  1. SP can't add apps, it is not its purpose, and even if it does, it will grow to a humongous file size, and then dialup/56k users will have to wait forever to d/l it. Not good. But if u wanna brag about apps/tools/tweaks/etc lists, please check out mine [99.99% free(ware)]: http://www.mdgx.com/toy.htm Subsections [different pages]: http://www.mdgx.com/fw.htm http://www.mdgx.com/xptoy.htm http://www.mdgx.com/speed.htm http://www.mdgx.com/dos.htm http://www.mdgx.com/w31toy.htm#W31 Free soft list: http://www.mdgx.com/free.htm Enjoy.
  2. Please download INNOFILE.ZIP: http://www.mdgx.com/9s2m/INNOFILE.ZIP and then read INNOFILE.TXT. Hope this helps.
  3. NirCmd example of use: nircmd.exe killprocess iexplore.exe NirCmd [free GPL]: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/nircmd.html
  4. whocrazy: Sorry, mate, I don't have any experience with Pinnacle hardware. The only external USB devices I'm using are a "NIC on a stick" [siemens SpeedStream ethernet 100/10] hooked up to my cable modem and a Logitech joystick [3D WingMan Extreme]. I'm afraid I can't help. rhelic: You need a serious attitude adjustment [and that's the nicest way to say this].
  5. You're right. It's always better to disable/inactivate/etc the program/TSR/process/etc from its own function, *if* it has one, but unfortunately not all do have such feature. I usually recommend using Mike Lin's Startup CPL for this job [freeware]: http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml I've got more similar tools here [all free(ware)] = please scroll down the list: http://www.mdgx.com/toy.htm#ENH But one can also use msconfig.exe [already installed by Windows 98/ME, and don't need to pay anything to get it], no matter if it is updated/replaced by 98se2me, because msconfig doesn't remain resident in memory, it exits after it does its job. Msconfig only modifies the registry values [same as Startup CPL] or startup files [autoexec.bat, config.sys, system.ini, win.ini]. Disabling a program/TSR/process from starting every time with Windows, seems a little extreme, *unless* a particular program takes up too many resources, CPU cycles, and/or tries to send UDP packets to its "mothership" server [i'm talking about spyware here], or if you don't really need its services by having it loaded in memory all the time [like a firewall or anti-virus tool, which must be resident in order to operate]. Things u don/t need in memory and are most annoying on most PCs I've seen: - RealOne/RealPlayer tray icon - Apple QuickTime tray icon - AOL tray icon See this huge lists of such annoying adware/spyware/resource hogs [under the "FYI:" section]: http://www.mdgx.com/newtip2.htm#ANNOY Hope this helps.
  6. Your wish is my command... I fixed 2G.INF which creates the game shortcuts. You don't need to add the folder name to the "Start in:" box anymore. Please d/l the revised 5-19-2005 98SE2ME edition.
  7. I believe your question is answered in the readme, please read the "EXTREMELY IMPORTANT" + "FAQ" chapters:http://www.mdgx.com/9s2m/READ1ST.TXT Hope this helps.

  9. I have replaced the DOS commands DEL + RD with WININIT.INI code [dirnul=C:\9S2M]. Hope this fixes the error you had.I didn't notice any errors on my PC, but since you are using 98SE French, there may be differences in directory/files names, and the DOS code was deleting only English directories + files. So all those lines that were giving you grief in 98MEDOS.BAT, are now replaced by these: IF EXIST %winbootdir%\WININIT.* C:\9!M\ATTRIB.COM/B +A -H -R -S %winbootdir%\WININIT.*>NUL IF EXIST %winbootdir%\WININIT.INI GOTO WIX ECHO [Rename]>>%winbootdir%\WININIT.INI :WIX ECHO DIRNUL=C:\9S2M>>%winbootdir%\WININIT.INI ECHO.>>%winbootdir%\WININIT.INIPlease d/l the revised 5-17-2005 98SE2ME edition: http://www.mdgx.com/4 I could not reproduce this bug on my PC: PINBALL.EXE not copied to %windir%\PINBALL . Maybe the French WinME CD CABs have different structure or CABs reside in different dir name? On English WinME CD pinball.exe is inside WIN_17.CAB and CABs dir name is WIN9X . Or maybe pinball.exe exists under a different name in the WinME CD CABs? If u can get more details, please let me know. Hope this helps.
