  1. It is all a little bit like watching a train wreck in slow motion. Never seen a train wreck.. might call my brother.
  2. Goes to show, they're stuffing around with the Atlas and the general themes and appearances, instead of innovating a new product. It would be far better off if MS worked on stability, compatibility and work flow. A simple TV tuner is now broken. I have to use VMware to run a licensed 32bit XP, just to run a single 16bit program (MSViewer) -since any 64bit edition of Windows just can't do 16bit... too f'ing hard apparently. Funny how I am not game to either look for or watch any .. um adult material since I feel that Windows is actually like that one way glass we all know about. I know they are watching everything I type or search, and a referral letter to the FBI is only a false move away for sure these days. DRM is hardcore. Not sure this operating system is on my side anymore. Still fails to load thumbnails reliably, or chokes on heavily loaded content folders. Strange pauses and 'not responding' messages from any version at least a few times a day. (Did I click something.. sorry for interrupting) jeez Didn't they preview Cairo or something in Jurassic Park?, that was the future....
  3. Ahh, Thanks for that, plus the difference a day makes. Symbols have downloaded, Classic Shell is re-installed. Everything feels normal again. So there is merit to opt into the slow release fork apparently Cheers.
  4. It has broken my little AverTV PCI-e TV Tuner... the software/driver has survived since transitions from Windows8 to 10TP and both recent builds. (Might just try to reinstall, but you see my point) Perhaps try some compatibility modes.... Actually I was generally impressed how each Windows versions installed without much fuss... until now. And ClassicShell doesn't work now either, and Aeroglass predictably too. (Classic Shell won't be fixed anytime soon says the support forum) Glass should self restore next symbol server update in days or a week, and maybe I will try StartisBack1.7beta instead- or gel into the new Windows 10 thing. Its worked so far. Says a lot for software compatibility really. I've had to 'repair' VMware workstation each Win update too due to an error of some dll that gets borked. But hey, we got new flat looking folder icons- and I can disable the search icon on the task bar that has only ever worked once, usually I get a large white blank box anyway. I had to disable OneDrive again in Group Policy. (No cloud for me, I have a simple NAS on my network that serves me well, and limited internet data) Internet Cloud = $$$, default should be off. Tethered devices and extortionist pricing for wireless is just one reason. Maybe adding native .mkv container support is subtle drm integration for popular torrented files.... Still- No new screen savers or WMP visualizations since XP (Excuse anything Vista had.. those were taken away), many dialog box elements are also prehistoric. You wonder how deep the code rot is if these Build updates are so huge each time. I'll let the joke continue.... The little es penryn is happily running anything useful in XP or OSX in VMware anyway. The host OS is only the wheels on this bus. Cheers
  5. It seems to partially restore mouse scroll behavior .. at least with that change you can adjust the volume slider with the scroll wheel without hovering over the slider 'exactly'. Now it will scroll as long as the mouse is within the volume box/window. A loosening of tolerances.... lol But move outside the still active box, the inactive window behind gets control. Like this page. Overall better than before, but should be a setting in the mouse control panel. There is even a tab for wheel settings. Thanks Noel.
  6. Thanks Monroe, I do use ccleaner, and have for a looong time. I did have automatic updates switched off, and hadn't bothered yet to check for a newer version. It was misreporting the version number (saying 8.1 pro), and expected to see an update eventually. Cheers.
  7. @f23948 Well, you were doing the very definition of spamming a forum. We've been coming here for over a year following development of Glass and other software. Why change for you? Or are you trying to earn affiliate points by posting rubbish for a click through..... Now I'm guilty of feeding a troll.
  8. Hmm, Still not loaded for me..... Retail lags Enterprise then.... Who knows. I tried 'deleting' the symbols folder to force a retry... no joy. Only dwmcore.pdb is available for now.... for me. Whatever... I have a car to build. Edit, A day later and the symbols downloaded properly now... Plus new Preview loaded perfectly.
  9. Jarring is now on my new list of hated words of the millenium Along with, Journey (life) Passion (My) re-imagined Probably more, without going into diabolical corporate lingo.
  10. Really?, I re enabled AeroGlass to test, but download for uDWM.pdb not found. Symbols folder has only dwmcore.pdb so far. Some Aero is restored, but DWM incompatibility box still appears. Edit, Looks like NoelC has same problem.
  11. I have to agree with Dracken, I have grown on the square style of buttons. The general theme of Windows 10 is fine, I still run a version made by a user 'Gill' for my Win8.1 system. Have not even tried it yet on TP. Restores a bit of shadow and a touch of glow I think.. it is very subtle. Losing the side borders on Win10TP... um, Borders on ridiculous if we compare with the over sized ones we had in 8. I tweaked my metrics to reduce those. White min/max buttons look nice in your theme. Cheers.
