  1. Any registry cleaning utility can cause problems. Registry cleaning utilities should be used at your own risk. The registry is a very delicate thing. You should allways backup your registry before using any utility like this. I have seen some systems get pretty screwed up using registry cleaning utilities. I once saw a system that had all of it's extensions mixed up. EXE files would try to open with word, doc files trying to be open in photoshop, rar files trying to open in wordpad... it was a nightmare.
  2. It may be possible that you have a rootkit! Check out this site: http://icrontic.com/forum/showthread.php?t=50966 The guy had the exact error as you and he found a rootkit and removed it. Hope this solves your problem. Good luck. Please let us know if you get it fixed.
  3. Random reboots really suck. Cause it's hard to narrow down the problem. I'd run a scan on my RAM to see if it is faulty. Also a scan with chkdsk to check the hard drive. Check if the fans on your laptop are working ok. Also make sure your fans aren't smothered on your bed in a blanket or something. It is common for people to use a laptop in bed and cover up where the fans need to exit. If none of these are the issue you can look into bad drivers. Maybe Windows updated a driver recently that is causing instability. I'm sure you allready checked for Spyware/Viruses. I like to use a quick scan with Rogue Remover, Lavasoft Ad-Aware and or SpyBot. Hope this info helps.
  4. I agree with this 100% Logmein is one of the easiest and best methods for remote access.
  5. You can manually edit the boot.ini with the /safeboot:network switch... I never used Remote desktop in safemode though so I don't know for sure if it works or not. I do reccommend logmein.com though. It has an option to reboot the machine in safemode. And it's free!
  6. Ummmmmm HELLO it says it right at the very top of the first post in BIG BOLD LETTERS! Haha! Isn't 3.0 comming out really soon?
  7. Just use windows xp powerpacker. You can combine every version of XP, Home Retail/OEM, XP Pro Corp/OEM/Retail, Media Center... all on one CD. It is in my sig.
  8. There are no real limits. You may have an addon that has a problem with it and it is causing other addons to not work. The best thing to do in this case is integrate a few addons at a time... then test. Then add a few more and so on until you narrow down the troublesom addon.
  9. It is probably a log file from a program. Basically the program probably meant to put a log in it's own program files directory... but the path was not wrapped in quotes... so once it got to a space in the path the program thought the logs name was Program. Is there any text in the Program file?
  10. Yes deleting the LANG folder saves about 100MB. You can also get rid of the WINNTUPG dir (aside from 2 files I think netmap.inf and NETUPGRD.DLL) also you can delete WIN9XUPG, and WIN9XMIG. These folders are used for when installing within a windows environment instead of booting from the disk. So... they aren't needed since using that method is far from reccommended.
  11. I'd say you can't really prepair to be a great technition. It is just by hands on experiance. People can tell you what to expect but you will still never be completley ready. You just need to know how to find the answer to the problems you are presented with. I agree google.com can be your best friend in the technition world. If you know how to search you can find the answer 85% of the time. You will never know everything. You will learn new things in the computer world almost everyday and computers will keep advancing faster than anyone can learn them.
  12. wow 12$ an hour. That is very cheap. I guess it just depends what state/country you're in. I charge about $40 per hour when a customer brings the computer to me. But if I have to go to the customers house it is an extra $25 service call fee. Also the hourly rate jumps to $45 per hour at their house. If it is possible for me to remotely fix their computer I charge $25 per hour. I'm actually in the works of my next big program for my company. Which will allow me to advertize that I do Computer Preventive Maintenance once a week on their home computer or Huge Network. So far the program has way outdone any expectations I have ever hoped for. So you may see me advertize it later this year.
  13. Thanks for all of your hard work! I know you guys have been working on this project for a while now. I am sure a lot of people are going to enjoy this. For those of you who download this... please give some feedback.
  14. As long as the system you installed was with a powerpacked cd I assume. I have not attempted it myself. it may work on a system that wasn't installed with a powerpack disk... but I don't know. Sorry.
  15. It is very possible. Use the search of this forum. You can also try my program Windows XP PowerPacker to get you started with windows XP.
  16. Sadly I think any method you find will take a long time to install. Probably the only way we would be able to cut the time down is if someone was able to make a "Direct Integration addon" meaning someone actually found a way to slipstream the files and registry setting into the windows install instead of using installers. But the task would be very difficult. Hopefully someone will do it someday. But I don't have time to try to do it. There are a lot of programs beginning to use the .net framework latley... but not so much as to having the need to install .net from the get go. Unless you use the driverpacks... some of the control panels aplets for some drivers require .net. But there is an option in the DPs_Base to actually use classic control panels which do not require .net. I have been juggling with the idea myself if I should just remove .net from my install disks too.
  17. Your best bet is to use: RyanVM's UpdatePack My RVM Integrator My Windows XP PowerPacker With Bashrat's DriverPacks This would be a much more universal disk. With this method you can have every version of XP and different winnt.sif files for each version... to allow boot options for many different settings. and it would work on pretty much any type of hardware... installing almost all of the drivers.
  18. I have never heard of a way... and I seriously doubt it. Things are very limited when a computer first boots. It would probably not be possible... or if it were then it would probably not be very fast. It would have to load some sort of program to give video... plus it would need to install some sort of graphics driver... codecs... and so on.
  19. I am not offended in any way. I know my office integrator has taken a back seat to my other programs for a while. I will probably need to change the name of mine before it goes final though ... so as not to cause confusion between our apps.
  20. Wow... it's almost a replica of my Office Integrator. The whole thing seems so close to mine that it is scary. either 2 great minds think alike... or you used the layout of my Office Integrator... or the RyanVM Integrator? Great job though. http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Sigin...or/1175329925/1
  21. You can get the latest beta here: http://siginetsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=240 Please give feedback. The final will be release very soon. But I need you all to test it first. Enjoy the next Evolution of integrating Windows! P.S. The next tools I plan on updating are the Office Integrator, Windows XP PowerPacker, Bashrat's DPs_Base, and ... A lot of work has gone into these tools. So please show your support by donating... Support Siginet Software!
  22. I finally was able to make this work for SP3. Man... this method really needs to be simplified. beeker, vegar and others have done great at simplifying it a bit. But it is still pretty confusing. After I release v1.5 of the integrator I plan on taking a crack at making this method very simple. The hardest part for me will be converting the sort2cabs.js to Autoit code... but looking through the file it looks very possible. Once I convert that then I will convert all of the batch files into autoit and implement it into my Office Integrator GUI. This by far is the BEST way to integrate Hotfixes and Servicepacks into an office installation disk. I just got my Office disk down from about 1.5 GB to 722 MB. That is a significant difference. But the time it took for me to trial and error this was crazy. I am not a newbie to code... so for it to be this hard for me... I am either a lot dumber than I thought... or... most people who try this give up. The main thing I don't like about all of this is having to use orca to pop up windows and automate things. It leaves so much room for errors. Does anyone know of a way to silently perform orca stuff? I think I saw a commandline tool a while back but I don't remember where. Thanks
  23. I get the same error. Anyone have an idea on what we are doing wrong?
  24. http://siginetsoftware.com/forum/showthrea...hlight=infopath
  25. I think this issue has been around since before SP3. It is dealing with a certain hotfix for infopath. Basically there are 2 different workarounds you can find on http://msfn.org or on my site http://siginetsoftware.com/forum Sorry I don't have time to find them for you. But basically one work around is make sure you have dotnet installed on the computer before you install office2k3. The other workaround you have to use orca.exe to modify the msi file so that dotnet is no longer needed.