  10. I strongly recommend to close all opens programs/TSRs/processes/residents/DLLs etc before installing 98SE2ME. This is stated in the "EXTREMELY IMPORTANT" section of the readme:http://www.mdgx.com/9s2m/READ1ST.TXT Hope this helps.
  11. Eck + PsycoUnc: The autoexec.bat error is now fixed. Although I have no idea why this happened, I have not thouched that code for over 2 months now. ;( The weird error was: the appended autoexec.bat line to run 98MEDOS.BAT was *added* at the end of the last line [on the same line] instead of being added *as* last line [as separate line]. [?!] WebMatze: Merci beaucoup pour votre traduction. B) If you want to update the French translation, the only difference from the 5-15-2005 version is this code at the end of E0!X.BAT: ECHO.>>C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT ECHO IF EXIST C:\9!M\98MEDOS.BAT C:\9!M\98MEDOS.BAT>>C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT ECHO.>>C:\AUTOEXEC.BATThis corrects the error above. Thanks. 98se2me doesn't have any screen savers, as far as I know they are all identical with the ones from 98se.The 8.3 ["~"] long file name adapted to short file name convention [NameNumericTail DWORD value] exists [only if previously modified manually by a REG file or by a tweaking tool like TweakUI, X-Setup etc] in the registry as: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem] "NameNumericTail"=dword:00000001and is probably changed by 98SE2ME option 3 [not the other options], because option 3 installs shell32.dll from WinME, which has to be registered into the registry for proper operation: %windir%\SYSTEM\REGSVR32.EXE /I /S %windir%\SYSTEM\SHELL32.DLL %windir%\SYSTEM\REGSVR32.EXE /S %windir%\SYSTEM\SHELL32.DLL and when that happens, it probably resets the reg 8.3 value. I can't fix that, because some people decided not to change that option, and others decided to change it. So it's up to the respective user how they want that option handled on their systems. You can change it back by using TweakUI 1.33 [free from MS]: http://download.microsoft.com/download/win...-US/Tweakui.exe or see this guide for more details + a warning: http://www.mdgx.com/newtip9.htm#NUMTAIL Hope this helps.

  13. Got the email. Thank you very much.On my "tweaked" 98SE I couldn't make the exe run at all, it returns a memory address error. I blame it on using UMBPCI mem manager. [?] I'll let u know if I can make it work. Wow... 3 MB [> 100000] worth of servers, that's quite an achievement. And I thought I was the only 1 digging for HOSTS all over the net.
  14. That sucks, man... Well, eliminating the defective hardware option, have u tried to install in this order: 1. Gape's SP 2.0: http://exuberant.ms11.net/98sesp.html 2. 98SE2ME: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=37302 3. Maximus-Decim's Unofficial Native USB Drivers: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=43605 4. Whatever drivers are necessary for your hardware. And don't forget to enable *all* USB settings u may have in the mobo BIOS. Beyond that, options become pretty limited, I'm afraid.
