  1. The watermark and pop up don't bother me so I suppose it's a matter of preference. Additionally, you can solve the issue of hooking on your own without paying, people have asked on here quite a few times how to fix that and myself and others have helped out; search the forums and if you really can't find a solution to the hooking issue, ask and someone will help you. Additionally, BM has also challenged users to attempt cracking the program if they really don't want to donate for added benefits. Also, at this point in time I doubt BM is going to change his model. He's been doing this for a while and his response has mainly been "don't like it, don't use it" from what I can tell. The error you're finding is a result of so many updates to the windows OS changing the symbols that need to be hooked into so if anything you should be blaming microsoft rather than BM who has to code each version of this program to work every single time there's a significant update to the OS (as is currently happening with the windows 10 anniversary build). (I personally just wanted the AeroGlass effect and don't mind the watermark and removing the pop up at start up) EDIT: I noticed that you mentioned that you don't want to install additional software as well as manually fix this error every time it occurs, so I have to ask exactly what are you using your system for since you seem to prefer an automated fix rather than a manual fix. The manual solution really isn't too difficult and time consuming since after installing windows debugger and creating the batch file to get the symbols the first time, running it once for the few times this error occurs really doesn't take much time (at most 2 minutes of my day to fix it).
  2. Sorry, was a bit preoccupied Unless you need to download the files again (which will be soon if you plan on getting the anniversary update) then you don't need to run the script; yes there are plenty of places where you would need to change the drive letter though an older version requires less changes (its at the end of my post). As for why BM hasn't commented, I assume he's off busy with life and other issues at the moment, besides there's always people around to help out if there are questions.
  3. That's ok, what you need to do is take the symbol files and place them in your installation of AeroGlass. For example, say your system drive is L:, then aeroglass would be installed there as L: > AeroGlass. Placing the files into AeroGlass would be to extract the files from my provided .rar and place them within the AeroGlass file as L: > AeroGlass > symbols. From there restart your computer or restart the dwm.exe process from task manager. Hope that helps.
  4. Might be necroing the thread, but those aren't the symbol files that are in my folder Might have to do with differences in our OS's though as long as the hook error doesn't appear I suppose the symbols are good
  5. Try these, they're the ones that are downloaded when I use the script
  6. @Ex_Brit try the solution offered by MDJ (requires the installation of windows software development kit). http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/174668-experimental-builds/?do=findComment&comment=1120664 Being that you're still on 10586 it should work and clear up the issue.
  7. Most people I run into on a daily basis have no knowledge of a computer system aside from "I push button, it turn on, I click shortcut, program opens, I do what I 'want', I push button, it turn off." I'm a university student so I suppose its to be expected, however as many have said I'm definitely not as knowledgeable as many here or the computer science/engineering students. That being said....... honestly I don't believe the ratio to be 99% to 1% in terms of people being sheeple that are led to, let's say windows 10, so much as its 99% to 1% of people who don't know what they want and generally accept anything so long as they're familiar with it. In other words most people just want something that (somewhat) works and looks familiar to what they used to use because they have no clue that it can be so much more; simply informing them (as has been the case with many who ask me about computers) about this at least interests them to want to tweak their systems, though because of lack of knowledge, time, etc ask others to do it for them. Because of this, anyone who slightly knows a little more than the average user is pretty much revered as a tech guru as they have more vision as to what they want the system to do rather than use it for facebook/twitter/social media and the occasional word document. Just my opinion on the matter though.
  8. Neither option sounds appealing as you'd have to take the time to add all the apps, programs, and updates back into 8.1, and windows update now takes forever to get updates then go back to remove, or outright avoid, anything related to telemetry and upgrading to win10 (though since the owner likes 10 its likely they'll eventually undo this and try upgrading to 10); or upgrade to 10 then possibly have to restore/reinstall the OS regardless as the errors could transfer over, if not be made worse because of the upgrade, and still have to perform the updates, set up, stabilize it from any bad updates, etc. However, other than directx 12 and support for newer hardware, I can't think of any other advantages 10 has to 8, 7, and (arguably) XP. My opinion: I'd say go for 10 since the owner likes it and it might (emphasis on might) run better on the hardware. Regardless of whatever you decide to do, good luck with it!
