  1. try this or make sure your settings are like this: 1. Start the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) Group Policy snap-in. To do this, click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type: gpedit.msc. Then, click OK. 2. In the Local Computer Policy\Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Remote Assistance folder, locate and double-click Offer Remote Assistance. 3. On the Offer Remote Assistance Properties dialog box, click Enable. 4. Select an option from the list to determine which of the following actions the expert users can take. Allow helpers to only view the computer Allow helpers to remotely control the computer Note This setting is for the entire group that is listed. The Offer Remote Assistance policy setting does not provide a mechanism that lets one group of users view the computer of the novice user, and also lets a second group of users view and control the computer of the novice user. There can be only one expert group. 5. Click Show. The Show Contents dialog box opens. 6. Click Add to add the Domain Users and Domain User Groups. 7. Click OK to close the Show Contents dialog box, and then click OK to close the Offer Remote Assistance Properties dialog box. 8. Quit the MMC Group Policy snap-in.

  3. We have a IBM Gen 5 backup drive. I recently installed a hardware update from Windows update. When the server restarted the backup device lights are constantly flashing so i thought the hardware update must have failed and went into device manager starngely the backup device is not even listed there - kind of lost here as to what i could try next?? any ideas? i will be going into safe mode few hours later but just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Thanks
  4. Im trying to block users from downloading all files except ones i specify. I know i can block downloading all files by using the group policy option "Disable Save this program to disk option" but that does all files. Is there a way i can specify which files can/cant be downloaded? I know you can do this with ISA but we dont use it so another option would be real good. cheers
  5. Thanks for that but it didnt work. The only way i managed to resolve it was restarting the server. Again the problem occurs after a short while but restarting does the trick
  6. Not sure if this is the right forum for this question but - is there a tool that i can use to check data DVDs to see which two (out of the three) is corrupt? I've installed all 3 data DVDs and all installed successfully but when i burnt them, two failed (being lazy i didnt throw or label them) Thanks
  7. I installed SP2 and IE7 a while back (WS2003). I used to manage policies from gpmc installed on the server, but for some reason when i open up a policy the IE7 gpo options are missing. So i decided to reinstall IE7 adm file by downloading it from MS and still have the same problem even when creating a new gpo. Ive even removed and added the inetres adm file but still no good. I can control and see IE7 GPOs from another WinXP machine when logged on as an administrator. Anyone got any thoughts on whats the problem here? Thanks

  10. Currently when a user exits word/excel it comes up with a message asking to save normal.dot which they dont want to and this happens regulary. Im thinking of moving all office template files to one location and making this folder read only to overcome this problem - would everyone agree or is there a better way of avoiding this constant error message? Cheers
  11. urrrr anyone got any clues on this?
  12. I created an ADM file to tighten IE7 down on our domain. I followed the instructions found at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918238 but must have made a mistake somewhere when adding more than 1 search provider. Can anyone tell me where the problem could be? Also i want GUID 1 to be the default search provider, again with this file i seem to have GUID 2 as the default.... 14. Doubt itll be a spooler issue but you can stop/restart the spooler to confirm (from services), then switch off/on the printer and see what happens otherwise try uninstalling the drivers via the Pinters and faxes window - restart and install again - see what happens. Also if your connecting via an IP address check the IP matches and that you can ping the printer.
  15. ok what if a wireless laptop has an internet connection established. Can he then connect to a VPN connection? Thanks
  16. yea....just take them out of the administrator group or if theyre a power user remove the group from group policy: Open up Group policy Computer configuration > Windows settings > Security settings> local policies > user rights assignment > Change the system time Delete power user
  17. Can a wireless laptop dial out using dialup connection? or does it need a dialup modem installed for this reason? i.e. i want to have my user with a wireless laptop to dial into our network. Thanks
  18. And if you dont know anything about programming i think 1 week is not going to be enough to understand everything. It would also depend on what your trying to program i.e. an application or website.
  19. Just to add to that i had a similar issue. The way i resolved it was by logging onto the server turning off RDP - restarting turning RDP back on, at this stage you can either restart again or give it a few minutes before attempting to RDP to the machine.
  20. Thanks for that link cluberti......makes more sense. Is there a step by step guide on how to set it up and start using it? cheers
  21. I dont fully understand what Sharepoint is (on WS2003) well i have a basic idea that its some kind of website but dont understand the need how its a benefit. Does anyone have any scenarios or a site that takes me step by step to do something basic with it so i understand? Cheers
  22. What do you mean by this and what will it do??
  23. Thanks for that. I cant use GP as its a home edition PC. What i want to do is hide the account so any other admins cannot delete it or view it. Or at least not delete the account so if i can put a "read only" tag onto this account that may just do the trick..... Thanks
  24. I have an account that i would like to hide when any user types control userpasswords2 ive already hidden it using a reg hack HLKM>Software>Microsoft>Windows NT>Current Version>Special accounts and giving the account name a Dword value of 0 but this hides it from the main logon screen but not when a user types control userpasswords2. Any way around this? Thanks
  25. Im curious to know what you guys would be doing about gearing up for WS2008 or not. Would you just play with it alongside WS2003 or do you have no interest in upgrading to it??
