  1. The problem with their current naming is that the GT200 is the new architecture...so it should be a new name. If the article linked above is to be believed, the GT200 will be released as 9900 series cards. I won't say that the current 9800GTX shouldn't be a "GTX"...it just shouldn't be a 9800. It should've been an 8900GTX. I say 8900 because the G92 release of the 8800GT/GTX should've been 8850's. And the 9600GT should've been an 8700GT. Wont argue with you there! I agree with you.
  2. Great recommendations. I would not upgrade the hardware. I would try to get more bandwidth...streaming media will eat up all your bandwidth for the most part so look in to that. IF it is about 200 visitors I would probably be fine with IIS especially if you are comfortable with it. But do remember that IIS is chock full of security holes. I am a fan of open source software that runs on Windows and Apache would be my preference big time. I agree with tux and idontwantspam
  3. Especially if you want to game at the native res...you need a powerful setup. I of course went a bit overboard but I am glad I did because the 9800 series dont got anything on my setup I still have yet to try Crysis on my system so I am looking forward to that. I just have 4 games waiting for me to finish them before I can play Crysis or anything like that
  4. Well said. I think they are following Intels tick tock strategy. One time will be a brand new architecture and the other release will be an architecture refresh. Thats what this seems to be like. I agree it does not deserve the 9800 gtx name.
  5. I believe that is a roger. Same thing when you use nLite you try to remove that you wont get Outlook 2003 to work as an example. But there are other alternatives out there like Mozilla's Thunderbird so you are not losing anything...
  6. Actually when yo uare gaming it should not matter if you are using ultimate or not. You prob were too aggressive with your settings when vliting. Also 32 vs 64 right now it is a crapshoot. I personally prefer x64 and you can see why from my sig. But that is not the issue here either. The only logical explanation is since it was working fine before till you vlited it...to try vliting and create a new image again.
  7. The Ultra still pulls away at higher resolutions according to Anandtech. And when I mean high I am talking 1600p. Also if you turn on AA and AF you can see the Ultra still pull away. Kind of a disappointment as I wanted to get a 9800 gtx in SLI setup
  8. I have a 30 inch HP monitor and I would not use anything else after using it.
  9. So may I ask how if there are .wmv files on say a web page...how do you view/listen to those?
  10. I do like the way the Vista looks but I have to agree XP 64 by a long margin!
  11. I keep reading over the internet that people are seeing the OS is overall much faster than Vista is with SP1.
  12. If you vLite then I would say the choice is between Vista x64 and XP 64. My vote would still go for XP 64. You will just notice a lot more speed than Vista. That is for sure. However since you are on a laptop, I would make sure about all the drivers being all in order before I go for 64 bit flavor in any OS.
  13. http://www.codeplex.com/singularity AWesome! The geek in me is going
  14. No, unless you intend to run it as a very stripped down server with no GUI, Core is not for you. Stick to the regular versions of S2008. Standard Core and Core? Are you sure you're reading that right? You should see something similar to Windows Longhorn SERVERSTANDARD and Windows Longhorn SERVERSTANDARDCORE. The regular version of S2008 Standard does not/should not have the "Core" word in it. You are probably right. I think my brain is a bit too tired from the late hours Thanks for your help!
  15. Thanks Arneh so the best bet is to go with the Standard Core? Cuz I see Standard Core and Core as options in the vLite when it asks for what OS to vLite...
  16. Not to hijack the topic, but I am experimenting with the trial windows server 2k8 OS on my laptop so that if I like it I am gonna spring for a copy and use it on my machine. I downloaded the 32 bit trial and have been seeing if vLite can work on it. Right now obviously it will not work and I need to be careful with what I am doing. I am curious for those who vLited it succesfuly with the existing version of vLite, is there a guide you followed or was it hit and miss? Also I saw this core thing in vLite. What are you supposed to select if you want none of the server features but just a really powerful workstaion OS? Should I start with the Standard Core?
  17. Nice I need to get my grubby little hands on a copy of Server 2k8. so you are saying in terms of gaming that OS is DX 10.1 capable especially since it has SP1 in it now?
  18. Are you calling the 9800Gx2 card the high range? Even if it is so, the performance increase is 30% over an ultra...not bad but when you conisder it is having 2 GPUs in it...its kinda sad.
  19. It is I think readily available on the internet if you do a search but Nvidia said that they were goign to follow Intel's tick-tock strategy. So that means one product will launch will be a new architecture launch whereas the tock would be then just an architecture refresh, process refresh etc. I think the 9800 falls in line with the tock considering how much of a colossal boost the 8800 series were.
  20. I went to a friends house today and installed an 8800 gt and a blu ray drive and upgraded his PSU for his HTPC. He has Vista Ultimate running on it. It had SP1 installed on it. I tried copying the downloaded Nvidia drivers from one folder to another. It took 10 minutes and didnt even finish. It was only 30 MB. I hit Ctrl X and Ctrl V simple right? Vista was flabbergasted apparently. Next was shutting down the machine after installing the drivers. took 30 min. Not kidding. Ok more like 22 min and then we gave up and hit the pwoer button and restarted it. This is on a dual core 2 ghz with a gig of ram. Granted not the most powerful machine but it should have still run decent. What a piece of barf Vista is. I do like the UI though...
  21. I have read a fresh install with SP1 probably shows the most improvements. Also there is an article out by LanZen that should be an itneresting read for all Vista SP1 users. http://www.blog.lanzen.co.uk/?p=67
  22. I have a single 30 incher. Thought of getting another 30 incher but I gues I will wait till they fix the SLI not working with dual monitor bug.
  23. When you say booting to a PE disk you mean sort of like the offline defragging right? I would love to be able to do that but for some reason my system gets a BSOD when I do it on Perfectdisk. I wonder if it has anything to do with my OS being nLited. Though I must say I only tried it onec. Also no I am not going to registry hack my way for the MFT but thanks MHZ thats interesting that it can be done!
  24. I just didnt want to create a new topic for this question of mine but in Diskkeeper there was an option to optimize and increase the size of your MFT tables. Does PerfectDisk have a similar feature? I did notice a bit more zippiness after doing the Diskkeeper MFT size optimization thats why I ask. Maybe it could be a placebo effect but it would be good to know. Thanks!
  25. Off topic but I cannot wait for SSDs to drop in price!
