Yep, probably you knew it. But what's interesting, the author kept his promise and V2 is still supported, even past the 127 limit, in the current v.131. It's almost in line with the current Chromium 133.0.6863.0.

Dave, thanks for reminding. There's a Chinese fork which solved all of the problems, including the bloody V3/V2. Found by @Saxon. I still hope @win32 will take it into consideration.

Welcome, A year old browser might not hold out for long, sorry to be the downer. And we need new ideas on how to hold onto V2. Seeing Supermium stuck at 126, more than 7 major versions behind , I kinda suspect that the manifest could be the reason.

But it only affects those on 127+, so I'm planning to stick with 125 for some time.

You may be right, it was something similar when they moved to V2 manifest, but you may be too young to remember. If I'm not mistaken, Chrome simply disabled "old" extensions one "wonderful" morning.
