  1. My thoughts exactly. I'll keep automatic updates turned on for now.
  2. Ah, true. I forgot that official EOL was April 2014.
  3. Thinkpads are tougher than cockroaches 😂 that thing will never die.
  4. Now that we have finally reached EOL, I am curious to know how many people will continue to use Windows XP. I for one, will. However, I do use GNU/Linux, and newer versions of Windows for certain software that is not compatible with XP.
  5. Ah, ok, I thought so. I really like malwarebytes. It saved me many a time back in my teenage years lol!
  6. Keep in mind, Windows XP is an 18 year old operating system, and still commands roughly 4% desktop market share. You honestly don't think the community will stick around?
  7. That's true. I think the biggest threat to XP is malicious javascript. Modern trojan type viruses will probably have missing libraries, etc for XP.
  8. Doesn't Panda Dome antivirus still support XP?
  9. At least a few more years, I imagine. Likely until we cease to get updated browsers.
  10. As long as we continue receiving browser updates, I don't see any good reason to drop XP in favor of a newer OS. Windows XP is extremely light on system resources, has an enormous software library, and is quite reliable. I'll continue using it long after POS Ready 2009 updates end.
  11. Very cool project! I absolutely love the old Mozilla UI.
  12. Ah, I see, that's too bad. This browser works significantly better under 98SE than any of the others I've found.
  13. Probably just keep using it, as long as we keep getting updated browsers.
  14. It will likely continue to work until they push a new client update. When that day inevitably comes, we will be SOL.
  15. Don't hold your breath.
  16. Interesting. I don't understand why so much FUD is projected, in regards to XP's security. It's almost like some people get off on it. Truly perplexing. Considering the amount of software that is available for the Windows XP platform, I see little reason to upgrade in the near future. GNU/Linux is a viable alternative to XP, but even abandoned proprietary software is often times objectively better than whatever GNU has to offer.
  17. So, aside from presumably having a an actively maintained web browser, us XP users will be left out in the cold, come April of 2019. How dangerous will it be to continue using this aging operating system online? Will a router firewall, and up to date web browser be enough?
  18. The end of official support doesn’t render the operating system unusable. As long as you’re connected to the Internet behind a router with a firewall, and browsing the internet responsibly on an updated browser, there is no reason why you can’t continue using XP without an issue. I have no intention of giving it up any time soon.
  19. It still works as far as simply launching the client goes. If you try to download any games, you'll be met with a server unreachable error.
  20. I just came back to XP this year, as I’ve become jaded by the direction MS is going in with Windows.
  21. This is really sad. I have quite a few steam games that I played exclusively on XP, simply due to the fact that they had better compatibility / were much more stable on this old platform. I’m inclined to never give any of my money to Valve ever again. The least they could do, is allow you to access your library to download and launch your games.
  22. Signed! Only 20 signatures though
