StartAllBack settings do not fully transfer between PCs
mackid1993 replied to lubierzca's topic in StartIsBack+
That is by design, SAB hooks into explorer and stores its settings where Windows natively would. I wouldn't transfer these settings between PCs, it'll likely lead to bad registry pointers but you'd have to research where Windows would store these registry values. In other words, take screenshots and redo is the safest way. You can export HKCU\Software\StartisBack for some of the settings safely though. -
The glowing can be shut off in the settings app. Edit: I may be wrong, this may only work for the Win 11 taskbar. If so, sorry! Edit 1: To not double post, the flashing drives me nuts and this setting does work with SAB. @Ten2O let me know if this helps you prevent your burn in. You may need to reboot or restart explorer after changing this setting.

Out of curiosity and just for my own peace of mind do you plan on removing taskbar functionality from StartAllBack when the classic taskbar code is unworkable or do you think you'll be able to do something like you did with the system tray (which is better than ever now!). Either way you are a brilliant engineer and I really thank you for all you do to make Windows better!

Don't use the Windows 8 theme then.... you are causing your own problem and complaining to us. Use the default theme, set taskbar to clear, opacity to 0 and you will see nothing when hidden. Otherwise burn baby burn.... 🪩 Maybe be a little more respectful to the developer as well, being nice gets you further.

Let's just hope Tihiy can reimplement the taskbar like he did with the system tray. One could hope....
-
Ah, makes sense. Hopefully @Tihiy can save us or at least decrapify the Win 11 taskbar. 🙏 Maybe 24H2 will bring us StartAllBack+....
-
Sorry I'm not understanding?
-
I wonder why it's there. Are they just trying to discourage shell modifications or are they going to strip the code out? If it's been there all this time there has to be a technical reason for it to still exist in Windows, hidden away.
-
Not if you follow my instructions. Taskbar hidden: Taskbar showing: Set it to clear with 0% opacity and you won't see a thing at least as far as my eyes can tell. Otherwise as Tihiy said "We don't need no water". 😂
-
You've got to be kidding me.... This is gonna be a mess...

So far it doesn't seem like they are removing the classic taskbar code, they even removed the DisableWin10Taskbar feature flag. Parakhin seems to have a different approach than Panos Panay. They probably made some other change that broke SAB. This is why one shouldn't use SAB with Dev/Canary builds so Tihiy can test and fix things before they trickle down to Beta -> RP -> Stable. edit: Nevermind, M$ sucks!

Do you have Dark Magic enabled, it is likely SAB is conflicting with Rectify11 even without Dark Magic enabled.

Found another edge case Directory Opus bug. Sorry for the low resolution, I have to compress the video a lot to upload to the forum. 2024-03-13 10-19-57.mp4

I've bought a few extra licenses because of this. We need a buy me a coffee page.

You can set the opacity of the taskbar to 0% all of the time which is probably better for your OLED anyway. Also as a side note and to not double post NetWorx fixed the bug causing the taskbar to clip in their latest pre-release build: https://www.softperfect.com/special/snapshots/

That's how it was in Windows 7, I'd assume this is expected behavior.
-
Oh thanks. For some reason Disable worked. It did disable it after relaunching the app. But I'll switch that!! Thanks as always!

I found another Directory Opus bug, see below. For now I've added the following to the registry, I thought I'd share this just in case some else needs to exclude an app from Dark Magic:
-
I just wanted to follow up, so sorry to bother. Is this something possible to fix on the SAB side or should I pursue this with SoftPerfect. I'm just not sure which app is the culprit and any help is always appreciated. Thank you!!

@Tihiy I did some more testing and it seems the issue with Networx is isolated to SAB. I tested with both Windows 10 fresh install as well as Explorer Patcher on Windows 11 and wasn't able to reproduce in those environments. I then installed SAB 3.6.16 with the old system tray was also not able to reproduce. It seems that this issue is a compatibility one with the new system tray. I'm attaching a screen recording that shows the steps for reproduction. I also let SoftPerfect know but I have a feeling they are going to tell me that it's an issue with SAB and not their product as the issue only occurs when using SAB. Edit: I just want to add that I believe it has something to do with networx.dll Networx Sab Bug.mp4

Honestly it's not a good idea to disable updates. Tihiy usually patches bugs before a Windows update will break things.

Found a minor Dark Magic bug. When right clicking on a Directory Opus 13 floating toolbar (a toolbar that exists outside of the main Opus window, can live on the desktop or dock to the edge of the screen) while Opus is in Dark Mode (a new feature for Opus 13 that is implemented similarly to SAB, win32 property sheets are dark et cetera, great minds think alike 😉) the context menu comes up with mismatched colors.

You are right, it is Networx! @Tihiy as always you are the man! I looked and there was a patch released for Networx and it's now fixed!! This wasn't even your problem and you really helped me. Thanks so much as always. Grateful for you!! Edit: Spoke too soon, it started happening again. I opened a report with the Networx devs. Edit 1: I figured out Networx has a dll (networx.dll) that is loaded to help with the taskbar graph on Windows 11. This can be renamed or deleted with some minor side effects that don't seem to matter on the classic taskbar. That has fixed this issue. I passed this info on to the devs at SoftPerfect, they are pretty responsive and hopefully can fix it.

Hey @Tihiy I frequently have this issue. I connect to a machine over RDP frequently (it's a VM on a headless server) and this happens upon connection and requires an explorer restart to fix. Is this something that can be patched in a future update. It's been happening for quite a few versions now. I can also repro it by resizing the taskbar icons in startallbackcfg.exe.

I believe it's in the installer. If not there is a scheduled task. Just disable it.
