the_gui: I have a few questions about ME SP1 2.02 beta 4: Where did you get VMOUSE.VXD 4.90.3003 from? I can't find the hotfix which installs this anywhere. D3DIM700.DLL 4.07.00.0723 is older than the one from DirectX 9.0c, which is 4.09.00.0902. Your older one should be removed. Are these Unicode? If they are, they should be removed: MSVCP50.DLL 5.00.7051 MSVCP60.DLL 6.02.3104.0 MSVCRT.DLL 6.10.9844.0 RICHED.DLL + RICHED32.DLL = can be safely removed, they are from WinME setup CD-ROM CABs files. You probably got them from CRYPTME.EXE at my site [i added them for completeness]. EXTRAC32.EXE = is older than Win2003 CD version, which is the one I use in 98SE2ME. The one you have is from WinXP SP2. This older one has larger file size, too. If you install 98SE2ME, you'll find the newer one in C:\9!M . BTW: Uploaded here: * Unofficial Windows ME Service Pack 1 (SP1) v2.02 Beta 4: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=61407 ME SP1 [27.5 MB, English, free]: http://www.mdgx.com/spx/MESP202B4.EXE HTH

True. You can use any version of iexpress.exe + wextract.exe [i use newest from 2003 SP1 + 2003 CD], but you have to use older makecab.exe from IEAK 6.0 SP1, otherwise file date/time stamps will be lost.

98SE2ME = Killer Replacements: ME -> 98 SE
MDGx replied to MDGx's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
When you installed Gape's SP2, if you haven't selected to overwrite newer USER.EXE + USER32.DLL files with older ones, this did not work.If re-installing SP 2.1a didn't fix this, you may want to replace USER*.* files manually, as quoted from READ1ST.TXT [the "98SE2ME.PIF COMPLETE GUIDE" section, under "* Option 2:"]: READ1ST.TXT HTH -
[RELEASE] Windows 9x Power Pack v4.1 RELEASED!
MDGx replied to jimmsta's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
jimmsta: You may wish to upload the PowerPack somewhere else, like Major Geeks and/or Softpedia, because your download link doesn't work: http://repository.jimmsta.com/w9xpp/index....nloads&id=2 Nor does your main page: http://www.jimmsta.com/ Probably too high traffic? FYI: I've added a link to this forum here: http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#98SE and at my front page [under "Windows 98/98 SE/ME Updates + Patches"]: http://www.mdgx.com/ I would like to change the MSFN link to your home page for the PowerPack [i presume you have 1], because MSFN now requires subscription even to read posts. But because your site is down, I'll have to wait till it'll be back up again, hopefully soon. -

137GB limit - ESDI_506.PDR and other limits
MDGx replied to Petr's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
LLXX: Suggestion: You may wish to ask Gape to close this thread and eventually merge both [if possible], since you started this new one: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=78592 which will have the links to your new driver. Or wait until you release the driver and then close/merge this old thread. This way all comments/questions/etc will be posted in the new one from now on. Plus, after you release the driver, the new thread needs to be made a sticky. HTH -

98SE2ME = Killer Replacements: ME -> 98 SE
MDGx replied to MDGx's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
RSRCMTR.EXE is extracted from WinME setup CAB and copied to %windir% only if another RSRCMTR.EXE file is already present in %windir%. Otherwise RSRCMTR.EXE is not copied anywhere. I did this [please see related C:\9!M\E0!X.BAT lines = open it in Notepad] because some people [myself included ] either moved RSRCMTR.EXE from %windir% somewhere else or deleted it. Thanks for the MM clarification. I haven't had time to test it anyway. I got your PM with the hex code to patch shell32.dll in order for MM to work. I'll do this [eventually] in the near future. I also need a tool [do you know any?] to create that patch and then apply it to the original file. I presume shell32.dll must be the one from WinME setup CD. Or I could use [probably, did no test] the hexed versions of MM by X-max, which are part of his 98SE Upgrade pack: http://www.bpa23.host.sk/wupg.html Thanks. -
You probably meant these DLLs:HHSETUP.DLL ITIRCL.DLL ITSS.DLL Multiple instances of HHCTRLUI.DLL are installed in the %windir%\system\MUI folder, under specific subfolders for each available language. The only newer HHCTRLUI.DLL I know of comes from Win2003 SP1: http://www.mdgx.com/ws3toy.htm#SP1 and may or may not work with 9x Oses, because it may contain Unicode. Unicode is not understood by 9x OSes, unless a particular app uses UNICOWS.DLL specific code: http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm#UNI I'm not familiar with iscript.dll . Those newer DLLs your friend has, are probably from this update: http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm#HHU which [except for HHCTRLUI.DLL from 2003 SP1] installs all newest files needed for 9x OSes. If Gape's SP 2.1a: http://exuberant.ms11.net/98sesp.html has older files, he will include the new ones in the next release. [?] HTH

