Perhaps you should install Atheros WiFi Application because Windows 2000 does not have a native WiFi Applicaiton.

Where do I find this? The link on your website for it w2k.flxsrv.org/cgi-bin/dl.cgi?file=athcliut.exe does not work and your Windows Legacy Update website does not have it meaning I can't download it. I should note that Boingo did detect the WiFi signals when the adapter was put into an Acer TravelMate 2480, but it blue screened upon trying to connect.

Atheros AR5008 Wireless Network Adapter Driver for Win2000

    How about it ? :3

Sorry for double post, but this driver installed successfully with no errors. I took the associated network adapter and put it in an Acer TravelMate 2480. That install of 2000 had no Extended Kernel or Core, but Boingo picked up the wireless networks, however, on trying to connect to one, the OS throws a driver IRQL not less or equal BSoD, maybe because of the lack of Kernel/Core? When using the driver with the adapter in its original laptop, the Aspire E1-531, it too installs fine, but Boingo does not detect the wireless networks saying "No signals available". There is no WiFi switch on this laptop. The closest thing is a button on the F3 key that is activated if I press Fn+F3, however, this does nothing unlike in XP, Vista, 7, 8.1, 10, and 11, where it turns on and off the WiFi in those OSes. This laptop does have Kernel/Core. Maybe lack of ACPI is to blame? Any help on this and my above issue greatly appreciated!

Atheros AR5008 Wireless Network Adapter Driver for Win2000

Thanks! I'll try this later. Also, I posted a new thread here but am not sure if you've seen it yet. Basically, I had to install W2K in Standard PC Mode and because of this, I cannot use your custom Sandy/Ivy Bridge graphics (I have the former and need to use VESA generic driver) and have the Windows 95-esk "It is now safe to shutdown the computer" and have to press the power button to turn off. Everyone agrees this is due to InsydeH2O BIOS not activating even your modded ACPI.sys (which works wonderfully on my Dell's with Ivy Bridge and Haswell, respectively), so if you have any solutions, please do comment in my thread linked below. It sucks  because I got this laptop so I could have Realtek audio in W2K along with actual, working Intel Graphics, and hopefully internet of some kind, but the stupid BIOS is railroading me :( Anywho, let's get back in topic here.

P.S. If anyone else has anything to contribute to my thread below, please do so. I'll take anything to get W2K ACPI working

  4. Welp, I've hit an impasse with Windows 2000 on the Acer Aspire E1-531. Despite following the steps here, http://windowsenthusiasts1.epizy.com/Windows2000SandyBridge.html, using an ISO made by Win32, Windows 2000 freezes at "Setup is starting Windows 2000", forcing me to press F5 and choose Standard PC. The BIOS in this system is InsydeH2O and people in the past have had issues with this and 2000. Any way I can activate ACPI under 2000 with this BIOS? I posted also to @blackwingcat site too, BTW, SATA driver works like a charm, so no IDE Emulation mode needed. This is an ACPI issue. On the plus side, I finally have sound on a modern W2K install thanks to Realtek Audio!

@win32 Maybe you have some ideas here? ACPI is needed if I want to use BlackWingCat's custom Sandy Bridge graphics driver for W2K rather than a VESA driver. In addition, the USB 2 ports don't appear to work despite me using my steps. This appears to be related to the ACPI as following those steps on my Dell Latitude E6530, where ACPI works flawlessly, fixes them, whereas on the E1-531, they do not, meaning I either have to burn files to a DVD or go into the installed copy of XP to copy USB drive items over. I did see this may be the result of a Serial Port setting, but no such option exists in the BIOS and I can't seem to find a modded BIOS that adds a Serial Port option in.

Huge thanks in advanced for anyone who can get this figured out.

  6. I was wondering if anyone has gotten drivers for the Qualcomm Atheros AR5B125 to work with Windows 2000. It came with such computers as the Acer Aspire E1-531. These only support Windows XP and later and don't include a 5.0 (2000) section, BUT, it does give a passing mention to 2000, like here: "Installs athwx.sys (NDIS 5/5.1 driver) on NT platforms (2000, XP and greater)". In addition, passing mentions to Windows 9x (95, 98, etc) are mentioned as well, like these: "Installs athwx.sys (NDIS 5 driver) on 9x platforms" and ";ExcludeFromSelect = \  ;for win95 and legacy support" (with the latter quote mentioning generic legacy support).