  9. Might just be you, I can access it and it seems to be up based on here (you can check if the image doesn't convince you).
  10. As far as I know you receive a license key which removes the watermark, start up pop-up, and automatically downloads symbol files for the program if you donate to the program's creator. You can donate from the support page here http://glass8.eu/support.php. Further information can be found here http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/173139-read-first/. Other than that the program is technically the "full" version from the start I suppose as it's not exactly nagware asking one to donate to use the program.
  11. I think this might be more of a question for @NoelC; however from my time with VMs it could be possible that it is a problem with the VM (I had problems enabling aero on Vista and 7 on virtual box). I personally have not used this program on a VM mainly because the few times I've used Win10 in a VM it was mainly to see what changes have occurred, how it affects compatibility, and what can/cannot be affected (before the commercial release my win10 VMs were trial runs to see what the OS would be like).
  12. Just to verify, you are putting the files in the aeroglass folder under a symbols folder like NoelC demonstrates in his screenshot (eg. C:→AeroGlass→symbols), correct?
  13. Do you have any idea what might be causing Office 2016 to malfunction like that? I'm interested to know why being that I'm still on 2007 but thinking about getting a newer version of Office.
  14. Follow MDJ's instructions here http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/174668-experimental-builds/?do=findComment&comment=1120664
  15. I can definitely vouch for what you're saying about hardware on laptop computers; I'm not too sure as to why manufacturers elect to not include a touchscreen for devices past windows 8 but I suspect it has to do with a dying market and keeping production costs down, same for the lower tier hardware. On the other hand, one of my devices is a toshiba laptop with windows 10 with a 4th gen i7, 8 gb of ram, 15.6" display, touchscreen, and a 1 tb hdd that i swapped out for a 120 gb ssd (hdd is now used as back up storage). Being that it runs ridiculously smooth on this device might be influencing my thoughts on windows 10 being somewhat decent. I would say that varies regardless of hardware as at times my pc with an ssd takes longer to update than another with a hdd.
  16. Don't usually post but you peaked my curiosity with this. What hardware are you comparing to your iMac? As far as I know (and compared to everyone here that's not much) Apple computers in the 2000s generally used more expensive/higher end parts than their Windows counterparts, hence the difference in price and quality. However, I don't find that to be the case in the present day especially if you build your own PC. My own experience with Windows 10 is a bit hate-love (emphasis on more on hate) but it runs fine on my PCs, both HDD and SSD, and that includes a PC with crapware from 2002. Granted I only used the insider isos twice, however both times they never had any problems with updating on the fast ring to a higher build (isos were mainly to install the builds in 2 environments, a test build and a VM); my hate for Windows 10 lies more in its privacy options, or lack thereof, not its performance.
  17. As far as I know theme atlas files can be stored anywhere and later accessed using the GUI from bigmuscle http://glass8.eu/files/AeroGlassGUI.7z
  18. I left modified .layout files here http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/170233-aero-glass-themeatlas/?page=19#comment-1119838 Try them and see if it works though I'm not entirely sure if they work on the newer preview builds (I know that the files currently work up to 10586.164 as its my current OS) EDIT: I'm a utter id***, didn't notice that .layout files are currently not working in the preview builds
  19. Interesting, any chance you could share what needs to be edited to allow for rounded corners?
  20. This is the layout file for clsharp v4.2 and v4.4 (at least I think its for both) as well as v2 with some modifications that I made in order for it to work with modern apps. Try it and see if it works, remember to back up your original copy in case it screws things over. clsharp_v4.2 and v2.zip
  21. I left a download for the symbols files on this thread, other instructions by dhjohns were provided as well http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/174668-experimental-builds/?p=1119623
  22. Might as well I suppose, here are the symbols I have for anyone who still has the error concerning hooking https://mega.nz/#!4wxTAbrD!JhvyWU1vn50YXNGkGU9zdUxBdHg5vjjYsJWTGFPjWFg
  23. He mentioned that there was some sort of error to download the files though
  24. If it failed to download from the server then perhaps you didn't install the debugging tools from microsoft or maybe its blocked on the firewall?
  25. Not NoelC but I found a method on how to manually download symbols that someone posted here a while back Just follow the instructions here http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/174355-aero-glass-for-win81-14/page-4#entry1107168