  15. You can simulate a Win32 [32-bit] environment by using DOSLFN [free, open source]: http://www.geocities.com/jadoxa/doslfn/ Then u can use CABARC, PKUNZIP, or any other unarchiving tool that otherwise works only from within Windows. Just make sure your tool is capable of handling LFNs. Example: add this line to your BATch file used to extract all files to your HD: DOSLFN t+ w+ le Then add a line for your unzipping tool. If I may, I'd like to suggest using 7ZA.EXE, part of 7-zip, or as separate DOS console zipping/unzipping tool [free GPL]: 7-Zip v4.18 Beta 32-bit ZIPping/unZIPping integrated Windows Explorer shell extension + DOS box command line tool for Windows 9x/NT4/2000/ME/XP/2003 supports most popular compression formats: ZIP, 7Z, RAR, CAB, ARJ, GZIP, BZ2, TAR, CPIO + RPM, highest ZIP compression ratio (2-10% better than most other ZIPpers) otherwise attainable only by ACE/CAB/RAR formats, highly customizable (free GPL): http://www.7-zip.org/ 7-Zip Shell extension + DOS box/console tool [1.02 KB]: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/sevenzip/7z418b.exe 7-Zip DOS box tool [320 KB]: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/sevenzip/7za417b.zip 7z format is 1 of the best available, especially for large archives. I use 7-zip to compress 98SE2ME. And u don't need to put these tools [+ batch file] on a floppy, they are small enuf to fit on the same CD where your 98SE archive resides. Just make sure to select bootable CD when u burn it. One last thing: depending on which burning tool u're using, u may need the boot.bin file. U can probably find it in most [if not all] of these guides: http://www.msfn.org/articles.php?action=cat&acid=1 Hope this helps.
  16. You can't notice any slowdown even with Web View enabled, if u are not subscribed to any channels or have any web sites displayed on your Dekstop that update periodically their info or are scheduled to periodically d/l stuff, and that of course is more obvious if u have a slower CPU, and eventually older computer hardware. Webcheck.dll has only 1 function: to check servers/IP addresses for updates, and only if set to do so by enabling/scheduling channels, news, updates, desktop features which require downloading files from the internet, etc.... FYI: The 3 SENS*.DLL files I mentioned earlier are also used by Briefcase + Web Synchronize Wizard, so if u use any of those features, u need to keep them in %windir%\system .
  17. One person cannot speak for all of us here, but I can speak for the rest of us, you ARE welcome here. You asked me how I got to that driver download page? Probably same as you did, searching at Google. And same as you, I've clicked on the manufacturer link found at an Australian site that was selling the Excel TV card. But never mind that, it didn't help you anyway. What may help: if you wish to send me the driver [that doesn't work on 98SE] you have on that vendor provided CD [zipped through email], I can take look at the executable, and eventually extract the files, and if we're lucky, maybe make them work with 98SE, by modifying the INF file. My email is found at this page: http://www.mdgx.com/form.htm Just click on the blue E-mail link, and then attach your ZIP file. If you decide to do this, and if we are successful, then you will need to install: 1. Gape's Service Pack 2.0: http://exuberant.ms11.net/98sesp.html 2. and then Maximus-Decim's Native USB Drivers: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=43605 in this order. These 2 updates will enable 98SE to [hopefully] accept your USB card driver. Hope this helps.
  18. I'm also using XP SP2 on my main machine, but 98SE is more fun to" toy" with.
  19. There shouldn't be any reason I can think of that your computer(s)/laptop(s) should periodically or otherwise check/verify the connection among/between them, and by all means, not by running winipcfg. [what?!] When you connect PCs/laptops/terminals/servers/clients/etc they stay connected unless you [or the OS if u program/schedule it] on purpose run(s) a network/LAN/WAN/P2P/etc timeout/idle/disconnect/shutdown/sever tool/service/TSR/process, and that is not needed by the proper operation of your connection. MS made a big thing out of Web View [part of MS IE integration into the OS UI] back in the late 90s [1997-1999], to force users to use the default, built-in, bundled [or whatever u want to call it] web browser. But the world started to notice, and why do u think is MS involved in so many law suits nowadays? One of the biggest beefs lots of people had with MS was their "browser integration". Ms said that everybody must be on the internet sooner or later, and if they are, better make it the MS's own internet. :-( The trick to completely remove