  1. Microsoft wants to go FORWARD. I do not want to go back to the days of Windows for Workgroups 3.11. That worked really well, also. I enjoy the direction Microsoft is headed except for the dreaded Start MENU!
  2. I was successful installing Media Center on my Win 10 TP VMWare installation using the free key Microsoft sent me in 2012!
  3. Yup, all the info to get Aeroglass working just the way you want it is in this forum. I put in the time, and effort to read it. I am sure others are capable of the same.
  4. Have you checked how the transparency appears with the laptop plugged in vs unplugged? Many people forget that a registry setting needs to be changed for the transparency to work with the laptop unplugged.
  5. I never had to do anything special; I've kept up with updates and the (donation key-activated) Aero Glass for Win 8.1 product just downloads the symbols itself from Microsoft online and works. -Noel Yup, it just works for me, too!
  6. You do not need the symbols with the current version of Aeroglass. I am running the current versions with all of the Windows updates, and do not have a problem. You may want to attach your debug log so someone can take a look.
  7. Are you installing the correct version? The programs are different for Windows 8, and Windows 8.1. I have never had any issues with installations on anyone's computer. Since you are new to this forum, I would suggest you start at page 1, and read through all (as of now) 84 pages. I did this, and learned a lot.
  8. Are you on a laptop? Do you have it plugged in or are you running it on battery?
  9. Yes, it sucks for people who own laptops that the first thing they must do upon installing Aeoglass is to change a registry setting. It should be default always on; I mean why do people install it in the first place? SMH!
  10. I agree jaclaz! That's why I have read all 82 pages of this forum. All answers are contained within.
  11. LOL, 98 is even and so is "second." Actually, Windows Me was the third permutation of 98. Three is an odd number, and Me was the quickest, prettiest, and most customizable. I had far less problems with Me than I did with any of the others in the 98 series.
  12. If you think it is the best OS then you wouldn't be using Aero Glass. The best windows microsoft had done is Windows 3.11, Windows 95, Windows 98SE, Windows XP, and Windows 7. If bigmuscle didn't do Aero Glass and others didn't do Start menu's and Windows 7 theme for Windows 8. I still be using Windows 7. Now with Windows 9 Preview coming out in 1 month time hope it be better then Windows 8 I can use whichever enhancements I choose. I would use Windows 8.1 regardless. Actually 3.11 was good, 95 was bad, Windows Millenium, was awesome, as was XP, and 7, but 8.1 blows them all out of the water!
  13. Um, not really. Windows 7 was, IMHO. Windows 8.x was basically one huge error in judgement, trying to treat everything like a smartphone/tablet. And the guy that came up with the brilliant idea of removing the start-button should receive the 'id*** of the Year' Award. 8.1 tries to undo some of the judgment errors of 8.0, but the whole Metro/Desktop switching remains a convoluted hack. Removing the Start Button was the best achievement for Windows 8! I hated that thing. The Metro/Desktop switching is a godsend!
  14. Calling Windows 8/8.1 a toy is an opinion that I do not share with you. My opinion is that Windows 8.1 is simply the best OS that ever graced this fine earth.
  15. I've installed the august patches of windows 8.1 and it still works for me No issues with August Updates on any of my systems!
  16. Actually I can solve your problem rather easily! Don't use Aero Glass at all then... Seriously did you not take your Valium this morning? WPI Guru indeed! lol That is not solving or addressing the problem.
  17. I thought he would have been a bit nicer. Being German, and all. Ich spreche ein bißchen Deutsch!
  18. This is called Enabling Glass on Battery Power, and it has been covered extensively. Start reading here: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/170850-aero-glass-for-win81-125/?p=1082816 The guide by BigMuscle is on his page http://www.glass8.eu/guide.html
  19. I don't know what I have done! Could someone please help! My desktop looks like this!
  20. Also make sure you carefully go through and understand all the options in the Guide section on the site dhjohns linked-to above. For example, if you're trying to run it on a laptop, there's a setting for making it work while on battery. -Noel Exactly, you can also follow simple instructions here. http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/170850-aero-glass-for-win81-125/?p=1082816