  12. That scroll behavior you talk about Noel, I've realized it makes using the volume control slider on the taskbar just that little bit more difficult to use. I'd often play a video on utube or similar, click the volume icon and scroll up or down during loud ads or similar. As long as the slider box was the last thing clicked, you could control it. Now the mouse must hover perfectly over the slider zone.. or it won't obey. Rather annoying.
  13. I looked at the log files and couldn't see anything that looked wrong.. assuming I even know what I'm looking at. But I think the first error is in the first sentence. Win8.1Installer.. Why? Even if lazy, You need only extract the aeroglass zip to where you want it, and run the 'schedule.bat' from the same folder to configure a task on start. There really isn't anything to install as such. http://glass8.eu/stuff/schedule.bat Secondly I have always put an 'aeroglass' folder in the root of C: , (as recommended), and never had an issue with updates or symbols or keys. BM has answered many odd situations with nested folder permissions... just keep it simple. As soon as I corrected my key (I reasonably assume it changed now my laptop has a fresh ssd), everything performed perfectly. I'd run the unins000.exe (or manually remove the task from scheduler then delete the folder), and do it again properly like I wrote above. Easier than guessing.
  14. Long story cut very short. My father, approaching 70. Was demanding a Windows 7 disc to rebuild his new/spare laptop my brother gave him months ago. He already had one, but somehow he couldn't make it happen. I gave him the link to the Windows 10 Preview blah. He burnt the iso, installed a fresh system.... Then moaned since last friday. (This is the simplified version) "Why did they rearrange the deckchairs, I can't find my files... etc" Today i logged in with TeamViewer, installed ClassicShell. Showed that really nothing has changed, other than some weird deletions and new menus. Now he is convinced his Win7 hybrid is workable, but not convinced. Truth is, this is just the kind of market Microsoft are missing out of. If you or I buy our parents (if you can) a new laptop/tablet for christmas... How intuitive is it that they can navigate around without assistance. My father (bless him) failed when he called to ask how to turn it off.
  15. Yup, Log into www.glass8.eu Goto 'Support' page Login with your email and zip/post code. If you were approved/whatever as a tester you will see a link to download near the bottom under 'Private testing builds' The debug log/cmd box shows as Version 1.2.6 DEBUG. Cheers.
  16. Feedback to compare apples. So the start menu isn't transparant for me, like on http://glass8.eu/win_future.html Might try to temporary remove ClassicShell 4.1 to test if blocking. AeroGlass 1.2.6 is working on Win10TP-64 here via aerohost method. Used schedule.bat to install. Had to generate a new key.. old Win8 key for this machine no longer works... weird. (I did clone Win8 to a new SSD before updating to Win10TP.. maybe that is why, machine ID changed?) Then symbols downloaded correctly. Watermark says for Win8.1... If we need to have it, can't it be more specific?! (Win10TP) Whatever... minor detail. Basicly it is working. Later I will try to load some atlas, and muck about. Thanks BM.
  17. Now how did I do that?? Hint, To go forward one must look to the past. Look in task bar It will probably crash, and BM will laugh at me.
  18. I have on my drive, ~16 versions of AeroGlass for 8.1 alone (Prototype/Alpha/Beta/RC etc) And there is more. We can be sure BigMuscle works hard to provide reliable code. Microsoft could learn about listening to feedback like BM does.. .sean
  19. I have oft wondered if an entire OS could live inside the enormous caches inside todays CPUs. Several megabytes depending on yer machine. When I was pleasantly surprised the other day when I came across this tiny OS that fits on a floppy. http://www.menuetos.net/ Yay for real tight programming. Well beyond my abilities. But just shows what can be done on Modern HW. Remember the original Macs and Ataris had their entire OS inside 128-512k ROMs, Full GUI. Limited technology sure, but that was the standard of the day.. But they were even Pretty, while functional! Bitmapped graphics are almost limitless. Cheers, Sean.
  20. Right, Disable the value that prevents glass disable on battery thinking it will help it be enabled on battery boot..... No that didn't help either. Also got a lovely screen today trying to run VirtualBox for the first time ....After I remembered I was running v1.3, had to open explorer, locate the directory, rename the file- the open task manager to close the dwm process to 'reboot' without glass. There has to be a quicker way to disable glass without the hassle. I spent at least a minute looking for aerohost to kill until I remembered I'm using Win8. More exciting feedback on software usability. Cheers!
  21. Battery logger Current power status (1 - 0) is 1, 1 WM_POWERBROADCAST (0xA, 0x0) received Power status changed (1 - 0) to 0, 1 -------------- WM_POWERBROADCAST (0xA, 0x0) received Power status changed (1 - 0) to 0, 1 -------------- WM_POWERBROADCAST (0xA, 0x0) received Power status changed (1 - 0) to 1, 1 -------------- WM_POWERBROADCAST (0xA, 0x0) received Power status changed (1 - 0) to 1, 1 -------------- Run with power connected, then unplugged... then reconnected..
  22. Debug.zip Here is the logs, one for battery boot, another for pwr. Cheers, Sean
