  1. Thanks a lot. I got your updates, I'll post them probably tomorrow, time permitting. Please send revised Q912919.EXE . I'll add USP10.DLL from WS919136 to RICHED*.EXE also tomorrow, time permitting. I also got your older NT updates. I'll post them in the near future. I'll let you know when. Thanks.

  3. I have tried the New York Mets official web page, and had no problems. I used Win98 SE + Flash 9 [latest] + Sun Java 1.50 update 2 [older]. I have tried this also on my WinXP SP2 computer, with same versions of Sun Java + Flash. No problems. Microsoft JVM is also installed on both my Win98 SE + XP SP2, but it is disabled from Sun Java control panel. Never had problems running either Java nor Flash. Java control panel always worked for me. The only thing is, I have not tried Sun Java 1.50 update 7 yet. Download links: - Sun Java [latest versions]: http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm#JAVA - Flash [all versions]: http://www.mdgx.com/toy.htm#SHFL IMHO: I don't think this issue is related to either Java or Flash, but to bad/poor/sloppy design on certain web sites. I would contact the webmasters of such web sites and ask them to test their scripts in same environments as yours, and eventually revise/rewrite the scripts to make sure they are compatible with all [newer] versions of Java + Flash out there and all newer Windows OSes, and eventually put in place server side scripts to disable Java/Flash/old browsers/etc if detected older versions they consider obsolete/buggy/unworthy supporting/etc. HTH

  6. When you installed Gape's SP2, if you haven't selected to overwrite newer USER.EXE + USER32.DLL files with older ones, this did not work.If re-installing SP 2.1a didn't fix this, you may want to replace USER*.* files manually, as quoted from READ1ST.TXT [the "98SE2ME.PIF COMPLETE GUIDE" section, under "* Option 2:"]: READ1ST.TXT The computer still doesn’t shut down with 98se2me installed. I have tried the above suggestion plus all the normal 98SE tricks including disabling system restore!!! Strangely the computer “system restarts” correctly. It hangs just before the message “it is now safe to switch off your computer” The computer is an AT type. Any more ideas.Sounds to me like your shutdown problem is not related to 98SE2ME, but to some buggy system file(s) and/or system setting(s).I've never heard before of any shutdown issues due to installing 98SE2ME. Most common setting that usually fixes this, is to disable "FastReboot", as described here: http://www.mdgx.com/98-1.htm#98ESS://http:.../98-1.htm#98ESS More tips here: http://www.mdgx.com/98-5.htm#FWUE://http://www.mdgx.com/98-1.htm#98ESS:...m/98-5.htm#FWUE</a> FYI: System Restore installs + works only in WinME, not in Win98, no matter the 98 edition. 13. I think PROBLEMCHYLD needed to shut down ALL of the Mcafee software first before installing the packs. These are 2 different issues...I meant that 98SE2ME does not interfere with any software proper operation. But 98SE2ME [same as many other programs] must install/replace system files which may be protected by resident tools like McAfee, Symantec and other similar apps. Therefore, when one installs software which must replace/update/etc system files, such protection tools must be disabled, otherwise installation process may terminate, generate errors/lockups etc. 98SE2ME.EXE installer says clearly: Close all other applications (if any) before installing 98SE2ME. 16. Looks like visitor reading is back in business. Thanks a lot, guys. Best wishes, MDGx
  17. Thanks for the info, guys. I did notice the 4.0b change, but that's only for internal use, the actual iexpress INF update won't take in account the product version, only the file version. Edit: The product version should not be changed, 4.0 means the Win95/98/ME/NT4 line of OSes. There is no such thing as 4.0b WinOS. 2000 is product line 5.0, XP/2003 is 5.1 and Vista will probably be 5.2 or 6.0 [?]. And the file version must always be newer [larger number] than the previous release [M$ came up with that rule], so the INF installer can overwrite the older file with the newer one. IMHO, I strongly recommend to use 4.10.2225 [the most compatible so far, and already has all up-to-date patches] to create the 48-bit LBA driver. The original 4.10.2222 has bugs, which were already fixed by M$ in 4.10.2223, 4.10.2225 + 4.10.2226 [you can leave the last one aside, because that fix applies strictly to IBM portables]. If you patched the buggy 4.10.2222, the fixes implemented by M$ in 2223 + 2225 would be lost, and that's not a good thing. And, besides, proper patching should be cumulative. So, LLXX, if possible, at your convenience, let me know if you can patch 4.10.2225. And you can name it whatever you wish, as long as it's above 2226. Thanks.
  18. Congratulations + thanks for the driver. Mr. R. Loew is not going to be happy his $10 "shareware" driver now has better freeware competition. I can't test it either, all my drives are < or = to 120 GB. Question: Which ESDI_506.PDR version did you use, 4.10.2225 or 4.10.2226 ? Best to use 4.10.2225 because this is the most compatible and up to date. Suggestion: No matter which version you used, file version should be changed to reflect the update and to install properly over any other older version that might exist in %windir%\system\iosubsys . Your new driver should have 4.10.2227 [1 notch above the newest one by M$]. FYI: I have created an iexpress installer with backup [original file (if any) renamed to ESDI_506.ORI], uninstall + restore [original file (if any) restored from ESDI_506.ORI back to ESDI_506.PDR] Control Panel Add/Remove Programs capabilities. I took the liberty and changed file version to 4.10.2227 using XVI32 [freeware hex editor]: http://www.chmaas.handshake.de/delphi/free...xvi32/xvi32.htm I also took the liberty and added the links to your 2 forums into the README.TXT: README.TXT opens for reading whenever one installs the driver. 24. Another forum member sent me this: Visitors banned from reading... http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=78928 because of [?]... http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=78584 IMHO: This is not the right approach [to ban reading through forums by visitors who are not subscribed or by members who are not logged in] and does *not* solve the email harvesting problem. One of the solutions would be in my opinion [probably by Invision Board owners/developers MSFN purchased the forum software from] to encrypt all email addresses and possibly all email body messages, especially the email headers. This way in the future spammers won't be able to harvest emails/headers/etc anymore. Forcing occasional visitors to subscribe just to read postings is the wrong thing to do. Most free forums [similar in scope with MSFN] do not do this, they allow visitors to browse freely through all their public topics. Sure, some restrictions need to be set in place to promote/increase subscription, attract new members, respect privacy and save server bandwidth, like anti-leech not-logged-in-member/visitor scripts for viewing pics/avatars, downloading attachments/member-only-files etc. This change will probably result in bad publicity, reduced membership over time, and eventually decrease MSFN popularity among existing members, because a lot of people [like myself = this is the *only* forum I trust to post my projects, frequent and participate actively into since 2004, because I believe it is the *best* support software forum on the internet] found out about and liked MSFN only because they were allowed to read freely without having to subscribe. Subscription should be the [potential] future member's choice, not forced by forum restrictions. Please correct me if I'm wrong... I thought MSFN was meant to be a *public* forum for everybody to find answers to their computing problems and exchange opinions freely. Best wishes, MDGx
