\updates;\\server2\corpdata\updates" /> refrenced from this page. http://technet2.microsoft.com/Office/en-us...3.mspx?mfr=true
  4. office 2007 opens previous versions documents without a problem so why go to the hasle of converting them. let the documents convert when you update & resave.
  5. Hi Guys, ive read you can just copy the office updates to the updates folder on your network source & they will automatically get installed when office is installed. Ive copied several office updates to my updates folder & installed office 2007 on a fresh machine but no updates got applied. Checked in Add/remove programs & office online checker. his is what the readme.txt file says in the updates folder "Any patches placed in this folder will be applied during initial install." here are the file names of some of the updates I have in my folder office2007-kb936960-fullfile-x86-glb.exe office2007-kb936514-fullfile-x86-glb.exe office2007-kb933688-fullfile-x86-glb.exe why have they not applied.? I am using an MSP Answer file to automate the installation but cannot se anywhere in the office custom installation wizard to turn on or off the updates.
  6. UAC is a pain. you have to disable it to install some applications. mcafee Virus scan enteprise 8.5i is one of many.
  7. for those who want to know what settings you need to set in the answer file to disable instant search here they are..
  8. bj-kaiser, that looks a little complex for me.
  9. not having authentication is dangerous. At present if i activate the two otions in WDS a student could 12 to boot from PXE & install vista or they could boot to VistaPE & have full control over the hard drive on that PC without needing to authenticate. This is not very secure.
  10. I knew it would be an easy fix. When I updated my source with the beta 4 files i forgot to update the MyFilePath in ImageX.hta. 1. Can this my file path be set to z:\ or does it have to have a folder name z:\folder\ with a backslash at the end..? 2. I havent played with it all yet but is there the facility to delete images from within a wim file of multiple images..? 3. Can you clange the font of the Select File:, Select image to Apply: or put a space between the last letter & the : ive got good eyes but the : looks like its another leter of the word in front that is not complete. the two dots seem to also merge a little into each other. 4. map network window is still going to far into the top left corner & i cannot move it. 5. Anychance of the shutdown having two option shutdown or reboot.? im lazy & cant be arsed to get up & press the power button to switch unit back on.
  11. Hi geezery, Sorry ive got back to you late with testing ive been busy. ive now setup my PE & ImageX GUI to run from WDS. 1. GUI loads ok but i get a windows (Select location of *.wim files) browse box apear asking to specify path to WIM files. I never useto get this with 0.32. i currently map a z: drive in startnet.cmd before the GUI loads. 2. When I press the map network drive button you have the window goes so far in the top left i can see only the right end of the bottom input box. i cannot move this window around to view it all.
  12. When running in mixed mode your first menu gives you Vista Longhorn install (X86) Windows PE (X86) RIS If you select RIS it takes you to your old blue screens & asks you to enter your account to authenticate. if you take one of the other two options you can install vista or boot to PE without being asked to authenticate. How can I set these so an Authentication box apears..? the reason i want this as if you boot to PE you can access everything on the C drive of that PC.
  13. ive got it working now.. you need to add the Boot.wim boot image which them puts the PXEboot.com & other boot files in place.
  14. Hi All, SP2 & updates have been installed. RIS no longer runs as the remote installation service has been taken over by WDS. The service still remains but you cannot start it. I have initialised WDS with the following command WDSUTIL /initialize-server /reminst:"e:\RemoteInstall". I have right clicked on my server in the WDS utility & strted the service. PXE Properties are set to answer to know devices as i prestage them in AD. When I boot a PC via PXE WDS is not responding to my PXE request. What could the problem be..?
  15. Ive found the user settings in office customisation wizard to remove the instant search installation buttons etc.
  16. you dont slipstream updats in with office 2007. you place the updates in an updates folder & they get installed during setup. Office 2007 dosent install with an administrative install like previous offices so the installation files are kept locally on the machine once its installed.
  17. is it me or is there no find/Search for emails in your mailbox. Seems as if you have to install the instant search bit which installs windows desktop search 3.01. anyone else noticed this and an easy way round this buy not having to install the desktop search tool.?
  18. have a read of this it may help. Its from the RSS fead below I found & its a MS guys reply to a similar problem. http://forums.microsoft.com/technet/rss.as...1&siteid=17
  19. Im willing to test the new developments.
  20. Its me again... Right. i want sysprep to run minisetup & I want to be prompted for computer name & domain credentials for technicians to enter there logins to join the machine to the domain. So far ive got the machine prompting for computer name which is right. ive set the domain in the sysprep.xml with no credentials but it dosent prompt me for credentials & dosent make any attempt at joining my domain. All I get once i login as a local user is it asking me the Home,WORK, private bit i have already answered in my answer file. does anyone have the solution to me being prompted for domain credentials for the PC to join the domain during mini setup? ive done it previously with XP by just leaving those fields blank but it dosent seem to act the same with Vista.
  21. Yipppppeeeeee Ive solved sysprep putting back in the US keyboard etc during the automated minisetup. I steared clear of what the documentation said about putting ie en-US for the languages & put in what I had in my old XP sysprep.inf the country code for UK ie 000809. This should work for any of you out there who are having similar problems with other conuntry codes. here is my sysprep.xml with the lines so you can see. <component name="Microsoft-Windows-International-Core" processorArchitecture="x86" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"> <UserLocale>00000809</UserLocale> <UILanguageFallback></UILanguageFallback> <UILanguage>00000809</UILanguage> <InputLocale>0809:00000809</InputLocale> <SystemLocale>00000809</SystemLocale> </component> havent tried it on Autounattended.xml yet. it didnt work on XP unattended so i dont expect this to work on Vista unattended install. only worked with sysprep on XP. Worth a try for anyone in a possision to test.
  22. I found this for manually copying language settings to the default user account. http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/e...b0921c1033.mspx just need to sort out sysprep now from restoring the bloody US bits.
  23. you can get round XP HAL's but its much easier to RISETUP with XP on ris. switching to WDS i will go mixed mode so i still have the RISSETUP capability as once you go native WDS you only get Image capabilty with WIM images. Does BBD2007 link in with WDS or they similar but seperately used products..? Im looking at going to the new SMS (System Centre configuration manager 2007)
  24. So far ive done a manual install & set the keyboard etc how i wanted it. When I run sysprep with generalize it puts back this bloody US keyboard. Im running the key mentioned above in my sysprep but no accounts are having the US keyboard removed. XP Sysprep never restored the US keyboard so once it was removed on the install sysprep was ok. Vista seems to be a right pain in the butt with regard to sysprep. Also, I have got my domain set to join but with no credentials. ive done this so it prompts for the credential during mini setup but vista sysprep just dosent ask & carries on not joining a domain. i done this with XP & it worked OK.