This means the device should be workable with Windows 2000, but I am not really sure how to do so. Here's what I've attempted so far (using a 2007 Acer TravelMate 2480 to temporarily host the network adapter while I await my E1-531 delivery):

    1. Added in NT.5.0 and my device ID (obtained from XP) %ATHER.DeviceDesc.661711AD% = ATHER_DEV_661711AD.ndi, PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0032&SUBSYS_661711AD and blanked the 5.1 section so it is commented out (E.G. [Atheros.NT.5.1] ; Empty section, so this INF does not support NT 5.1 and later). I also edited both .sys files within CFF Explorer to swap 5.1 mentions to 5.0 mentions. This did not work.

    2. Put back in the original adapter, install its drivers under XP, copy its driver ID to the Generic section of this driver, but changed it to read as: %ATHER.DeviceDesc.001C% = ATHER_DEV_001C.ndi, PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0032&SUBSYS_661711AD (This caused an Code 10) and then %ATHER.DeviceDesc.001C% = ATHER_DEV_661711AD.ndi, PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0032&SUBSYS_661711AD (The name is already in use as either a service name or service display name).

Number 2 was done to trick the driver into thinking the original AR5BXB63 was inserted, which failed. If anyone has any solutions to getting the AR5B125, please do share. Thanks in advanced for your guys' help!

  7. Hey @pappyN4, K4Sum1 and I were wondering if you could add RTLDowncaseUnicodeChar to this: https://github.com/pappyN4/NTOSKRNL_Emu

K4Sum1 says this can be compiled to work with Vista and that if you can do it, he would be one step closer to getting newer AMD graphics driver (such as AMD Radeon R4/Stoney Ridge, etc) working with Vista.

CC: @win32, @D.Draker K4Sum1 may be on to something here. This would be huge if he got the drivers working for it and expand Vista compatibility to possibly the AMD Windows 7 EOL! Stay tuned!

I have PC with Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3 motherboard and Seagate ST3500418AS hard drive.

According Gigabyte, this motherboard is supporting by Windows 2000 (https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-P55A-UD3-rev-20/support#support-dl-driver).

But when I'm running this PC over USB with W2k (image writing on USB stick by Rufus software), I'm getting blue screen with 0x0000007B error code.
How can I resolve this issue?

Slipstream the SATA drivers into the ISO, but even then, the Rufus created ISO will complain about how it cannot find the EULA. So, the only option is with good ole CD's. Windows XP works when prepared with Rufus however.

    Did it work?

I'm trying to get it to work on GPD WIN, a device built on same technology as Intel Cherry Trail tablets. Its UEFI class 3 so no any mark of bios or CSM.
It does not have BIOS INIT 10H required for Win7 to start (fixed via FlashBoot PRO, UEFISeven did not work)
It also does not comply with ACPI and throws A5 error (fixed via patched acpi.sys)
With that I've been able to boot into Windows 7 Installer but USB did not work so I couldn't continue. I've done first part of installation in Windows 10 bootloader and applied driver and all the hacks above to install.wim.
But after reboot it can't load Windows throwing that 7B error at me, please help. If we could get through, it would mean that we can install Win7 on any Cherry Trail or other Win8+ tablets which would be unbelievably awesome...

It still did not. I think it's because the hardware inside the Acer Aspire R3-131t is not defined in it even though vanilla Windows 8 Build 8056 works just fine whereas this driver, based on that, does not.

@Jakob99 What happends when you try to boot Windows 8.0 installer on your machine? Can you see your disk device? Also would be great if you can do same test with Windows 8.0 build 8056.

EDIT: Windows 8.0 beta download links

    https://windowsbase.pl/w8beta.php

Build 8056 works fine! I've ran it before no problems. Not sure why this driver won't work though.

@Jakob99 If you integrated them into boot.wim you were able to see your eMMC in setup?

    Here's some info: Hynix HBG4e, SD\GenDisk

SD Storage Class Controller: SD\VID_90&OID_004a&PID_HBG4e&REV_0.3 and SD\VID_90&OID_004a&PID_HBG4e

If you need more, please ask and I will provide!

