  1. here is my working Sif file if it helps.. (Key & passwords removed) i would sugest using Autoimage to integrate BTS driver packs into your RIS images. Works ok for me. Also Autoimage has a Text mode driver pack for NICs.
  2. copy these text mode drivers to your i386 directory. They have been edited to work in RIS/WDS. http://www.doitrightconsulting.net/forum/v...p?f=2&t=315
  3. just a tad. My RIS is Fully automated with integrated drivers, updates & software such as Office 2007,Mcafee,Adobe reader 8.0. A complete Automated RIS install on a new dell will take around 45-60mins depending on the network. To do this by CD & manually install the updates drivers & software would take around 4-5 hours.
  4. use Autoimage to integrate BTS Driver packs into your RIS images. this will give you all the drivers you need plus integrate NIC & Mass storage drivers into txt mode part of RIS for you.
  5. I think you refering to text mode drivers. Drivers which run at the blue screen stage(partition & copy down installation files) before you see any Xp installtion screens..? have you tired Roguespears text mode drivers for RIS..? Just overwrite exisitng files in i386 directory & try. http://www.doitrightconsulting.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=315
  6. I must say ive not noticed any Intel dsriver issues with RIS. Are you refering to Text mode drivers or XP Drivers..?
  7. Dragsterp, Sorry i cannot help you with this but can only advise you like i was advised when trying to get riprep working. use RISSetup images to install your machines its far more universal & can be easily tailored to your needs. I apologise if you think this is loads of work & not what you need(a quick fix for riprep) but believe me it will save you hours of problems in the long run. regards Chiners_68
  8. Jonone, I prestage my RIS PCs for RIS in AD. Create a computer acount of your choice & add the GUID to the correct window when creating the account. I then boot to PXE & RIS menues apear. if i dont have the GUID's set on an account in AD then PXE will not boot to RIS for that PC. ddiferent, Use Autoimage to modify your existing RIS image as it will let you integrate full driver packs & Windows updates. Autoimage - http://www.doitrightconsulting.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3 BTS Driverpacks - http://www.driverpacks.net/ RyanVM update packs - http://www.ryanvm.net/msfn/
  9. Ive had a read around but there dosent apear to be an easy way to set this like in the sif file. looks like you may need to edit each drivers inf file & set these to 100FD. ref http://www.msfn.org/board/NIC-speed-PE-v12-t109357.html or export a registry from preset PCs so you can reimport the registry keys for that specific vendor. http://www.msfn.org/board/lofiversion/index.php/t56017.html
  10. im sure you can set this in your answer file under networking. have a look here at the references.. http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/19/
  11. If you want to go to WDS you will need to go Mixed mode not native. if you go Native you lose legacy RISSetup image support & you wont be able to unattended install XP as is best with RIS. You will only be able to creat WIM images of XP machines & install from this in native mode. You will then hit HAL issues that you get with riprep. Im setup in mixed mode WDS but at present i dont use WDS for Vista as were not deploying or installing that for a long time. its slow & Pooh.
  12. Res settings in the sif files dont always work. I use a programe called reschange.exe(http://12noon.com/reschange.htm) which i set to change the res on first login to XP which is executed from my RunonceEX.cmd file. I have the exe file located in my RIS image in $OEM$, $$, System32 so it gets copied to the PC. I then execute this in my runonceEX.cmd file hope this helps
  13. Autoimage - http://www.doitrightconsulting.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3 this software will is the main package. this will grap your ris image, integrate RVM update packs to give you latest updates & integrate BTS driverpacks & copy the relvaent drivers into txtmode for you. 14. Ive just downloaded Nlite so that was a coincidence. Wasnt aware of office shrinker. Does this only shrink the installation source or the actual installation size?
  15. easy fix. endtask the Svhost.exe running at 99% in task manager 1. Stop the 'Automatic Update' service 2. Delete the folder %WINDIR%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore 3. Start the 'Automatic Update' service reboot & all should be ok.
  16. Hi All, Ive got an Asus Eee PC which needs a small version of XP. These Small notebooks only come with a 4GB(Actially about 3.7GB) drive. Ive installed Xp office 2003 updates etc etc & only have 400MB free. What is the best guide for reducing the size of XP for this device?.
  17. I was refering to Microsoft RIS. If you use the odd 3rd part application which fellow MSFN members have created, im sure it will aid in what your trying to acheive & make your life easier. If I handnt listened to members on this forum years back i would still be struggerling. using RipRep is a waste of time as you cannot get it to go across multiple hardware easily. if you use RIS Setup instead you can create installation images. i can do a full unattended install of XP pro with office 2007 & other standard applications in 45mins. From here you can use a 3rd party imaging application or Ximage(microsoft) imaging application if you feel the need.
  18. use Autoimage to integrate BTS Driver packs. saves you having to manually add yourself. i have many dell base units & have never had a problem with drivers doing it this way.
  19. Ive upgraded my RIS server to WDS mixed mode. When i boot on PXE & chose to enter RIS I get my normal RIS pages & Authentication page. The Authentication page stops unathorised users from logging into RIS. Now if i chose to a VISTA image at the first menu &I can get in as any domain users as there is no authentication page. how can I prevent aunauthorised domain users from access the WDS(Vista,PE) area ?
  20. Dont use Rip Rep. the best way to automate the installtion of XP across multiple PC hardware with drivers etc integrated is to use RISSetup images & use autoimage, BTS Driver packs & Ryan VM update packs.
  21. that adds media centre bits to XP but will that then take a media center Product code..?
  22. Hi Guys, ive got Pro & Home XP disks but have a PC in that needs reinstalling & it uses MC2005 with a MC code on the base unit. how can I convert one of my xp disk to install MC & accept his code.? I thought you installed XP pro & when you entered the code it just installed the MC components. ive tried that but the disks dosent accept the MC code of this base unit.
  23. Your best way is RIS/WDS. & you want your XP images as RISSetups not actual images. to do this you will need to install RIS & create 1 RISSETUP image, then upgrade to WDS mixed mode. modify your RIS image with Roguespears "Autoimage" which you can then use to integrate software updates"ryanVM updates" & Driverpacks"BTS Driverpacks". There is also the facility for scripts to help automate your installs after XP is installed. I use the above i can do a full base install with RIS & All my software packages in 50mins without touching a thing once its started.
  24. put the lines in a txt file. edit pathes & files names. rename file to .BAT & then run it. it will ask you on each line to confirm the license agreement & will the extract to your specified folder for you. or you can just paste the line into you "Run" command box. & hit enter. You would have to do each one, one by one then.
  25. you must of used .bat files before, otherwise known as .cmd this line will extract an update file if you put in corect paths & file names "C:\office2007-kb936514-fullfile-x86-glb.exe" /extract:"C:\office2007-kb936514-fullfile-x86-glb"