webcheck.dll from the registry and memory, is to also: 1. delete all these registry keys from a REG file [cut+paste into Notepad and save as NOWEBCHK.REG (example)]: REGEDIT4 [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\CLSID\{E6FB5E20-DE35-11CF-9C87-00AA005127ED}] [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\CLSID\{ABBE31D0-6DAE-11D0-BECA-00C04FD940BE}] [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\CLSID\{F5175861-2688-11d0-9C5E-00AA00A45957}] [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\CLSID\{08165EA0-E946-11CF-9C87-00AA005127ED}] [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\CLSID\{E3A8BDE6-ABCE-11d0-BC4B-00C04FD929DB}] [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\CLSID\{E8BB6DC0-6B4E-11d0-92DB-00A0C90C2BD7}] [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\CLSID\{7D559C10-9FE9-11d0-93F7-00AA0059CE02}] [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\CLSID\{E6CC6978-6B6E-11D0-BECA-00C04FD940BE}] [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\CLSID\{D8BD2030-6FC9-11D0-864F-00AA006809D9}] [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\CLSID\{7FC0B86E-5FA7-11d1-BC7C-00C04FD929DB}] [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\CLSID\{1BE1F766-5536-11D1-B726-00C04FB926AF}] [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SyncMgr\Handlers\{7FC0B86E-5FA7-11d1-BC7C-00C04FD929DB}] [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ShellServiceObjectDelayLoad] [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WebCheck] [-HKEY_USERS\.Default\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Webcheck] 2. then delete/move/rename these 5 files from %windir%\system [usually C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM]: SENS.DLL SENSAPI.DLL SENSCFG.DLL WEBCHECK.DLL LOADWC.EXE Note that these 5 files are updated to newer versions by MS IE 5.5 + 6.0, all editions. FYI: If using Briefcase or Synchronize Web Wizard, u need to keep the 3 SENS*.DLL files in %windir%\system . You may have to reboot after running REG file above, to make sure none of these files are still resident in memory. If u do all this, the periodic checker will never come back to haunt u. Of course, it depends if you use Web View on your computer, which per se consumes extra CPU cycles. If u do, and if u also subscribe to any news/weather/ticker/stock/etc channels, which update their info periodically by downloading packets from their servers, than u do need webcheck.dll + loadwc.exe files + reg entries. But IMHO I'm against using Web View, and anything useless that bogs down my CPU. Then of course, we can go deeper, and instead of removing Webcheck, we can tweak its security policies, to effectively disable webview/channel checking/logging/loading/scheduling/downloading/etc [scroll down to where u see "MS IE 4.0x/5.xx/6.xx Web Check tool (%windir%\System\Loadwc.exe launched by %windir%\System\Webcheck.dll)"]: http://www.mdgx.com/newtip9.htm#RESTRICT particularly these 2 DWORD registry values: [HKEY_USERS\.Default\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Webcheck] "NoScheduledUpdates"=dword:00000001 "NoChannelLogging"=dword:00000001 Make sure they both show 1 in the Decimal box. More WebCheck tweaking: run Regedit and go to: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WebCheck] "LoadSens"="auto" "LoadLCE"="auto" Replace auto with no . Some of these settings may require rebooting to take effect. Hope this helps.
  20. Not even close the "best site" [you're too kind, chankya], but please check my DOS tools page anyway (99% freeware or free source): http://www.mdgx.com/dos.htm Hope this helps.
  21. azagahl: Guess what, I found the last official CIP500 version [unfortunately it's the crashing SR7 ]: http://www.radsoft.net/gallery/cip/CIP500.exe Radsoft is the developer. They don't distribute it anymore, because they went shareware, and CIP is now part of their "flagship" soft called Extreme Power Tools 2005. Actually this is the same ver as the 1 u sent at: http://sitelance.com/files/CIP500.exe You're right, the best is SR6. I've posted it SR6 here and also included it in HFT.ZIP: http://www.mdgx.com/hosts.php Thnx again.
  22. Closest I can tell, your card is made by ECS Elitegroup: http://www.ecs.com.tw/ and if that's true, your card name must be EZ-TV Tuner Card TVP3XP , because that's the only one they make. I don't believe they make nor sell this product anymore, the only place I could find it is at the Driver page [which according to them supports all Windows releases]: http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWeb/Downloads/Pro...uID=102&LanID=0 Direct link to driver [5 MB, USA server]: http://64.124.27.138/ecs/driver/peripheral/EZ-TV.zip Hope this helps.
