It is normal when automatic updates are (AU) disabled, as soon as MSE is installed they will be activated. This happens partly synonymous with other programs from Microsoft as well.

Fact is Microsoft Update is needed especially for other MS products such as Office, Skype, Microsoft Security Essential, Silverlight, etc., when it comes to the Windows OS is enough Windows Update. Windows Update was not affected and thus it would have been possible to still get updates for Windows! Here, a distinction must be made between Windows Update (WU) and Microsoft Update (MU)! Everything else is pure speculation.

Microsoft has now also solved the problem with Microsoft Update, the missing / updated components are downloaded when called in Internet Explorer (http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate).

The authcab.cab file was updated by Microsoft, but there are still issues with the Active-X component. This currently means that when Microsoft Update is called (http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate), the Active-X component is installed, but some components of Microsoft Update are not available, resulting in a retry attempt Components to install (infinite loop). Since MS will certainly improve, since even newer Windows versions are affected. I'm not worried about that.

Certification of the file "%windir%\SoftwareDistribution\AuthCabs\authcab.cab" expired on 2017-12-03! I think that since MS has slept again.
Changing the date does Microsoft Update runs, but ultimately not recommended.1 -
At the moment Windows Update works, but Microsoft Update is disturbed.

I waited for that because the two previous updates (eqnedt32-en-us.msp & eqnedt32-zh-cn.msp) were not applicable to the German-language Office 2007. I had already wondered that the file version remained the same, although the newer file EQNEDT32.EXE had the version 2017.8.14.0.
Guys in MS, give yourself a bit more effort.

Before I publish a list of the most recent updates for Windows in this forum, I check these in my virtual machine to see if they are a problem or cause a malfunction. Each update is extracted individually to see which files or entries in the registry are changing and, as in the case of KB4048968, whether the application has been restricted to other XP variants.
Happy to hear when you finally get all the latest updates.

If a program shows me such a message, it can be assumed that there are no updated entries here, after in terms of the official end of support. This program might display many older updates (until April 2014), which are replaced by more recent ones from May 2014.
KB4011264 is for Word Viewer 2003 and not applicable for Office 2003. Unfortunately this time not usable.

What I do not understand is that the users know that this problem with the svchost CPU usage is repeated in almost every month and still have automatic updates enabled!

Disable automatic updates first, restart the PC, manual installation of cumulative update of IE8 (KB4047206), Security Update for Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack Service Pack 3 (KB4011265) and Security Update for Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack Service Pack 3 (KB4011205). After these updates are installed, the search should work properly with IE8 under Microsoft Update. If there are still problems, send me a PM.

There is indeed a detectable difference in KB2686509! Is probably related to the fact that there are more input devices for the embedded variants.
Regarding the update rollups, yes in DEU and ENU!

There is only one update (KB2686509) for Windows XP that differs from Windows Embedded. Furthermore, the Microsoft Installer (MSI) 4.5 should be installed before the POSReady updates are installed. Whoever has observed this usually also no problems.
Especially with new installations, some updates (exFat KB955704) are no longer available, so I maintain my own update Rollups!

Google is tracking plans with its own desktop OS. First make the internet community dependent on a modern web browser and then drop the support. It reminds me of MS with their Internet Explorer. Wish @Dibya all the best for a more up-to-date Chromium browser.
