  1. If you received a password, try typing it in instead of copy/paste. Also, try running the page in compatibility mode. You can also try the zip code of your PayPal account, but double check it. If it is 9 digits, check to see if there is a hyphen or not. Mine did not, so I have to use it without the hyphen to get my keys. Hope this helps.
  2. The reason I use SIB is simple for me at any rate. I work a lot with Lightroom, Photoshop, and Dreamweaver. Many times I'm back and forth with these, but do not have them open all the time. As all of this takes place on the Desktop, I do not like hopping from there to the start screen and then back. To me it seems a bit counter-productive in a manner of speaking. And speaking of retro, win 8 kinda reminds me of the OLD windows 3 and 3.11 where you did not have the start button and had to start in win manager! Also consider that since 8.1 there is the option to bypass the start screen to the desktop. Why? The desktop is where the work gets done. Not with apps. The start screen was totally in response to touch screen devices (look at the icon size - for use with fingers or styluses). Now also consider that version 9 will be in two favors. One of those will be for desktop users supposedly with the start menu back in place. The other will be for the touch screen and tablet users.
  3. Your English is good enough. Your point is understood. Fussy means picky. As far as the taskbar, the forum makes mention of how to achieve degrees of blur to full transparency, especially with the use of StartIsBack, which I use. See my attached pic of taskbar. The added benefit is getting the start menu back and then some, just like Windows 7. Hope this helps
  4. I agree. If you want to see totally boring, try running Server 2012 RC2. DWM is just about non-existent. Just a flat boring grey theme (if you want to call it a theme). It does not have themes, not even wallpaper. But then again, running a server is all about business, no distractions. Even though changes are made from time to time, I will go out on a limb here and say that Bigmuscle, Tihiy, and others enjoy the challenges to keep their programs running. Challenges are what keep you going and the mind sharp. I do not play with Linux much these days, and I do not have an Apple (just a couple friends who do), but try to get some nice effects there. Linux has some, but I think Apple is pretty much a no-go. Even at 65, I can't wait for Windows 9 to come out and see what changes and challenges it brings (FYI, the odd numbered versions are usually the best...ever notice that?).
  5. Hmm, Just an idea, but doesn't windows run Trim on SSDs? That could be another source of headaches. You may want to also check if there are any problems with Windows 8.1 on the Crucial web site also.
  6. I concur. I think when BM has 'The utility is completely integrated into Desktop Window Manager without breaking any system protection or modifying system files.' on his page is aphelions issue. That and the fact of the watermark. He has monopolized this forum to the point that people are really paranoid. As I stated earlier, I do not see him taking Tihiy to task.
  7. I would not worry about it. I do not see him taking Tihiy to task for his programs, just Bigmuscle. That is what I think is bizarre, unless of course it is because BM is asking for donations to eliminate the watermark and debug screen, where Tihiy is not.
  8. aphelion is talking about the ability to use the file to run unrestricted, meaning it can be used for malicious purpose. DWM.exe uses the file to present your desktop. AeroGlass does not access anything outside of your machine which it would need to do if big muscle wanted to hack into your machine. I have repaired more machines that I can remember that have had the Desktop Windows Manager held hostage by malware (ie: 'your machine is infected by blah, blah, blah'). The problem is not in the DWM but elsewhere. And this is on machines NOT running AeroGlass. Let's face it, Windows is not completely secure. No OS is. It is just more popular to target. Microsoft would have to cause the UAC to ask for elevated privileges for everything to be totally secure. They were taken to task for that when it first appeared in Vista. And even then, it can be bypassed. All who are running AeroGlass are doing so because they want a better desktop then Metro. Most, if not all, are also running UltraUx or UxStyle so they can run 3rd party themes. Many also have SiB to get the start menu back. Some are also running ONE to get rid of the ribbon. Any one of these programs could be convoluted by malicious intent. aphelion is just pointing out that this can be done, not that it is being done.
  9. To aphelion posts in general: First and foremost for anyone is to never use programs of this genre on a mission critical machine. If your account is admin, then you can pretty much do what you want with files. If there are other accounts on the machine, you can restrict them by policy so that changes cannot be done. Security on a machine is fairly straight forward. Use good encrypted passwords, good security software with good rules, and be vigilant as no software is 100% protection. You can go as far as bitlocking also. I am also assuming you are not worrying about outside hacking, as there are easier ways to take control of a machine than mucking around with the DWM routines. For the most part, I imagine we are all adults here and are free to make our own choices as to what we want on our machines. You quote about security, especially about the watermark. Security for whom, and from whom? If your machine is secure, you are the only one to take advantage of possible openings. It is caveat emptor - let the buyer beware. This is true for tangible or intangible products. Let people make up their own minds on what they want or do not want. As to charging to remove the watermark, this is getting old. Bigmuscle developed this and has the right to ask for donations for his time spent. The reason for AeroGlass is simple. It enhances the theming of ones machine using metro or other third party themes, some of which are also not free and they ask to be paid for their efforts and few complain. All of which comes down to an analogy...IE has a security flaw. It is on the 6 o'clock news. Now people have a risk from hackers who probably did not know about it until it was aired through the media. The proper thing to do is bring it up with the developer discreetly and not plaster it for everyone to see. Thanks for listening.
