Switching the router off for a few seconds then on again should reset everything to default.

I don't fully understand your question. DNS is provided by your ISP, it converts domain names such as www.msfn.org into an IP address. Are you asking if you are only able to browse the internet by IP and not by name?

Is the Alternate Configuration function of the network connection window of any use?

If you can log into the old install and now access the folder, it should just be a matter of removing the encryption attribute to gain access to the files within.

If you can't log onto the old install then it's too late.

Use remote assistance rather than remote desktop.

XP doesn't recognise the 14:9 resolutions and has reverted to the default. Installing the correct gpu drivers should allow you to select higher resolutions.

Let's get this straight. You have 2 disks, a new one with 2 partitions, one of which is installed with a new clean XP & the other with your previous installation that was on a different drive. The second disk is now blank. Correct me if I'm wrong. You need to access an efs folder created on another installation and the only way to do that is to log onto the old install & decrypt the folder from there. Can you be more specific about why you can't log onto the old install?

I don't think it's possible to do what you're suggesting without a third party skinning application. Right click the start button and select properties > customize > advanced for options on changing the look of the start menu panel.

Download the latest drivers for the laptops nic & extract the .INF .SYS & .CAT files and put them in the I386 folder that was copied from the cd, as instructed in the link above. No, just adding necessary drivers. I don't know about the drive problem though.

After a bit of googling, I found a reference to using a utility like partition magic to reset the partition & recover the files. Someone with better knowlege of PM will be able to tell you how.

Are you not in a domain with that many pc's? I'd be interested to hear how you're going to deploy this application without it. In a workgroup you'd have to install it to each pc individually anyway.

Not quite sure what you're looking for here. You can mount an NTFS drive through an empty folder on another drive. Eg, you can access the contents of D:\ via C:\Emptyfolder\

Making the profile mandatory would stop them making changes to it. You can't be selective about it though.

That's the problem right there, HOSTS is just a text file that gets searched before a DNS query is sent out. Look through it yourself for a unique entry and see how long it takes you.

I don't know anything about nlite, but if look through your user profile & find a file called ntuser.man (it'll be hidden), change it to ntuser.dat.