@Jakob99 We finally managed to get working Windows 8.0 build 8056 Generic SD/MMC driver under XP. Here are same drivers for Windows 7 (ntoskrn8.sys is compiled as W7 target).

    sd+mmc_generic_driver.7z 168.37 kB · 5 downloads

Unfortunately, this did not work for me. Still 0x07b BSOD. It would appear my brand of eMMC is not included. My laptop is an Acer Aspire R3-131t from 2017 that has, I believe, Hynix eMMC (if that is wrong, please do correct me). I can setup Windows 8.1 rq and give you the relevant info from its device manager in the hopes you can add it to your driver. Thanks in advanced for your help!

Having that japanese name , how good is your friend with English ? Most of the files have self-explanatory names and/or easy to google.

I mean , I can help , but you gotta do the legwork yourself. This is a sound file , not a video driver.

He is actually from the United States. I'll forward him the stuff you mentioned here through Discord.

    And ?

I've actually fallen off this due to other stuff, although me and K4Sum1 have talked about this within the last week. We've tried some of the earliest drivers to support my hardware to no avail so far. Here's what K4Sum1 sent me via Discord:

!!Assume x64 unless x86 is specified!!

!!Some files might need 7 x86 mfplat, this won't be listed!!

!!Some files require msvcr110.dll and difxapi.dll, but this could be from something I don't have installed!!

    atieclxx.exe & dsemanager.exe - user32.dll - SetDisplayConfig

    dgtrayicon.exe - user32.dll - IsImmersiveProcess

    amdh264enc32.dll & amdh265enc32.dll & amf-mft-mjpeg-decoder32.dll - kernel32.dll (x86) - K32GetProcessImageFileNameW

    amdhdl32.dll - kernel32.dll (x86) - GetCurrentPackageId

    amdhdl64.dll - kernel32.dll - GetCurrentPackageId

    amdlvr32.dll - user32.dll (x86) - DisplayConfigGetDeviceInfo, QueryDisplayConfig, GetDisplayConfigBufferSizes

    amdmantle32.dll & amdvlk32.dll - user32.dll (x86) - DisplayConfigGetDeviceInfo, QueryDisplayConfig

    amdmiracast.dll - gdi32.dll - D3DKMTOpenAdapterFromLuid

    atiadlxy.dll - user32.dll (x86) - DisplayConfigGetDeviceInfo, DisplayConfigSetDeviceInfo

    atiumd6a.dll - powerprof.dll - PowerSettingUnregisterNotification, PowerSettingRegisterNotification

    atiumdva.dll - powerprof.dll (x86) - PowerSettingUnregisterNotification, PowerSettingRegisterNotification

    amdacpksd.sys - ntoskrnl.exe - strcat_s, sprintf_s

    atikmdag.sys - ntoskrnl.exe - sprintf_s, RtlDowncaseUnicodeChar

So, based on this, all this stuff would have to be added. This was taken from 16.7.1 with the Extended Kernel installed on K4Sum1's rig.

I would like to switch to vista from 7 in my ryzen laptop but the nVME SSD isn't recognized in install (lack of appropriate driver likely) and vega 8 has no modded driver for it (there is a win7 one which i still have in backup as it may be down but i have no idea on how to mod it) I wonder if AMD graphics drivers could be modded in a more widespread compatible way, from radeon r4-r7 to vega and RDNA, but they are significantly distinct architectures.

    ).

    https://winraid.level1techs.com/t/request-generic-nvme-driver-for-windows-vista-server-2008/37256/15

You may try this driver. As for AMD Ryzen, I do not have one, so any drivers for that would be up to you or someone else, and idk if Ryzen Graphics drivers include a blank, 6.0 section like Radeon/Stoney Ridge graphics.. Plus, there is that USB3 issue that causes BSOD's on occasion, although the Haswell+ problem is not a factor. Thus, it would seem AMD Radeon platforms like R4, which came bundled with such laptops as Acer Aspire A315-21 (2019 and earlier) would be the more stable choice as I've yet to run into any issues that are of the scale of Haswell bug and Ryzen BSOD. Nvidia will also work, but idk if there are any issues in relation to newer Nvidia's.

  16. If anyone is interested in Windows Vista on AMD Radeon platforms like Stoney Ridge, please check out this thread:

I'm currently investigating the graphics driver for this platform to see how it can be ported to Vista. It does have a 6.0 section, so I'm hopeful this isn't too hard to do. If anyone wants to controbute anything useful to my project, feel free! Also note, Extended Kernel should not be needed for this.
