  1. The \\chrome\flag has always been for experimental features and states that they can be removed at any time. This is not the fault of aeroglass. The work around of using chrome in compatibility win 8 mode allows for the caption bar to be changed and does not change how chrome functions as a browser. As for the boarder issue, winaero tweaker has been a solid and stable program for many years and has the ability to control many of the metrics of the windows. Would it be nice if there was a registry fix that permanently addressed this like the fix for allowing flash to be remembered? Certainly, but it appears that it cannot. We who use Aero-glass are those who want to have some control of how our desktop environment looks, which is bucking the 'norm' of simply accepting windows as Microsoft has envisioned it for us. Patience and waiting has always been a part of it. @Bigmuscle works on Aero-glass when he has spare time to work on it, it is not his 'bread and butter'. If coding a program like Aero-glass was easy then there would be others doing it also.
  2. On your link page: 5 chrome/browser/flag-metadata.json @@ -3179,11 +3179,6 @@ "owners": [ "//device/vr/OWNERS", "xr-dev@chromium.org" ], "expiry_milestone": 76 }, { "name": "windows10-custom-titlebar", // "owners": [ "your-team" ], "expiry_milestone": 76 As all the flags are purely experimental, they are subject to being removed at any time. They allow functionality for a time and then remove it later. Removing the /flag is easy but removing all the function code takes time.
  3. If I read the link info correctly, the functionality of the flag will end with chrome version 76. hopefully someone will figure out a registry hack to use like the "allow flash always on" that allows not having to shoose ecery time you need flash on a site.
  4. Also another issues is in html short cuts. By editing this key, it will allow aero when you double click any site shortcuts you may have saved. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ChromeHTML\shell\open\command (default) REG_SZ "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --disable-features=Windows10CustomTitlebar -- "%1"
  5. Hi CarteMoir, This will sound odd, but reinstall AeroGlass. Now navigate to C:/AeroGlass/ Inside this folder should be like the picture I attached. If the uninst000.dat file is there, try to uninstall normally or just run the uninst000.exe file directly. On the start menu issue, try googling 'repair win10 start menu' . I have had to do this in the past, and usually find a owrk around to repair it. Hope this helps
  6. If you have never used the program Winaero Tweaker which is free, It has controls for border sizes as well as many other attributes of windows. It can be seen and downloaded here: https://winaero.com/comment.php?comment.news.1836 I have used it for many years and has helped tweak many settings on all windows versions.
  7. Yeah, symbols finally downloaded for 506! Modernapps no longer throws up dialog boxes...
  8. Using Ccleaner under the 'Startup', go to the tab 'Scheduled' in advanced mode. There are a ton of items under Microsoft such as the notifications that might be running in the background. You can selectively disable them temporarily to see if it stops this. I am not running Modernframes.dll because of this, but might give it another go.
  9. So the layout file and png should be in the C:\AeroGlass folder to work I am assuming. And it would be of interest on how the layout file is generated. I know there is a windows app for layout, but cannot figure how it works, as it does not recognize the file to open it.
  10. So if one changes a value in the layout file it changes the png file it is associated with. Is that how that works?
  11. @NoelC What program does one use to convert the .layout file to a .png file? Thanks.
  12. I was wondering what one uses a .layout file, and how to convert to a .png file.
  13. Just to let you know latest beta ******3155 is now working properly in both win 8.1.1 and /win 10 9879. Good job fixing the aerohost problem bigmuscle
  14. bigmuscle, I am running the 11/17 build now. I am testing on both win 10 9879 and win 8.1.1. on dual boot machine with 64-bit versions. With both, I have no debug log for today, and believe aerohost is not running at startup at all. In win 10, trying to execute aerohost brings up the warning strip to contact developer, etc... In win 8, it does not execute at all.
  15. NP...I just bought the wife a new laptop with windows 8.1 installed....she still pines for XP....lol. Fixed it right though. Start Is Back and AeoGlass....now she's happy...haha
  16. Not complaining about debug screen, just information of how it is working. With the donation key in windows 8.1 I have a watermark, but no watermark in windows 10 with a donation key. I expected the debug screen when windows is loaded, but wanted to report the DWM debug dialog box showing before the dual boot screen loads which would be an oddity would it not? This started to happen when I installed the 9600_9860pre-1414185002 files in windows 10 9860 build. It happens only at a cold boot up but does not happen during a warm/restart boot. I am sorry if you feel that you misplaced your trust in me as a tester. I felt you would like to know if it worked properly or if it did not.
  17. So far, new release is working in release 9860. Using it on windows 8.1update 1, it is running, however it is displaying the debug window and the watermark. I have the donation.key and it is not displaying the machine code dialog. On an interesting note, I have a dual boot setup and the debug screen will also display just before the dual boot screen. This happens on a cold boot, but not during a restart boot.
  18. First time trying the beta on Win10, and all things are good to go on my laptop. Also using Noel's themeatlas and it too is working well with my setup. No problems noted as yet.
  19. When running Windowblinds (8.06) many of the skins will cause start menu to hang and not close until you click start button two or three times. Menu works, but does not close until this is done.
  20. My laptop is running 32 bit true color and aero is working fine Noel. I don't think you will have a problem. I am using NVidia drivers, the latest one. I also have worked in Photoshop with 32 bit indexed images without a problem. Not sure what ATI is eluding to with the 30 bit support....
  21. When I ran 7 on my laptop, if the default power routine of 'Balanced' was use, Aero was solid on battery, and glass on AC. When I made a custom or 'High Performance' routine, then glass worked on battery. To clarify a little, when I re-installed 7 it would work this way as 'Balanced' is a default. Some higher end performance laptops like Alienware would use the 'High Performance' routine from the factory. So it depends on what the machine was marketed for. When running Aero glass, there is a slight performance hit on the battery life, that is why a balanced routine is default from Microsoft. AeroGlass is designed to be as native with DWM as possible. DWM will run according to system wide settings. As 8/8.1 does away with Aero, it was not designed to have a 'battery' setting and in most cases will have to be created in the registry. This whole battery on and off thing has proliferated this forum from the beginning. Bigmuscle has the beta program to change some registry settings for those uncomfortable in doing it manually. At some point in time, I am sure he will integrate this into the install routine. He develops in his free time, not ours. Once again, it is all about READING the instructions on the pages of the programs web site. The guide page is there to address most of the tweaks available. For those who would like to have a file to merge into the registry easily, then copy and paste the following into notepad and save as "DisableOnBattery.reg". Double click and it will merge into the registry. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM] "DisableGlassOnBattery"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\DWM] "DisableGlassOnBattery"=dword:00000000 This is about as simple as you can get.
  22. Version 1.0 = 1 Version 2.x = 2 Version 3.xx = 3 Version 95 = 4 Version 98 = 5 Millennium = 6 XP = 7 Vista = 8 Windows 7 = 9 Windows 8.X =10 This is to clarify the order of major releases. I have had them all. As far as common is concerned, most builds are under the hood, not the gui seen. Moves such as 8 bit to 16 bit etc. require huge recoding and introductions of base driver libraries. Windows NT and Windows 2000 are not included in the line up as they were intended for professional releases and not for the home user. It was not until the release of XP, that the NTFS file system format was merged into the public realm with it's full support of the 32-bit structure. Windows 98 SE was still 98 but a poor attempt from Microsoft to get people to buy the same version 98 with basically USB support.
  23. It has always been 'my opinion' that the odd numbered versions have been best. 3.11, 98, XP, and 7. Always built on new bases. 8.1 is better than 8, but if MS is true to form, version 9 should be a winner. We will just have to see.