Thanks for your kind help.I have added your tutorial link here: http://www.mdgx.com/drv.htm#DRV Did you know about this one: http://www.98-drivers.com/ Also points to an ipod USB drivers tutorial. I have it linked at my "drv.htm#DRV" page above. The ipod USB driver tip may not work with 98 FE, because of primitive USB support [don't quote me on this, I have not tested]. If you'd like to help, please post a link to the promo I've posting around: http://www.mdgx.com/spx/ at some forums/web sites you know might be visited by potential 98/ME users. Then please post here the links for everybody to read + enjoy. Thanks for caring. Best wishes. -
98 FE + 98 SE + ME updates + patches + (hot)fixes
MDGx replied to MDGx's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
It does by default, but some people either delete manually c:\windows\command and its files or use 98lite to delete it. I had this problem some time ago with somebody who wanted to install 98SE2ME, but previously used 98lite to delete all files in c:\windows\command . That's why I include start.exe in all packages. Last Patchday --> persuade M$ to extend support for Windows 9
MDGx replied to winxpi's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Please see the Windows 98 + ME *still* alive campaign: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=78600 -
Hello every1, I have started a "Windows 98 + ME *still* alive Campaign" because of the hype in the media lately about the so-called impending doom of all 98/98SE/ME OSes, due to the recent M$ termination of support for Windows 98, 98SE + ME as of July 11 2006. And when it comes to opinions, everybody is an expert... they basically say to upgrade to 2000, XP, Vista or Linux, or drop dead Fred, or lameo, n00b etc... Yeah, right. Fortunately we know better. This is *not* a request for M$ to reconsider providing support for 98/ME, because they won't, no matter what. This is *not* a promotion for my site *nor* any other web site/forum/blog/etc. This is just a guide to available Windows 98/98 SE/ME updates, tips, fixes and web sites that provide everything needed to run 98/98 SE/ME OSes. Campaign promo [feel free to link to this page]: http://www.mdgx.com/spx/ URL above contains a list of web sites where campaign promo has been posted so far. NEW: Campaign logos [822 KB, ZIPPed] Anybody wants to join in? Please take a minute and post a link to this promo at as many web sites + forums as you wish, especially at major sites that matter, like CNN, PC World, C|Net, Internet Week, Computer World, Major Geeks etc, even at M$ forums if possible. Popular 98/ME forums. I do appreciate greatly your valuable input, time + concern. But please keep this thread strictly about this subject, all other ideas how to improve 98/ME etc, should be posted in their own separate forums. Thanks in advance. Long live 98SE B)

How to "wrap" a .BAT file or .VBS file in an .EXE
MDGx replied to krick's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Oh, I do that all the time with some of my friends' PCs, who are not quite what you would call computer savvy. I fix/update some of their registry keys/values and sometimes even delete temp/cache files by running INF files "wrapped" inside EXEs created with iexpress. FYI: I don't know if you know... among other things, you can create shortcuts to files of folders using INF files. HTH -
Link21: We have tolerated you way too long in these forums. If you don't have anything contructive or useful to say, please refrain from hateful and flaming postings. We already got the point you don't like Win9x OSes, but we don't care to see your hateful posts all over the place, every single day. Next time I'll ask the mods to ban you from MSFN forums, and I bet I'm not the only one who doesn't like your inappropriate behaviour. Thanks for listening. I really hope you learn and grow up.