  10. Not sure what is suppose to happen during shutdown or restart when holding Shift key. Doing so did not seem any different than normal.
  11. Hi all, There is always going to be people who are having problems. I have a Dell XPS15, i7 cpu, 2 gig NVidia, 8 gig memory, 750 hybrid Seagate drive. I generated my key when I had windows 8. Since then I have upgraded with a full, clean install of 8.1. Still did not have problems. Then updated with the official Spring update. I received the console window ONCE. Closed it and have had no problems since. And the symbols downloaded fine Through all this, I have had OldNewExplorer 1.07, AeroGlass 1.2.1 64bit, StartIsBack 1.60 and use UXStyle for * and above. As you can see by my previous posting, I have a nice Office2010 RC theme running. AND I do not have any other tweaks going on except for disablebattery is '0' so I can have glass when on battery power. My experience with computers goes back to my 286 days, and since, I have fixed and repaired hundreds of computers and problems along the way. I also have college for web management, programing and design. If a few bucks is a killer for you because 'it doesn't work', then get off the forum, head over to Stardock and plunk down some serious money for Windowblinds and Start8. They work outside of the DWM so if you have problems, call Stardock and see what they say. There are way too many people having success to say it is something wrong with AeroGlass. There, I said my piece.
  12. How did you manage to get glass in this area?post-387566-0-72739400-1397319016.jpg If you donwload and install OldNewExplorer 1.7 and install it and then use the LongHorn Evolution theme frome DeviantArt, it will add glass to folder and Browser frames..! Thanks. I have it now. I already have the programs, but guess I did not check the glass option in ONE.
  13. SO THE POINT IS READING Aero Glass (DWMGlass.dll) INFO = Perfectly WORKING Aero Glass for Win 8.1 . I guess I should complain too then, everything is flawless on my end as well Geez guys, this topic is long enough (42 pages!!!) without all this! I mean come on......ummmm, I think I'm doing it now
  14. If you go here http://glass8.berlios.de/themes/theme1.png you will find a slightly different PNG to use in your AeroGlass folder. You will have to remove the png file presently there if there is one. This one has some slight shaded items and more colorful buttons from what I see. Hope this helps
  15. I do not believe this work is necessarily private work as it is open to the public. The project will always be ongoing as Microsoft continues to make changes to the DWM file from time to time. Who know what is in store with Windows 9..... If you have donated, then you use the generated machine code to receive the license key. When that is copied to the AeroGlass folder the watermark will not appear. The machine code is specific to your machine and can only be used on it. This is how BM is controlling being ripped off of his hard work. At present, I believe his donate page is down to be revamped but should be up soon. That is where you would get the license key. The popup when starting up should only be once with the new spring update. This initiates the symbols download. When you close the command window it should not appear again. Remember, this only works with the key in the AeroGlass folder.
  16. I agree that one needs to read very carefully before using any product and then determine if they should try something. If you want BigMuscle to develop newer and better features to this project, then stop with all this gripping and complaining. His site addresses all that is needed to use the program as he has stated time and again. He'll never get anything done if he has to constantly address the same issues over and over. As far as licensing, the cost is nothing to get it in comparison to Stardock or other tweaking programs. I have clients that have paid for bogus security software because their machines got "infected" while browsing web sites. Then they come to me to have it fixed. For the record, I run a Dell-XPS15, fully loaded model. I use StartIsBack 1.6, UxStyle for 8, NewOldExplorer 1.07 and AeroGlass 1.2.1. That is it, and I get great results with well built themes such as DoubleRainbowEi8ht's 'Office 2010' and 'Longhorn Evolution' themes on DeviantArt to name a couple. If you are using other tweakers or customizers on your machines, it could be the reason your having problems. Stop blaming it all on AeroGlass.
  17. This is why everyone should wait and be patient until the official Update 1 comes out. No one knows what MS might change at the eleventh hour for release to the general public. All of this could be moot come Tuesday. Programmers like BM work hard so the rest of us do not have to regedit to get things just to work. Enhancements on his work in the registry are great, but even these are sometimes OS and machine hardware/software specific. I for one can live without the glass features for a few days if MS breaks the DWM. I am sure BM will find how to make it right. Really, it is just about theming, not about what we use the machines for. Many of my programs do not even take advantage of theming, such as Photoshop and Dreamweaver to name a couple. I still have to use them daily even if they look somewhat plain Jane.
