  1. Nintendo are to Bullheaded to survive the post internet era, I still don't understand why online gaming scenario need to be run by a manufacturer why cant it be hosted by a person or a peer to peer setup of some kind.
  2. I found a use for windows 8.1....as an alarm clock and radio...I knew I’d find a use for it someday ;-)

  3. As stupid as .. The Mike Tyson story, LOL gang's of sycophant's, hookers and a pet tiger, massive mansion's, cars which he lost almost overnight. Convicted for rape..rocky starts to sound a bit tame in comparison.
  4. NOT "similar", but you can get a 8.1 ISO through this: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/upgrade-product-key-only http://winsupersite.com/windows-8/windows-81-tip-download-windows-81-iso-windows-8-product-key The only issue AFAIK is that the stupid thingy will download the version that MS finds suitable for the connected machine, i.e. you won't get the x64 version if connected through a machine running 32 bit or viceversa. jaclaz Just so you know you need a retail key for this, not a MAK or OEM key. Its annoying that the ISO seems to be protected by sharks with freakin laserbeams on their for foreheads.

  7. Also if you want the 360 to be able to handle MKV files in MCE then you need to install the, 1. Matroska container format 2. Haali Media Splitter on the PC your streaming from
  8. Thanks for your reply jaclaz, just sticking my foot in the water as I imagine you guys have massive volume of files to store when modding OS’s. Call me old school but i want nothing to do with the cloud I don’t need full redundancy, just if a disk fails I have a chance to recover Let’s pretend I have the cabbage for a decent solution The intended use is for a storage device, my doc's, photos, video's, ISO Images. I just don’t want to have to be bothered downloading them again or re-typing work docs or rediscovering notes ive made about things. Also some of my photos aren’t easy to replace from holidays At the moment I have a $100 AUD external WD 1TB disk with no backup or redundancy ATM I’m thinking QNAP TS-420 4 Bay Turbo NAS and buy some disks (config as RAID 5)
  9. I was thinking about a 4 bay solution to store my files on and with some redundancy if possible http://www.qnap.com Opinions welcome ?
  10. Off topic but is there a similar thing for windows 8.1 yet, digital river links I mean ? I have an activation code on my pc just not an ISO or DVD

They sell a solid platform and i've always been an MS fanboy, I working in an apple centre for years pushing people away from apple because of their steep hardware repair costs. Its seems to me now that I rarely upgrade or need to replace components. The marketers and technology managers have taken over at ms, it makes me sad that no one can see why the platform is slowly becoming irrelevant, The funny thing is they already had the perfect platform for tablet on the Xbox360 LOL. Windows s...

I want to clunk heads together at MS they have the tech they just don’t have the correct vision

  13. I tried setting up just the Streaming functions of windows 8.1 64bit last night and wow can I say how sucktastic the streaming functions are. To get Media Streaming Options in Windows 8.1, press the windows key, then just type Media Streaming Options, after you set that you can access it via running the play video app in xbox 360 app's. Also if using an external drive you have to add it to your video library by right clicking and choosing that option. It starts streaming content and it locks up my Xbox, the video's aren't as nicely handled when just streaming, Way to fail at keeping enthusiasts on-board MS. I want to love Microsoft but its like being in an abusive relationship Long story short i've gone back to windows 7 64bit until I can nut out a decent solution, maybe get a device with pro and pay for MCE and pray that the streaming is a bit better.
  14. I wonder whether anyone knows of a solid product that can replace MCE since it isn't included in windows 8/8.1. i'm looking for something to install on windows 8 so my Xbox can still suck down content from my PC. I would pay for MCE for 8.1 it but its a work laptop and I have to use enterprise :-(.
  15. I don't get what all the surprise is about, I mentioned a while ago that Microsoft was offering companies extended support at a very steep cost. More baffling, they where actually paying part of the cost of consultants to come in from 3rd party companies (1st hand knowledge FYI) to setup migration infrastructure. M$ are very keen to see the death of XP
  16. After working in IT for years I can tell you that corporate culture rarely changes, people tend to do what they have always done. At Microsoft that seems to be charge for version numbers and create overly complicated names for products. Innovation is mostly done by small start-up’s, you rarely see it in established companies full of technology managers not looking to rock the boat.
  17. Sorry guys but I see this as highly unlikely, I work for a large corporate government institution and the document we received says (per pc) x amount for first year then double the next then triple and etc. Microsoft have actually funded consultants to come in an migrate certain parties (in Australia that is). So don't be under the illusion that MS will supply any updates to private users.
